If anything I'd get rid of Burnett, IMO he's an overrated BUM. Always seems to disappoint me on game day.
i like barnes as well and i would go after him in FA if available , lingering hamstring injuries ended his year early december, ps see the way Maualuga and lawson got abused in the passing game against the texans
I've heard suggestion that there's drug test fails in his history. Nonetheless he's cheap competence as a speed rusher on obvious pass downs.
Absolutely. Trade or cut Dansby and re-sign Long. Always go with the young over the old. I'd call Crowder too.
Honestly he's the kind of player that really good teams with a long track record of contending (Pats, Steelers, Ravens, etc) move along from when they get into their early 30s......
I agree, if we cut him. We get more cap saving this year. But will pay later on for it. He only got 2 more year's left on his deal. [bite the bullet, it's not like he is playing terrible]
So, out of curiosity, what exactly do we consider a game changing play for a MLB? I mean, he's certainly not had a ton of pick sixes. I seem to remember a much different Karlos Dansby than you guys, though. I mean, this is THE DUDE that makes us the #1 red zone defense. Remember 2011, when he stuffed AP on THREE CONSECUTIVE DOWNS for no gain, from 1st and goal at our 2? Next play was a 49 yard ronnie brown scamper that should have been a touchdown, but of course Ronnie always got caught from behind. This year, he stuffed the **** out of the running back more times than I can count. When it's important to stop the run, with 3rd and a yard to go, I can't think of many MLBs I'd rather have. He also had the highest # of pass defenses in his career this year, more than twice what he did the year before.
If only we had a long track record of contending, and could continually get young free agents for cheap/lots of draft picks. Unfortunately, we have a reputation as a lower echelon franchise at this point and time, and it's only going to get worse if we jettison the heart of this defense. What's next? Cut Cam Wake?
Dansby is maybe the best ILB in the AFC east, plus he is a leader on the field. Hard to argue with 407PhinFan views.
Dansby isnt worth his cap number, and its nice to reference the AP goalline play but fact is he needs to do more. And stuffing the rb this year?? It mustve been when i was already drunk because i dony recall all these great plays at all.
Other than Ray Lewis til the last couple of seasons, Dansby is better than any ILB/MLB on those 3 teams IMO. The Steelers aren't really a good example anyway. They kept Farrior well into his 30s. They brought back Foote as a starter and he's older than Dansby. Dansby is just an example of the nature of free agency. Every teams seems to have a few players who make a little more than they appear to be worth, and at least as many players making less than their apparent worth. I know one thing, when it comes to Dansby, if I were in charge he would be staying without a doubt. We have enough holes to fill without making another, and his eventual replacement is definitely not currently on the roster. Also, his cap hit drops by 3mil in 2013, compared to 2012.
Mr Kevin Burnett? My Gawd man. If he is disappointing you on game day, may I suggest watching the games totally sober, and perhaps a visit to your local optometrist before next season? Signing KB is one of the best free agent moves that Ireland has made in his tenure as GM. KB is the antithesis of overrated and the antithesis of BUM.
That's a matter of opinion. As a pass rusher, maybe, but he also gets used in that role a great deal more,
Also for the first time in his career, is dedicating himself in the weight room, he's been recently inspired, and has seen the affects, he plans to train hard this offseason.
I've honestly been impressed with Burnett. Didn't make many mistakes and I noticed him for good moreso than bad.
Exactly how many holes is too many holes? Granted we have a lot of draft picks and have plenty of cap room but when is it apparent that we are creating more holes than we are able to fill?
The number of holes to fill??? I'm not sure a team can really have an inordinate number when they already have what they consider a "franchise QB" and an elite pass rusher. I mean the team has ~$45M in cap space available. If they get rid of Dansby, then its about $50M. That is a lot of money to work with. Certainly not every hole can be filled, but those are a lot of resources to fill holes with.
Either we have confidence in our Front Office or not. Pete Carroll performed over 200 transactions his first year. His 3rd year he has a winner (yes I know he's had some pieces in place but Ireland's been here 5 years). New Orleans also performed a massive turnover of their roster when the new FO took over. Either we believe Ireland can do it ... or not. He's here, so here's to hoping he does.
Only way I cut Dansby is if I've already signed a new MLB or got one in the draft I didn't expect to drop to me. I'd wait till next if possible but using the bpa is sitting there with either of our 2nd is a stud MLB I might take him and dump Dansby.
100%. Dansby and Burnett aren't flashy but they are damn good. Versatile, consistent, 3 down LBs who can bring the wood and cover well. How quick people forget the days of Crowder and Ayodele getting abused weekly.
Yup. Dansby and Burnett are HOFers compared to Crowder and Ayodele. Having LBs who can stuff the run, but not hurt you in pass coverage is a nice asset to have. Who can forget Crowder futilely chasing Dustin Keller on a shallow crosser, seemingly yelling "wait up for me" ? Considering also Dansby's cap hit dropping next year, I question the sanity of anyone suggesting we cut him. Not unless his replacement is already on the roster, such as if we drafted Manti Te'o. Even so, it maybe better to wait till after the 2013 season.
I think we are looking at the 2014 Season for this cut. Not this year, he is to integral to the team...
