I really think I nailed it on the head with my gay theory. I mean when you think about it the whole story doesn't make sense; he supposedly met with his girlfriend in Hawaii and yet he got Catfished? You can't get catfished after previously meeting the "girl." I have nothing against him if he is gay either, BUT the NFL on the other hand could be another story. I don't really know of any openly gay NFL players and it could really hurt his draft stock, reputation, and how his teammates view him if he does admit it; which is why he is sticking with his weird *** version of the story.
What about in sports? The NFL isn't a Tel-Americorp (the place where workaholic's work... aka a typical desk job).
don't know too much about manti te'o, but so far it seems to me he was in on this "hoax" or whatever you want to call it,, and he's an idiot.
not in sports it's not.... nor religion.... and sports & religion are involved with both parties (Te'o AND Tuiasosopo). It's an ideal set of circumstances that would lead to a concealment.
Bizarre story. If he is gay, I'm not sure how it affects his draft stock. A team drafting and embracing a gay player would be a goldmine for an organization.
This really is fascinating. I mean, we have a top prospect here and a story seriously undermining his character, all with the draft right around the corner. I am genuinely excited to see how it affects his draft stock.
Maybe for San Fran.... I keed, I keed. I think it would be a great publicity stunt, BUT I honestly think it would wreck havoc inside a locker room. The Torii Hunter thread in the POFO forum explains why.
Depends on the team. I think only a minority of players would care. If the team had strong leadership, I think everyone would fall in line. Gay people are being accepted in society at an exponential rate, even more so by black people. Its only a matter of time before this isn't even an issue.
The only way this story can get crazier is if Tuiasosopo meet Te'o's friends and family Ms Doubtfire style. I mean com'on! This story is just insane.
On one side you have Te'o, a prominent football player from a prominent Catholic school. On the other side you have Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, a kid who loves dancing, singing, and acting who, for some odd reason, chose not to pursue football after high school and who comes from a prominent football family and has a pastor for a father. If this doesn't represent the perfect storm for concealing a gay relationship then I don't know what would.
If he is gay that not only explains the story but turns him around from looking like a compete lunatic to a sympathetic figure. If that's true then I hope he comes out. Somebody has to be the first and I guarantee he isn't alone in the NFL. Statistically there has to be at least a dozen or so gay guys in the league, maybe more
You only have to look at how marriage equality is now acceptable to a small majority in this country and within a generation it will be legal nationwide. Somebody has to be the first to be out while playing. Once that guy goes through it it won't be an issue anymore
I sure hope so, but not sure I see it happening in every state by the time I am 50 Then again I am a glass half empty kind of guy.
Supreme Court will eventually have to step in. At some point a couple legally married in Mass or Vermont will move to Florida or Georgia and demand that the state recognize the marriage under the full faith and credit clause, making it a federal issue.
I'm guessing "more". I played baseball with a gay kid who didn't come out until college. A lot of things made sense after that, like him running around a hotel room naked during a tournament trip, as well as all the butt pinching and slapping that he seemed to enjoy more than the rest of us.
would be interesting timing, with Jodie Foster's speech the other night. Heck, she hasn't much to lose by this point and STILL had trouble getting it out of her mouth.
I could see a team like the Patriots picking him up in the 4th and he plays HoF football for them. Ugh And if he did this because he's gay, he will get the whole gay community to fight for him, this is a great chance for them to break this barrier, a opportunity they can't pass up.
True, her orientation was also well known within her industry for a long time and is probably the most accepting industry for gay people anywhere. Whether Te'o us or isn't somebody will eventually come out and if he can cut it the first year then he will be fine
this story is bananas. But even with the gay angle why would he kill off his fake gf? Was someone on the verge of discovering what was going on or his parents being too pushy to meet her?
I suppose if you kill of the fake GF it gives you an easy excuse for not dating the rest of your senior year as you're "in mourning". If you just break up most people would wonder why you're not dating or at least getting laid, which should be easy for a star football player at ND
yeah I was thinking the same. he could be in mourning for quite some time, be sympathetic, and most people wouldn't push him.
b/c he spent 3 years building her up and giving her life, so it's only appropriate. Besides, if he's gay he wasn't killing off a fake gf; he was killing off a fictitious character. Big difference IMO. Besides, with the other kid enjoying acting, I'm guessing the more dramatic approach <killing her off> would be a more appropriate ending. Would you expect anything less extreme or less creepy than killing her off after having spent 3 years giving this fake person life? Seems par for the course. After 3 years I'm guessing they would start asking questions, no?
And now there's this http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php...back-reagan-mauia-who-claims-to-have-met-her/ WTF?!?!?????
I don't see how this couldn't affect his draft stock, I wouldn't draft him if I was a GM. Sorry but this story just is so weird and I'm sure its just the tip of the iceberg. I mean lying about your fake GF dying on National TV? Letting it be a lead story in the build up to a Heisman/National Title run and never admitting you were "duped"? I don't believe this kid's story for a second, he was completely dishonest with everyone in the media for self serving purposes. Crazy story, no way this kid is a top draft pick now.
I'd rather be straight and announce to the world I'm gay than essentially admit to being one of the most gullible and naive dumbasses ever to attend college. I still think it's BS that he was "duped". How do you form such a close relationship like that and either not visit her when playing Stanford or USC or her not attend the game and see you afterward, even if it's just running onto the field? I mean c'mon, this is supposedly a girl who tells him, "Babe, if anything happens to me, you promise that you'll stay there and you'll play and you'll honor me through the way you play.".
Perfect for for them too. Not that there's anything wrong with that ( outside of kicking our *** on Sundays )
Is Ronaiah Tuiasosopo related to Marques and Manu Tuiasosopo? He ain't Marques' brother or Manu's son, that much I did find out. Doesn't really matter one way or the other, just curious. If they can accept it in the military, they can just as well accept it in the NFL. As for religion, that's nothing but a bunch of fantasy delusional nonsense anyway IMO. There may not be any out of the closet publicly gay players in the league, but I'd bet most players if speaking anonymously could name several that they strongly suspect are. Dave Meggyesy was a player for the Eagles back in the 1960s and in 1970 he wrote a book, a memoir, about his days in the NFL called Out Of Their League. There were some mentions in the book about gay players back then, who other players knew about but not the public in general. That was not the main focus of the book though. It was more to do with the violence and dehumanizing aspects of pro football.
