I wouldn't draft him because we have bigger needs than guard. No I wouldn't write off any player due to "OH MAN IN THE FUTURE WE WONT KEEP HIM". But it is Ireland and he can't hit on a OL passed round 1. Jury still out on Martin he got ABUSED on Sunday.
I appreciate the response, and I understand how the salary cap works. Since you like referring to logic, can you please tell me your logic behind having no issue with paying 2 interior linemen $100 million combined. Can you also please tell me why you're basing the salary cap as if every year we'll have the freedom to dish out a hefty signing bonus to a guard. How did that work out for the Saints with Nicks & Evans? And what about Martin? He could conceivably develop into a $35+ million contract guy. You're now up to $135+ million on Oline and we haven't even gotten to RT & RG. 3. 4 years is NOT too far to plan when a billion dollar organization is in your hands. I'm sorry but you don't draft a guard at 12 under the notion he might turn out to be Justin Smith. That's just foolish WADR. If you take a guard at 12 it's with the expectation he becomes the best in the game. So if you're drafting him to be the best at his position, you better be prepared to pay him like the best at his position. Period. If you're uncertain about making Warmack the highest paid at his position after having already made Pouncey the highest paid center, then you don't draft the guard. You draft someone else at a position you wouldn't mind resigning for a big contract.
Is Manziel a legitimate prospect? I thought he was one of those college QBs who kills it in college ball but wasn't really a legitimate NFL prospect.
I saw Bridgewater throw a laser between two or three defenders, maybe a twenty yard throw on a rope before the receiver even cut,and it was nearly a perfect pass. I don't know much about this guy, but that pass and a few others in the Sugar Bowl against UF got my attention. BTW I love watching Johnny Football play, especially that game against Alabama. As a pro prospect, for some reason he looks smaller to me that his listed 6-1, 200 lbs. He looks like he has small hands as well. I'd hate to bet against this guy, but as a pro prospect those would be concerns of mine.
Oh hell yeah he's a legitimate prospect. NFL arm, accuracy down the field. Has it all. I'd like to see him set his feet a little more when he goes down the field but the accuracy is so good that it's almost not an issue. Whether he would declare is another thing. Be interesting to see what happens if Joeckel and Matthews declare and how he transitions. But that said, they have some great talent at back up tackle, so it should be fine.
Clowney is so damn good. He is unblockable when you watch him play. He is one of the few defensive players that when he is on the field I actually pay more attention to what he does compared to what the offense does. I'd like to see him work on his tackling just a little bit, but other than that he is awesome.
Would love me some Jon Cooper. He's probably the only lineman I'd be excited about drafting in the 1st round, namely if it involves trading back. I'd be quite happy if our first pick turned into Cooper + Q Patton (or Carradine, Markus Wheaton)
a lot of mocks have him going to the pats at the end of the 1st round, some also predict tavon austin....nightmare scenario
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Manziel a freshman? If so wouldn't he be in the 2015 draft if he leaves Junior and 2016 if he leaves as a Senior? I am pretty sure he would not be eligible for the 2014 draft.
He is a redshirt freshman, meaning right now he is two season separated from his high school graduation.
Mos def, I'm thinking they will have a strategy to go up as fas as they can afford, and pull that trigger if they can get it, and I think the whole organization, right down to the fans would be all in, and accept the risk by the front office..
Arthur Brown, Cordarelle Patterson, Alec Ogletree, Matt Elam, Luke Joeckel, Manti T'eo, Xavier Rhodes, Zach Ertz, Tank Carradine, DeAndre Hopkins. Beyond that I'm struggling to really go to town on players I really, really like.
Tavon Austin? Stedman Bailey? Khaseem Green? Giovanni Bernard? Star Lotulelei? Sheldon Richardson? Those guys are among the easiest to really like. I won't even bother tacking on my binkies that I know you don't like.
DeAndre Hopkins. Sammy Watkins goes down in like their first play of the bowl game and they lean on Hopkins in the passing game. Hopkins perfoms well in the game and in the final drive they need to get in FG range and Hopkins responds. He does this against Tharold Simon #24, an LSU CB who is regarded as a 2-3 round junior and makes the CB look embarrassing.
I think Lacey showed he is the best back in this class at 100%. I think he could sneak in late first.
Your on board with Rhodes? I am haven't been a huge fan of him. I think he plays too physical at times and seems like he could get killed in the NFL with the tic-tac penalties they call. Glad you love Hopkins too. I want him on this team no matter what it takes.
No way. He doesn't have the long speed needed to be drafted in the first. I like Lacey, but his is a mid-2nd to end of the 3rd round player in my eyes. He ran behind a better line at Alabama than he probably will run behind in the NFL.
I could see if, but I don't think we would take him before our last 3rd round pick. I see him a player that could be what the team wanted Daniel Thomas to be..
Lacy is also running behind the best offensive line in the nation which included multiple first round picks.
Another thing on Lacey is it me or did he just have some top tier burst against ND? He seems perfect in a 1 cut system with his size.
Kirk Herbstreit agrees with you. He made mention that since he has come back from all these nagging injuries that he's had all year (just in time for the BCS Chip), he's looked like a totally different player. He runs behind a great offensive line, we all know this, but he is pretty nimble for a guy his size.
Dri Archer is a joy to watch in case anyone hasn't seen him. A near Tavon Austin clone but with poorer hands and less experience as a receiver.
Anyone else have an opinion on this receiver?
