Ok this if my first post on your site but I have been following this forum all during the preseason and regular season. As an outsider looking in *Colts fan here)

Before the season begin I had my doubts as to some of the moves that were being made by both your GM and your Coach... seemed to be ALOT of drama behind the scenes not to mention the Hard Knocks show going on at the same time as your training camp.

As a fan of the Colts I was pleased with the trade that happened for Vontae Davis.. Indy was in DESPERATE need of a cornerback and he seemed to be going downhill in a hurry in Miami.. looking back I think the trade was probably good for both Indy and Miami.

The Miami Defense seemed pretty damn solid this year and Tannenhill showed several flashes of brilliance. Hartline seems to be legit but he was also hot or cold.. not sure what caused this though. The running game with Bush seemed to be the real deal as well.

In my opinion your team is only a few positional upgrades from the playoffs and being a regular contender. I would think think that WR has to be your first priority in the draft and Free Agency... if you guys can pick up 1 or 2 good receivers you will be sitting pretty in the 2013 season. Your QB would have had a much easier time if he had some better guys to throw too.. I look for that to happen next season. Your secondary and line need to be looked at as I dont know how much longer you can afford Jake Long, etc. Not sure how you are looking in regards to the salary cap but I would think you should be in pretty good shape in that respect. I am looking forward to the upcoming draft and see how your draft goes.. wondering if you guys pick up a receiver or go with a different position and rely on FA for your receiver. Anway.. overall your team performed much better than many thought they would this past season. Your new Coach has set in an enviroment of no nonsense and discipline which should serve the Dolphins well for years to come. Good Luck in the upcoming draft and Free Agency.

    Thanks for the good wishes.

My guess is that we'll let Long walk unless he drops his asking price. At a minimum I expect he'll test the market. We're in pretty good shape salary cap wise. I expect that we'll pursue Jennings, Wallace or Bowe pretty hard and that we'll get one unless there's some other WR trade. (there rumors about Fitzgerald and Macklin this past season). I think we'll also take a WR in the first 5 picks. (We have five picks in the first three rounds). I also think we'll focus an a seam threat TE in either FA or the draft, maybe both.

As for Davis, he has all the talent in the world, but a ten cent head. He usually comes into camp out of shape and struggles over the first half of the season. Then in the second half, he can look like a probowl talent.

    Thank you.

I think we can contend if we add a few playmakers this offseason. We certainly have the resources to do it.

    Priority-wise I'd say:

    1) WR
    2) Real DE
    3) Safety
    4) CB
    5) TE
    6) OG

If we address even 4 of those with good players, and do not let other players go, we are an 8-10 win team, imo.

Lettuce be cereal for a moment... The 2012 Miami Dolphins' offense was stagnant, inconsistent, putrid, and mind numbingly boring more than it wasn't. Let's not forget the 28-0 shutout that closed the season for us. All offensive positions rank ahead of any defensive positions in terms of priority. Is that even debatable?

If the Dolphins D stayed as it right now, going into next year, we could get 10 wins with it. Assuming of course we could get the offensive playmakers needed to score more than 18 points a game. Otherwise, Ryan Tannehill is looking to have a Sam Bradford type sophomore season and it makes no difference who we have on defense...

seriously every offensive position? Are you serious? Soooooo you take a center before you take a pass rushing DE? You would take a rb before you added a db? I think your nuts

when I say every offensive position, I mean position of need. Bpk wrote down 6 positions of need, I said all the offensive positions come first.

Obviously we shouldn't draft a center over a DE, DB, etc....

    Don't be dense.

I agree. Every off season all we hear is that the team is only a few players away from being a legitimate playoff contender. This may be the case, but unfortunately it is Ireland who is still responsible for having to find these players who will get this team to that level. I just have absolutely no faith in Ireland's ability to draft or sign the right players to make this team a playoff contender next year.

I think Philbin might end up saving Ireland's job. Well, Tannehill actually.

I just don't know how much Ireland will listen to the coaching staff when it comes to drafting players. Fisher turned down the head coaching job because he wanted final say in the players signed in free agency and taken in the college draft. Ross wouldn't agree to this and gave all the power over player personnel decisions to Ireland. I am sure Philbin had to agree with Ireland retaining all this power, or he wouldn't be the Dolphins HC at this time.

Since Ireland became the Dolphins GM five years ago, he has yet to draft a top tier offensive play maker at the running back, TE, or WR position. He traded for Bush and Marshall and they have been the best offensive skilled position players during the past five years. Of course he basically gave Marshall away for nothing after only two years and Bush had one very good year in 2011. Ireland's lack of knowledge when it comes to selecting offensive talent was best shown in the 2012 draft when he took Egnew in the third round and passed on T.Y. Hilton. What makes this so bad is that Egnew appears to be a bust and Hilton looks like a future star in the NFL. Hillton played his college ball right here in Miami and Ireland instead decided to pass on him and take Egnew.

As far as Tannehill goes. I think he could turn out to be a good QB in the NFL, but he is still a big question mark, as far as I am concerned. I didn't see the overall skills at the QB position from him which I saw from Luck, RG3, and Wilson. The feeling is that Tannehill will improve as he gets better players around him on offense. This could be the case, but unfortunately I just don't expect Ireland to select the quality offensive play makers this team needs. He hasn't done it in the last five years. Why should we expect this year to be any different?
