I agree. Im just saying in general. There are plenty of guys around here who say you shouldnt. Thats foolish, IMO.
Just look at the receiving targets all four of the teams playing today have. Falcons: White, Jones, Douglas, Gonzalez Ravens: Smith, Boldin, Jones 49ers: Moss, Crabtree, Davis, Manningham when he's healthy Pats: Welker, Lloyd, Gronk, Hernandez Then there is us: Hartline, Bess, and Fasano. Hell ya
In what way? I'd take both those team's receiving corps over ours everytime. Did you see Boldin and Smith last week?
The Niners might. The Ravens certainly don't Smith and Boldin are way better than any WR on our team could even dream of being. Not to mention they have 2 TE's who are better than Fasano.
No argument against upgrading at WR. But as usual, the better QB in Kaepernick led his team to victory and not the better WR. If great WR led their teams to super bowls then A. Johnson, C. Johnson, L. Fitzgerald, J. Jones, AJ Green would be playing for the Lombardi trophy on a regular basis.
Do you think Miami would be better off today with Jones instead of: Mike Pouncey Daniel Thomas Clyde Gates Ryan Tannehill Lamar Miller
You so thoroughly misunderstand the argument, i can only imagine the reason being your irrational Tannehill hatred from the second he was drafted.
No, this is silly ! Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin are the most dangerous combo in the league, next to White and Jones. And Gonzalez inst much better than Pitta at this point, If at all. Not to mention Rice/Peirce > Turner/Rodgers. The pats are probably paying 3x as much for Welker and Lloyd as the 9ers are for Crabtree and Moss. I'll take the latter, and Vernon Davis over Hernandez..... Gore/James>Ridley/Vareen. Not sure what the point of this question is, or how to even attempt to answer it ! What do they have to do with the statement your responding to...???? which states that it would pay dividends to draft a WR in the 1st round. Obviously we didnt chose any of those players over Julio Jones, or any other WR for that matter.
This is not true in the least when factoring in all pass catchers <WR, TE, and RB>, their playmaking ability, threat to beat you deep, as well as how dynamic both groups are. The Niners & Ravens personnel can beat you all over the field, make the tough catch, and make plays after the catch. Heck, the Niners have enough talent that their 1st round receiver never saw a snap this year.
The Falcons have as many holes as the Dolphins do. I think they'd have been better off keeping all those picks, and getting guys like Randall Cobb, TY Hilton, Davon House, Justin Houston, etc.
Even looking at it on a more granular level, I think Aldon Smith or JJ Watt would be much more valuable to the Falcons than Julio Jones is right now.
Their TE is retiring, and thats another major hole for them now. Thats in addition to a defense that routinely blew big leads, and whose only legitimate pass rusher is on the decline. Who will step up for them without a bunch of picks coming into their second and third seasons? They took a shortcut and that almost never works.
Shortcuts don't always work. But so far neither has Teflon Jeff's long winding road. Aqua just laid out what the 2 teams have done since both basically rebooted at the same time. Advantage: Falcons. However this offseason is going to go a long way in sealing the short term future of the Dolphins.
