Should we go after Denard Robinson, or Tyrann Mathieu in the later rounds? Seems like there would be some value there with their speed.
I'd take Mathieu in the 4th round and not give anyone else a shot at him. He concerns me a little less than other red flags b/c of how much he seems to love to play the game and the amount of passion, fire, and competitiveness he plays with. I'd use this draft to snag all 3 first round caliber guys that we'd otherwise not have a shot after. Mathieu, Lattimore in the 3rd, and Carradine with 2b or our other 3rd.
Thanks for the input, Noles. IDK, I think Tank might possibly have more NFL potential while Werner looked the more impressive in college.
Vance McDonald, TE, Rice. Good hands, great blocker. Would be a nice safety blanket. Better alternative to Clay.
Mathieu and Lattimore in 4/5 sounds really sweet. Thatd be killer actually. Getting two eventual studs in the mid rounds like that....or at least should be studs. I have no doubt about Lattimore, that kid is a beast with great character. Mathieu is a little less certain but the ability is there if he pulls his head from his butt. Mix that in with Hopkins/Williams/Bailey/Allen or Cordarrelle Patterson in round 1 or 2 and Da'Rick Rogers later on and bamwe have ourselves a killer draft class.
Heck yes, sir. Even Clemson fans respect Lattimore. lol. I wouldn't mind taking advantage of Tank Carradine's injury as well and pick him up later than he would've originally gone. This is starting to seem like a draft that might be better to trade back in ya know. At least that would prevent any excuses for passing on a receiver. Bailey AND Hopkins would be a sweet way to start a draft..... and still have 2 more 2nds to look forward to after trading back. What do you think about a cornerback trio of Xavier Rhodes, Sean Smith, and Mathieu?
I think I might use Mathieu a bit differently then as a straight CB. I was thinking about putting him as a FS like the NYG do with Antrel Rolle where he can essentially play the role of CB on a few plays throughout the course of a game but plays mostly FS. Rhodes intrigues me but I think Id rather go the FA route for a CB (DRC) and maybe use a late 2 on some like a Desmond Trufant (Marcus Trufants brother) or Jamar Taylor. It depends what we do with WR in FA imo. If we sign Wallace then I think moving back a few picks and grabbing Hopkins or Williams in round one. Or we can use that 1 on a pass rusher at 12 and then grab one from Hopkins/Bailey/Patterson in round 2 and Da'Rick Rogers in round 3 or 4. Rogers is a 1st round caliber talent if he can get it together and if you have to give him the Dez treatment you may walk away with a hell of a steal. Personally I think his attitude is more Mike Williams then Dez Bryant but his talent is more Bryant then Williams. Worth a gamble imo.
Mathieu could be a dominant return man. I'd draft him in the 4th round for that alone. I'd like to draft Denard Robinson as well. I think he might make a very nice slot receiver.
This last bowl game with Virginia Tech and Rutgers was the first time I looked at Marcus Davis and saw real potential in him. He really tightened up his game a whole lot in the bowl game and I think especially he tightened up his game after Deadspin put out a scathing video entitled "Marcus Davis doesn't feel like blocking. Ever." I watched him block in the bowl game and he was not only getting after it but using that hulking size and strength of his to great affect. Either he's one of those guys who is going to get lazy on you until he gets into a contract year and then he performs through the roof, or maybe, just maybe...the light bulb turned on. This is the potential that Marcus Davis gives you which is very Josh Gordon-like. What's most intriguing to me since I like to calibrate speed on tape rather than on the 40 yard dash, where possible, is how from the moment he breaks the tackle attempt of Lafayette Pitts (4.54), between Jarred Holley (4.53), Jason Hendricks (4.62) and Jamahl Pardner (4.54) there isn't a single guy on that field that is actually running even the same speed as Marcus Davis. It tells me that estimates of Marcus Davis' speed are actually accurate, and that he's actually able to translate it onto the field in advantageous situations. First play of the following short clip from 2011 going up against Chase Minnifield, it's really just not a very smoothly run route at all and Minnifield is doing a good job being physical with him but in the end you can see that when Marcus Davis puts on the burst on the 2nd part of his route, Minnifield (4.63 at his pro day) is flat out scared he's going to run away from him, and he interferes with him. And still gives up the catch. On the other hand, way too often this year there was a certain...Roberto Wallace-esque feel to his game. The most interesting thing that he did in the Bowl game that had me thinking he may be more than a Roberto Wallace is the way he attacked the ball in the air and snatched it with his hands. There was a sidelines catch (or actually I think it was a no-catch because Logan Thomas threw it too far out of bounds) that comes to mind, and there was a really underthrown ball against the blitz that comes to mind. Put that together with his renewed blocking efforts in the wake of that video, his ability to scare the piss out of anyone that doesn't run solidly in the 4.4's, and maybe you do have something after all. He's like 6'4" and 230+ lbs. And again here, the way he's able to physically muscle for catches like these when you combine it with his fantastic size/speed combo...again, intriguing, but frustrating. Here is another play that he very nearly made in last year's bowl game against Michigan's Blake Countess (4.55) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=43oii8z7f78#t=206s And another instance of being interfered with in the same game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=43oii8z7f78#t=666s And this is on the same drive, where Virginia Tech had managed to score a touchdown in the 4th quarter with 10 minutes remaining to potentially tie the ball game if they can hit this 2 point conversion. Just looking at what Marcus Davis does in the end zone here...it's hard not to be intrigued. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=43oii8z7f78#t=702s Same game, same quarter, now down 20-17 with 3 minutes left and needing to march down the field for a score. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=43oii8z7f78#t=768s Same situation, now at the opposing 31 yard line, deep attempt in end zone to Marcus Davis. Ball looked late to me. He had a step but he lost it because of the timing and couldn't haul in the challenged catch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=43oii8z7f78#t=811s This year against Georgia Tech... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=43s Gets open on the slant in the end zone here but Logan Thomas throws the TD over the middle instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=182s High snatch above his head on the slant against Georgia Tech... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=298s Quick catch, turn around and run off the slant. Starts off with three defenders triangled on him as he catches, but breaks the contact, burns one guy in the open field and tries to extend as much as he can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=650s When he does so much good and impressive work in a game and in a season, you wonder how you can come away watching games of his and seeing every snap and thinking man this guy does more bad than good. That's actually how I viewed this GT game of his when I watched the game itself, Marcus Davis overrated but Corey Fuller underrated. But I guess that kind of reminds me of how people felt about Dez Bryant before he went all H.A.M. this year. He's catching for like 150 yards in a game and people are like "He did more bad than good". Same with Brandon Marshall. Maybe sometimes we focus on the wrong things. Marcus Davis reminds me of that conversation that Brian Gaine had with Roberto Wallace on Hard Knocks. "You need to decide what's keeping you from being among the very best in the game, because there aren't very many people on earth that can do what you do." And here's some work by Corey Fuller in that same game. I also like Fuller as a late round guy, extremely fast, has pretty good length too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=123s http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=417s http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=602s http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=751s http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kNy17eG1j70#t=762s
could posters put a list up of guys who they like for pass rushers and corners from round 3-6 i dont get to see alot of college games living in europe [time difference] be good to see a list of possible mid-late round steals!
I'll throw a couple of WR names into the hat, Marquise Goodwin and Jheranie Boyd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOdsTm_dj2M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJECAmC4mlk Add RB Knile Davis to the list if he falls ps How did I become a "Parcell's guy"?
The thing about Knile Davis which you may already know, is his chronic fumblitis. It's been bad. And you're not going to like who Marquise Goodman reminds me of, lol.
Such a ridiculous PC society we live in that you can't even chill outside a married chick's window and masturbate while watching her sleep anymore. ****ed up.
Ok I'll bite, who does he remind you of? Off the bat due to size, build, speed and track background my first thought is Jacoby Ford.
No, Ford would be a good comparison as he's a legit NFL receiver. Jacoby's problem has been staying healthy.
As an lsu fan, mathieu is a baller. Just makes plays. All over the place. He could be an amazing nickel in the NFL. He would singlehandedly improve our pass d just cause he's streets ahead of Wilson. Provided he stops ****ing up.
I thought you might say that because of the way that you posed the comment, but I don't see it- granted I've seen very little of Goodwin, but Ginn is built like a waif compared to Goodwin and I've never seen a sign of physical play in Ginn (pro or college) anywhere near what Goodwin has shown. Case in point, look at him destroy this UCLA player here, very anti-Ginn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkNSSV1NukM Various bits and pieces here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOdsTm_dj2M My opinion counts for very little because I just don't know much about Goodwin, but besides the two players being very fast I don't get the comparison.
Why do people get so uptight when you creep into their dorm room, at a college you don't attend, and go through all their panties, then when they startle you as you're enjoying their panties on your face you sprint to the window and dive through it into the bushes. Inhospitable Prudes.
