Forget the Tweet. He could Tweet all he wants if he produced. Davis and Smith were poor draft picks. IMO it's clear at this point they have not developed well. Sometimes you just have to admit it and cut bait. Davis is already gone. Move along.
I'd reckon he was watching Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner(who he compares to imo) strictly play man and probably wants Coyle to call plays to his strength, man, instead of his weakness, zone. For everyone saying that he should leave because he can't play zone, no one can play zone effectively on the team...maybe Patterson. No need to get rid of him and add another hole when we can sign him for a reasonable price, draft or acquire another CB(s), and hope he thrives in the second year of Coyle's system.
I bet it was when Sherman broke up a TD pass to Roddy White. Regardless, he shouldn't have said that dumb ****.
I have to admit, I've not seen much of him at all. I've heard he compares to Cortland Finnegan, but has some consistency issues. But, I couldn't give a fair opinion of him. I'm not really a fan of the CB class this year. Milliner, he's a tease. How much of that is his ability and how much of his success is Alabama's scheme? Is there a happy medium? But if he's there, I think you take him. Xavier Rhodes interests me. Jonathan Banks interests me, but is his speed a question in this scheme? Logan Ryan did interest me, but his bowl game soured that a little bit. Justin Gilbert could be a height, weight, speed guy that Ireland likes, but his play really tailed off, and I've not seen if he's declared or not. My darkhorse would be Adrian Bushell of Louisville, but I think Miami already has too many guys who are like him on the roster, or presumably going to be on the roster next year. Tharold Simon could be another numbers guy, but he was called out in that LSU tweet. I'm not sure if he's on par with Patrick Peterson and Morris Claiborne, but he's interesting to me as well.
What he is saying, clearly, is that he could be more effective if he were allowed to play however he wants, and be as bombastic on the field toward opponents as he wants. As to the second part, I'm sure no one really cares how he psychs himself up or what comes out of his mouth, but the first part clearly says that he knows how he should be used better than the coaching staff does. It's insubordinate to a coaching staff that is trying to install a system. there is no other reasonable way to interpret what he tweeted. The only possible answer to a player who is not producing, is not responsive to attempts to coach him in a team scheme, and wants a substantial raise anyway, is "get with the system AND produce if you can, or vote with your feet." What he tweeted is certainly not conducive to getting more money. He may go elsewhere and be very good in a different system, but that doesn't help this team at this time. Maybe someone else can do what he can't.
Tell smith when he plays like Sherman he can talk like Sherman. Smith plays soft, is not a playmaker, and doesn't play smart. Bye bye. He is not a shut down corner
To me, he physically resembles Finnegan and that maybe what they refer to. He is a ballhawk, not afraid to play the run. I like their other corner just as well, but he probably stays in school.
Smith should go rewatch the game against the Colts from this past season. He lost what should've been an easy jump ball INT and let that floater fall through his arms which could've sealed the game...a ball a lot of pee-wee leaguers would've caught. Must've been coach's fault. I think he is a decent CB but the way he talks, you'd think he was a perennial pro bowler.
He's just expressing his opinion on his own time. As long as he does what the coaches want when he is practicing and in games, there is no insubordination or undermining going on. It is much ado about nothing IMO.
I agree. And if he does everything the coaches want and still can't produce, then the question is neither undermining nor insubordination, but whether his particular abilities can fit the scheme.
It says Vonte got traded and Marshall got hurt, and Ireland needs to find some CBs I have to assume Coyle felt better with Smith playing zone than Carroll and Wilson playing press.
if he isn't gonna be resigned Somebody needs to start picking payers with better makeup..another first and third off the team..that would suck man.. if the little glimpses of swagger I've seen thus far in his career is any indicative of what he could bring to the table, I'd say no thanks to that..I've see him celebrate when he had nothing to do with the outcome...like to see him play with a bit more serious demeanor on the field, more humble, jmo.
When Sean Smith is as good as Sherman from Seattle , he can do all the antics and trash talking his little heart desires.
The cap had nothing to do with Troy leaving. Troy is from the Trenton NJ area and was recently on local sports radio. During the interview, FA & the Eagles came up, along with the question of how Troy became an Eagle. Troy said he had a better offer from the Dolphins than the Eagles but they dollar figures were close enough he wanted to be close to where he grew up and had family.
That makes sense. Fans forget these guys are human and sometimes money means little vs going someplace they like. Well maybe money means a lot but you know what I am trying to say.
I don't think there is any chance it happened without his input. There was pretty undeniably dissatisfaction with Davis this off-season, and if it came from anyone it would be Coyle.
He is the best CB on the team. But his attitude is far less than professional. Juvenile. Ed Reed he isn't! Charles Woodson he isn't. We need guys who want to be the best who have intensity and the willingness to be smart and be dedicated every game and every play. Just never have seen that in Smith in spite of his talent. He's improved some since he's been here. But, I don't think a big contract would make him more mature - more like less mature, imo.
Troy was a Transitional Player, which meant Miami had the chance to match. He signed an offer sheet with the Eagles, same as an RFA does these days, and Miami had 7 days to match. Jimmy could have matched and had cap room to match and if he had done so, Troy wouldn't have had a choice.
Mr Clean Why do you have a photo up of my soon to be wife? That women going to be the mother of my children one day. [wink] She is hot, nice sig!
Immaturity has been Smith's downfall. He has the physical tools to be great, but his lack of focus kills him. He's had many opportunities to make game changing plays the last few seasons, and he can't finish. They have to gamble on Smith drastically improving under Coyle's system if they're going to pay him any amount of money.
