Miami has really only been recruiting him hard for the past month or so. He took an official visit and it went great. He is also one of those guys who is good enough to get considerable playing time in his freshman year. The fact that they have the 2 best NJ prospects is really impressive (Kevin Olsen, AQM). Now they need to close the deal on guys like Matthew Thomas, Alex Collins, Denver Kirkland, Keith Bryant etc.
Mario Cristobal hired as the new WR coach. edit: he will be the new TE coach and assistant HC, while Carroll will coach WR.
That was a good hire for Miami! I don't know why he was fired in the first place. Congrats on the big win tonight!
Anyone paying attention to the men's basketball team? I know it's early but 3-0 in the ACC with wins against Michigan State and North Carolina. If they can hold ship for the next two weeks until Reggie gets back, they might have a chance for the tournament this year. Gamble, Kenny, and Larkin have been huge. Looks like Coach L has been a great hire.
Yep. Haith to Coach L is just as impressive as Shannon to Golden. Two homerun hires for sure. Undefeated in conf play with top 5 RPI, and top 5 SOS, while Reggie has been out is impressive. Although they aren't getting any love in the polls. Just gotta keep winning though and the respect will be given.
O C Jedd Fisch to be Jaguars OC. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...isch-reportedly-hired-by-jacksonville-jaguars
This is what happens when you just don't pay well. Hopefully they can find a better replacement. I kind of liked Fisch...
It's a good thing that the NFL poaches your college staff. That means they're doing something right. Btw, I doubt it had anything to do with money. He had already turned down Pete Carroll at Seattle for the OC job when he took over. Fisch is young, and it's not surprising that he's getting a shot in the NFL.
Hopefully the Duke can be just as an explosive runner with the new OC's play calling. I would have been less disappointed if our DC had bailed instead.
Yes, everyone wants that shot to get to the NFL. Fisch has already been there and my guess, is he's leaving because it's a lot more money along with getting that second shot in the NFL. I hope its not because santions are coming soon. Hopefully that also does not make it hard to hire one. Hmmm maybe we see Cristobal take over?
He was the coach who put the Canes on the map even before the UM football glory days .I became a NCAA baseball fan because of him and the domination his teams displayed in the College world series.RIP to a great coach. There are not many like him these days.
UM basketball team is ranked #25 by the AP poll. Has to play Duke on Wednesday and the Seminoles on Sunday (both at home). I think we might be able to go 1-1 this week. I don't think we beat duke without Reggie Johnson who is still inactive.
Reports: Miami lands pass-rushing DL commit..... CORAL GABLES — As signing day approaches, Miami landed another commitment from a junior college player. Defensive lineman Ufomba Kamalu gave his promise to the Hurricanes while visiting this weekend, Rivals.com and 247Sports.com reported Sunday morning. The Butler County (Kansas) Community College player was more of an under-the-radar prospect than the other JUCO member of UM's 2013 class. Kamalu is a 2-star prospect, according to Rivals and a 3-star player in 247Sports' view. Tight end Beau Sandland, on the other hand. was considered one of the top JUCO recruits nationally. He's already on campus. Kamalu's 54 tackles last season ranked ninth on the team, but he also had 14 stops behind the line. Among those were a team-high 7.5 sacks. Kamalu also recovered three fumbles.
Is FSU offensive coordinator James Coley a candidate for Jedd Fisch's old job at UM? The rumors are spreading: Florida State offensive coordinator James Coley could be Miami's next offensive coordinator. Settle down Canes fans. This Coley story is just rumor-driven for now. Nothing we've heard out of UM today or even FSU suggests Coley is in the running. We're not even sure he's been interviewed or spoken to UM coach Al Golden yet. But be patient. It's not out of the realm of possibility he could be. A source close to Coley told me this morning the 39-year old Miami High graduate and former offensive coordinator under Mario Cristobal at FIU in 2007 is definitely interested in getting into a position where he could call plays and make a name for himself. Coley would be a slam-dunk hire in terms of recruiting and weakening a rival, but his play calling ability is a question mark and so is his ability to coach QB's. (we currently have no one on the coaching staff that either played QB or has experience coaching the position) I'll trust Al on whatever hire he makes but I have some reservations at first glance with Coley.
Hmm, hearing something about the NCAA is withdrawing their investigation? Something about Shapiro's lawyers gave them info they cannot use?
I don't think that's all together correct... They refuse to give up and now have hired a firm to further investigate this.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...04690/timing-of-ncaas-eyes-opening-is-curious Wow, I believe Shapiro's attorney is some deep deep hot water if that is so not sure about the NCAA as I've never heard of this sort of thing before, an attorney representing two clients, one undisclosed to the court, for the purpose of gathering information for the client not directly involved in the litigation which could be detrimental to the client involved in the litigation. I suspect at the very least that can easily be comitting a fraud on the court and conspiracy to do so.
Well, I still can't help but believe, this will further soften the blow we might receive along with the past two season bowl bans.
Hopefully, would not surprise me to see a "we will do X if you agree not to do Y" situation. AFAIK, this is the first time the NCAA has been caught in such an ethically dubious act.
Not sure I agree about coaching QBs, but we don't know what kind of a playcaller he is. Jimbo Fisher was the play caller at FSU and they run his offense (which I don't think is all that good). It would be interesting to see what Coley's offense looks like.
Which is why I said his play calling is a question mark. It's nonexistent (other than one year at FIU which doesn't tell us much), pretty much the definition of a question mark. Also, the man has never coached a QB in his life (Jimbo named him QB coach a week ago), again, a question mark. EDIT: After researching further, he actually coached QB's at the HS level and during his one-and-done FIU stint, but still. That said, talent trumps coaching, and he can recruit the hell out of SoFla. I'd be happy to have him if he's the guy.
That's why people want to go to a game..congrats canes against duke..could be a start of something special, and the crowd will be talked about. You see that experience from a far, your gonna wanna buy a ticket son..lol
Do you think that the fact that Miami was undefeated in conference play and playing excellent basketball had more or less to do with it? We've seen it so many times already where Miami Hurricane basketball is mediocre and the opponents fans are all over the arena. This current team is creating the buzz we're seeing. We're also seeing how good a fanbase can be down here when a team is doing well. I will say that as the game began that the crowd was good but those kids provided the arena plenty of electricity to amp them up and they did...
I sure hope it keeps going. That place and those players were rocking tonight. I loved it when they started banging on the floor as Duke ran up the floor.
There might be 3 NBA players on thsi Canes squad. If you follow the RPI geeks..they have this UM team as a #3 seed. let me say that again.....a #3 seed! smells like sweet 16 to me..and maybe more.
