    Well...

I have to think this is true....and...is pretty damned smart on Ross's part.

Look...the Phins are about to have what "could" be a franchise defining offseason. Ross is probably just thinking...."am I completely sure....Ireland is the man for this. Or...with this kind of ammo...should I go out and get some one else"

Bill Gates was a savant when it came to computer programming. His solution to Combinatorics while at Harvard was unprecedented. Paul Allen was the marketing master for Microsoft and surprisingly the geek was the face.

Other that that I agree with everything you posted. You don't get to the top without crossing a few lines. It's nice to know Ross isn't content with 3 losing seasons in a row.

Or even four losing seasons in a row .

He is not afraid of PR messes. Although he would rather they not happen. Any publicity is good publicity.

He's definitely a top shelf programmer, or at least was. However, that programming savvy did him no good until he bought the rights to DOS and sold it as a product to IBM. But the real Microsoft empire didn't take hold until Windows 95 and Office. Gates got rich convincing people that they needed what he was selling. So while his talent was in programming—and programming is knowing how to build a product, not what the product should be—his money came from sales.

Never saw a problem with it. I just think he did not realize the circus act would be following his every move. I have several times left a warm body in place while searching for the replacement. In fact, I think it is a pretty standard business practice.
Rule 1: At least two people should know the same job.
Rule 2: Everyone can be replaced.
Rule 3: Ensure production does not suffer with the loss of any one person.

I live by that in business.

Armando Salguero just tweeted that the team told him this rumor is false.

Of course the team wouldn't confirm this with a GM in place.

I think its highly likely Ross met with them, I think its speculation it was about filling the GM spot.

With this organization, I don't doubt the slightest thing. If someone tweeted that Ross was looking into bringing in someone who practices Santeria to try and change the teams luck, I wouldn't put it past him.

And was quickly reminded by one of his followers that when the Vontae Davis rumor first broke a number of days before the trade, the team came to Armando and said those rumors were false as well. Oops.

    One of many.

This. I don't believe for a minute that this meeting was for a soon-to-be-vacant GM job. But I do think it's good that Ross is talking to people not named Peterson or Ireland.

what makes keeping Ireland an even tougher pill to swallow is the thought that had we fired him Miami would probably be the desired choice for most of these front office guys looking to run their own team. with all the draft picks we have, the cap space, the young promising QB, an owner with deep pockets, working/living in South Florida....when you examine all the available openings there's no way we wouldn't be more enticing to a Marc Ross/Polian/Dorsey/Heckert/Gamble/Caldwell/Steve Keim etc than Jacksonville, Arizona, the Jets and their terrible QB/cap situation, Cleveland...San Diego might be just as good of an opening but ultimately we have all the resources needed to really accelerate this rebuilding process and put a winner out on the field right away.

    ahhh what coulda been...

i'm really neutral on the ireland front, if he gets fired or stays so be it, my question is, if he indeed gets the axe, the new GM that is hired, will he have enough time to evaluate this team , to make good moves come draft and free agency time ?

Maybe Ross is actually looking to hire him to oversee the Pro Scouting Dept, to improve last season's ofer Free Agency...

Every team has 8-10 college scouts of their own, other than maybe the Bengals. Miami has 8 of their own college scouts, 3 pro scouts and 2 scouting assistants, and I really doubt that is unique.

Well if they do get someone that bombs WORSE than Ireland, at least Ireland is gone, and that person will be gone too, and again the possibility of someone that knows what they are doing will come in. If Ireland stays it will continue to be more of the same - 7-9, 6-10, 5-11 - the cycle will just be continuing and the fanbase will continue to live in a perpetual Ground Hog Day.

actually I think this is the most probable scenario, given the state of the team. Ross is looking for help. That last game was scary for the owner, because it seemed to expose the team & it's weaknesses in glaring fashion.

I know I kid a lot about Ross being clueless, which I think he really is a bit naïve, but if he really as done this, it does give me hope that we do have a future, and that Ross does at least understand he can't stand pat, and that something has to be done to turn this thing around.

This bit of news actually sounds exciting.

That didn't stop Parcells, remember he consulted with Johnson in NY about Ryan and then SF about 6 months before he left us, and still on the Miami payroll.

All the more reasons to hate that pile of cow dung.

    I'm 100 % with this post.

I do not hate Ireland the man (I do make fun of him a bit though - just poking fun) but I do hate Ireland the GM. I just think we can do better - MUCH better. Going 7-9 every year gets old and this is the 3rd time in 4 years, and 6 out of 7 years with losing records. Something has to change.

And they have all those Washington draft picks.

The Rams could be scary good very soon.

That could be huge, and could be bad news for Ireland. He'd best hit home runs on some picks and free agents or Ross could be setting him up for the hammer.

I also find it karmic that Ross looks like he is going behind Ireland, just like Ireland did to Sparano....how ironic is that ?

Yep if true, and this is what is happening, my days of calling Ross "clueless" are over.

My faith is being restored that this organization might be finally coming out of it's "Dark Ages", and into a true "Renaissance".

The way the public would react to this and the Sparano debacle could influence this. The Sparano incident was considered insulting to Sparano because in many people's minds, Sparano didn't deserve to be treated that way - Sparano was a likeable guy to many people.

Ireland on the other hand, is generally seen as not a very likeable person, and frankly does not do much to try to change that opinion. Ross doing this to him will seen as karma (for Ireland's participation in the Sparano incident).

How many heads here would explode if Ross had a press conference saying he met with Giddings and the man said Ireland is doing a good job and has the team going in the right direction?
