LOL, you're right. I was just listening to one of his CDs on Spotify the other day and looks like I channeled it.
Yes. I would imagine it would be on zone over the top of man coverage as well as it would be direct coverage.
He lacks the instincts at the position that you seek, in my opinion. Unfortunately, he's pretty much played this way his entire career; you can go back and look at his days in Clemson's Quarters coverage. He doesn't make enough plays because he is nearly always a step late. That's not to say he is a bad player, because he isn't, but if you can upgrade then why not? Having a more rangy safety gives you a tremendous amount of coverage flexibility that you don't get with Clemons.
I know that doesn't reflect what I said. I specifically noted that when watching him in the all-22, I would see the play, be wanting him to react and he wouldn't see it. He would react a beat or two late and end up with the tackle instead of making a play that would get the D off the field. That wasn't what I saw with Jones. He would see the play before I would see it. He would also make errors of course, but he clearly showed he had instincts that Clemons lacked. I'm not saying Clemons is invisible. I'm saying that I could see him not taking advantage of plays that were there to be had.
He managed to make Chris Crocker a respectable veteran and Reggie Nelson, for the most part, disciplined. Beats me.
This is a quite remarkable adherence to the saying, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull****." You also continue your habit of replying to things that are never stated.
he's the best. I just recorded Louis CK: Hilarous (yeah i know it's over 2 years old). Good stuff. The Cinnabun bit (different show) is the greatest thing ever.
Yes, but you can say that about quite a few players on quite a few rosters. If Chris Clemons is the worst player on your unit, you're in pretty good shape. The idea that if you can find someone better, by all means upgrade is something you can apply to all but a handful of guys.
I get what you're saying Disgus, but the bottom line is we all know there's still room for defensive improvement on the scoreboard and in playmaking column, and currently we have an opening at FS, so the question is- will upgrading safety in free agency help take the defense up a notch? Personally, I think it will.
That's true but are all players' positions equally important? I'd wager no. And Chris Clemons is one of the handful of guys you can apply the said idea.
If you look at the final games of Todd Bowles' coaching stint in Miami, when he took over for the incompetent Tony Sparano, he used Jones the right way. He patrolled the underneath, playing as a robber and so forth and he did well. That's what Coyle's done with him as well.
I've supported Clemons to a degree since his arrival, that evaluation was based on who they brought in to compete with him, I thought he was the better player when they did that, so I was good with him..I think you would have to select a safety no less than a third if your gonna try to beat him out, but I'm not against it if the right prospect drops to us, just wouldn't be on my priority list. If Eddie Lacy and a safety are on the board in the 2nd, I'm taking Lacy.
