So where do we draft?

Discussion in 'Miami Dolphins Forum' started by Samphin, Dec 30, 2012.

Season is over and we have a few more months of hating the new logo before it is officially unveiled. So we finish 7-9 and in second place in the AFC East. We seem to have settled on a QB going I to next year and pretty much agree he has zero weapons. So my question is, where are we in the draft order, and who do we target?

Its official #12..in 1st round (rotate with SD, TB, CAR, and NO with 7 wins and 9 losses each)....which means as low as 15th and as high as 11th.

Kansas City left nothing to chance as the Chiefs lost 38-3 in Denver to wrap up the #1 pick at the 2013 draft. Jacksonville also lost in Tennessee and will have the second selection this coming April, while Oakland which lost in San Diego will pick third followed by Philadephia at #4 and Detroit at #5, Cleveland at #6, Arizona at #7, Buffalo at #8, the Jets at #9, Tennessee at #10, San Diego at #11, Miami at #12, Tampa Bay at #13, Carolina at #14, New Orleans at #15, St. Louis at #16, Pittsburgh at #17, the loser of tonight's Dallas-Washington at #18, the Giants at #19 and Chicago at #20.

TB, CAR, and PIT winning helped us move up 3 spots for sure as the week began.

Go Werner then either Bailey, Austin, or Allen with our next pick.

I hope that happens in FA with WR and TE signing.....draft sets up for other D-side needs (DE, LB, CB, S) that way and additional WR or TE depth tacked as it shakes out.

11th is lowest pick, and 16th is highest for our picks based on teams tied with 7 wins on season. SD, MIA, TB, CAR, NO, and STL

Chargers also have 7 wins on the season... and St.L is 7-8-1... better than us.

Ahhh, good catch, yes, thats true, so as low as 16th then, and as high as 11th in a given round.

There are only 10 teams with worse records than us... not 11.

    Buffalo Bills
    New York Jets
    Tennessee Titans
    Arizona Cardinals
    Cleveland Browns
    Detroit Lions
    Oakland Raiders
    Philadelphia Eagles
    Jacksonville Jaguars
    Kansas City Chiefs

I think NFL only cares about # of wins to decide how many teams rotate for draft reasons, and from a draft rotation the tie doesnt help (or hurt) them in that regard

Exactly, 11th to 16th is the rotation for all teams with 7 wins (SD, MIA, TB, CAR, NO, and STL) i.e. picks #11 -#16

It also means we pick 11th in the second round as it rotates up (not down)... but then in the third round we're down to 15th

    Dion Jordan
    Damontre Moore
    Johnathan Banks
    Phillip Thomas
    Barkevious Mingo
    Ezekial Ansah
    Alex Ogletree
    Tyler Eifert

With their first 2nd they should target:
    Stedman Bailey
    Justin Hunter
    Keenan Allen
    Terrance Willians
    Tavon Austin
    Deandre Hopkins
    Cordarrelle Patterson

Its the winning percentage, not the amount of wins. Like someone said, St. Louis also has 7 wins but also has one tie. 7-8-1 is a better winning percentage then 7-9

Ok, cool...hope thats the case as far as win % and not just # of wins for who rotates. dropping only to 15th is better than 16th in a given round so hope so.

Draft the best WR available. Whether it be Keenan Allen, DeAndre Hopkins, Justin Hunter, Terrence Williams etc. Just use the first pick to draft a stud WR that will make an immediate impact on our offense. Tannehill needs weapons.

Jeffy's idea is yet another OLineman from somewhere in the Big Ten.

Hey don't laugh, he's an offensive player......

    Sure
I personally dont know who Warner's PR man is but the guy is a genius. IMO one of the most overrated guys in the draft. I just dont like him
Mingo is another guy that is way over hyped… every time I see him play I wonder what the fuss is
**** someone is going to take those guys in the 1st round and they are going to regret it.

Ogletree is actually the best football player of the group… just dont want to spend the 12th pick of the draft on a guy with a drug history. 12 is way too high for him.

Chance Warmack anyone? I know Ireland is not going to do but… I personally wouldnt mind trading down about 10 picks and pick up another 2nd rounder in the process. Take a couple WR's in the 2nd and a TE. Could go something like

    1. Warmack
    2a. S Bailey
    2b. Z Ertz
    2c. M Wheaton
    3a. Sean Porter OLB
    3b. Brennan Williams OT

I don't know how the seeding works, but this isn't right. Winning 7 out of 16 games gives you the same winning percentage as winning 7 out of 16 games. The classification of non-wins does not affect winning percentage.

I like to see us draft Mathews the OT out of Texas AM or see us grab Milliner the CB for the Tide if he falls down to #12.

It's semantics, but yes. The NFL used to exclude ties from winning percentage but now ties count as half a win. So in this case I was mostly wrong.

Trade my 2nd 2nd/or 1st 2nd, and my 2nd 3rd, to move back in first..

    1) Dion Jordan

    1) Tyler Eiffert

    2) Robert woods/Tavon Austin/ Stedman Bailey

    3) Step Taylor/ Montee Ball.
