DJ how do you know the drawings won't improve the 12th man dramatically?

Ask Cleveland or Baltimore, 2 cities where football is far more ingrained into the city's fabric than Miami could ever hope to be.

Ross is over 70 years old. Who knows what could happen to this franchise in the next decade or so.

This is very true, and I am sure Ross has already calculated this.

I wonder if this is a way he is setting things up for an exit ?

He doesn't get his funding and then says I tried and puts them up for sale and the next owner has to worry about it, or he sells the team only and then they move the team and he does something else with the property. However he doesn't own that property (the land) that is only leased. He owns the stadium however. I don't know if the terms of the lease proscribe him from doing other things with the property. But I do know there is a favorable lease agreement for a $ 1 a year lease of 160 acres at the "Lake Lucerne" property which is where the stadium is located.

Are you under the assumption that the concrete will be moved closer? Or just adding the seats?

I think the most disappointing thing about those proposals are that they've still got that godawful Romero Britto **** covering the ramps.

If they took that down I'm sure attendance would go up.

I'm under the impression there will be seats closer all the way around and there will be a cover to help hold in the sound. I feel like you're locked into one way and one way only of improving the energy/noise level instead of being open to the fact that for all we know these changes will create the net affect you're looking for.

It absolutely will make it louder on the field, just by bringing people up from the top deck now to the lower bowl and closer to the field... and then have a canopy to help trap in noise as well.

It isnt a brand new stadium completely redesigned with optimal noise volume... but its definitely an upgrade in that department.

See it's not about adding seats, it's about intimacy in the building, being on top of the players is what creates energy..if their not planning on moving concrete then it is what it is, a better version of what we have...

When Dee was referring to "structures" I'm pretty sure he meant structure of the deal, like who is putting up what money and in what form. He wasn't referring to the structure of the stadium

I hope there is some clarification on what exactly will be happening to the seats. I'm in Row 27. Is my seat moving or not.

That was a separate referendum from the one I'm talking about.

The public of Miami-Dade County actually did vote to allocate money for the Marlins as part of a larger downtown renovation package. The money was set aside by public vote. The Miami-Dade County commission voted on the construction plan to spend that allocated money.

    Finally, the expert arrives.

So what exactly are they doing (or wanting to do) with this place?

yes, definitely an upgrade...but 95 percent of the fans will still be the same distance away from the players, unless their planning on adding concrete...you Know what I'm sayin?

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for any changes, I just want to be clear that I still think they are making a bad investment decision unless it involves building or moving concrete..

My questions is, other than the canopy, what are they doing that is so appealing that will make SunLife once again acceptable for hosting Super Bowls?

Looks like they are just adding seats. But I'm not sure how that makes a difference either way. the fans will be closer regardless.

The mere fact that they are gonna put this project at 400 million...tells me that Ross and Co. intend to steal about 100 million from the tax payers.

We are talking mere, elevation issues, and maybe 15% added material from what is already there. 400 million seems at least 100 million too high, if not more.

More comfortable seats, closer seats, bigger kitchens, and I'm assuming redone luxury suites/boxes/amenities.

So my seat will be wider, but not closer? That's fine with me, but I just wish they were clearer on what they are asking taxpayers to pay for

I'm not sure if you'll be closer. I suppose it depends on how they decide to count the added seats. If you're 27th row, will that include the added rows, or will they be separate? Hard to say at this point.

Better lighting I guess as well, though while I hear this all the time, the lighting looked fine on TV for Bama-ND so not sure. But apparently that's part of it. The canopy is a huge deal too, I guess.

they got to strip the lower deck, then tie it to a new lower deck, while changing it's elevation. Then deconstruct the entire upper deck and rebuild it.

It;s a minor project in the materials (steel, concrete) sense. A MASSIVE project for finishing materials. (seats, aluminum, etc..)

Is it me, or does the canopy itself seem expensive. I seem to remember from the last time they tried this, they said it was a special glass that wouldn't make a green-house effect for the fans.

Interesting point you make though, will keep a close eye on this.

BTW, I love the mockup, and it suggest to me that they are following the design of my favorite NFL stadium. M&T bank stadium (Ravens), who has the best sitelines in football.

But you can;t blame them. Every single time a public funding issue comes up, there is always somebody trying to rip off the public.

The one thing the politicians got right in the Marlins deal, was making the Marlins responsible for any and all cost over runs. With those bastards on the contractors backs day and night, the stadium was build on time and about $ 15 million under budget. Make Ross responsible for any and all cost over runs and see it get done on time and below cost - it will happen.

So Sec, you and I both sit in the lower bowl. Based on what you've seen, and presuming it goes through, in 2015 are we going to be closer to the field or not?

Which is why when Ross eventually sells the team he should do so to someone who is a fan of the team and who would never consider moving the team.

No sir, not close minded at all, noise and energy is created in a stadium thru logistics, and those logistics can be structured to create intimacy, now a canop will close us in a bit, and that could help some, but the worst part of our logistics is distance, and none of this changes that, except some added rows.

will say this..the Demolition of that Upper Deck will be VERY costly, and the permits for that alone could shoot down this project.

I can't disagree with that statement. But, isn't half the stadium an absolute scorcher in the SoFla heat at 1:00 pm since it has no shading - regardless if we are 1-10 or 10-1?

That is where the shades come into play. Just one example of how upgrading facilities will also help with attendance.
