Well Ireland thought it was okay to not replace Marshall.

We need to keep Fasano (solid TE w/ good blocking and pass catching skills) and bring in another TE as our #1...Finley or Keller w/ fasano would be a good mix. Groom Egnew and perhaps Clay to replace Fasano at some point....but keep fFasano on the roster now and quit going backwards IMHO. We need to keep the decent talent we have and start building...not going backwards by letting them walk.

I think Miami clearly wants to spread things out more, and they want a flex tight end that can split out wide. They thought that is what Michael Egnew would be with the wide receiver ability he showed at Missouri. Unfortunately, he has not shown that in the NFL yet.

I'd like to see the numbers on how many times Jermichael Finely was split out wide in Green Bay when Joe Philbin was the offensive coordinator.

If you click the link all it says is that his re-signing will not be prioritized which should come at no surprise knowing all our other free agents. It does not say he will not return, the title of the thread is misleading

This is a good example of why its unfair to say Irleand has had 5 years to develop this team and has failed. When he traded a 4th round pick for Fasano and Ayodele it was a steal as Fasano was a perfect fit for the old regime's ground and pound offense and Ayodele added some depth. But Fasano doesn't fit with the current's coaching staffs philosphy and you can't just replace him overnight.

Personally, I think we're going to see a number of free agents, quite possibly Fasano among them, that the Dolphins might want to have back but will be allowed to test the free agent waters. If the Dolphins feel like making a competitive offer and the player would truly like to stay in Miami, then you might see something get done. If not, they will be allowed to leave. Right now, the only free agent I see Ireland really making a priority to re-sign is Brian Hartline. Randy Starks, Jake Long and maybe Sean Smith would be on the next level, although if they continue to be far apart in negotiations with Sean I could see them letting him get a true idea of his value on the market first. Same with Jake. Depending on how much progress they feel Chris Clemons has made and how much more of a ceiling they think he has, he might make it on the priority list also.

I clicked on the more player news and filtered it to the Dolphins. Some interesting nuggets in there:

    1) Sean Smith is seeking a Jason McCourty-like deal; Miami is far apart in valuing him (as they should be IMO, though this is just creating a hole) and Smith should get to test the free agent market.

    2) Reggie Bush and Brian Hartline both interested in re-signing with the Dolphins.

    3) Joe Philbin called Josh Kaddu (he of all 11 defensive snaps in 2012) one of the players he's looking forward to seeing develop for 2013.

    4) No mention of Randy Starks...

Don't worry, we have Michael Egnew instead of Dwayne Allen!

Or, even worse, taking Misi instead of Gronkowski.

Starks is gone. Odrick kicks inside and we draft a defensive end early and sign a good veteran.

Sean Smith should get the deal he is looking for (since he's looking for #2 corner money).

Brian Hartline can sign whenever he wants, unless he is looking for $7 million a year. If that is the case we use his money and upgrade the position.

Reggie Bush is the same. He is going to split carries with Lamar Miller anyway. Paying big money is dumb.

I have no comment on a guy (Josh Kaddu) who I saw as often as Bigfoot.

I agree with you CK to one extent...

He was used mostly as a blocker to help the OL before they got to the RZ...

Disagree. He can be replaced. You only reserve that quote for very good players. We can afford to lose him imo.

I think it would be a mistake to let Fasano go, he's a complete tight end who's very tough..find him a mate to play with.

Honestly for what Fasano makes I can't see why can't be signed as the #2 guy. He's a great blocking TE who can catch TD passes. Quite frankly that's a perfect #2.

Odrick moving inside at least uses resources wisely. Kheeston Randall along with McDaniel if he stays is enough depth and Ireland is good at finding DTs if they want another guy (perhaps a pure pass rushing DT).

He was barely above Paul Soliai, who received this comment from her:
    Here was Fasano's:
I should ask her which FA TE's are best looking. Send the memo to Ireland.

Fasano is a really good #2 TE. I wish we could upgrade #1 and keep him as a #2 TE.
