Take this with a grain of salt, but I can vouch for the source and can confirm 100% that he is involved with the operations of the team.

I work in and industry that directly supplies product to the Miami Dolphins. I was chatting with one of the contractors that is going to oversee the stadium renovation and the question of state funding came up.

His answer was direct and very clear: The Dolphins are proceeding with the renovations, with or without the city. Ross is going to move forward. The assumption is that the funding sources (state and local / investors) are secured, but if it gets bogged down the stadium upgrades are going to happen regardless.

I was thrilled to hear this from the source. Let's see what happens. Super Bowl 50 will be epic in Miami!

Good, the only thing I don't like about this is not only the canopy (which looks dreadful imo) but they keep pouring money into this stadium when a new facility would probably be what is needed.

At BC place in Vancouver, they have a sort of umbrella device that hangs over the middle of the field, they can open it in bad weather or retract it in good weather, they put the massive screens on below the device and over the center of the field (as in the Cowboys crypt) which to me would make for more comfortable watching of replays.

Screens at the end of the field takes the fans eyes off of the field.

I still don't see how a renovated 25 year old stadium gets the bid over a brand new 1.3 billion Bay area stadium....

As much as they love brand new stadiums?

My money is on S Fran area.

Plus it is kinda Ross' typical PR fate to renovate but not get the bid, no?

It won't, Santa Clara is getting that Super Bowl - bank on it. The NFL has wanted a Super Bowl in San Francisco for years. We only got the last one because the NFL had already awarded it to SF, but when the stadium didn't get approved in time, they moved it here.

This is all politics, and Ross is playing hard to see if he can get it.

    Check out this article :

    http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/20..._1_dolphins-owner-dolphins-fans-dolphins-move

You can believe him, or you don't. After the Marlins fiasco, I wouldn't put it past anyone, including Ross to lie through his teeth. This is to put pressure on Dade County officials. It also is good business for Ross - his company will build a wonderful stadium in LA. For him it works both ways. And in the end he may also be able to go to the NFL and say, "hey they won't help me in Miami, so maybe it would be good business to move the Dolphins". The money he loses by either abandoning SLS will be more than made up by the difference he would make in owning a Los Angeles franchise. He could turn around and sell it for at least $ 2 billion. If the Dodgers can command that kind of money, so can a Los Angeles NFL team in a new stadium.

Would I sell it, no, would he sell it ? Probably not for a few years, but can you imagine the money you would get from NFL clothing alone for a new Los Angeles franchise ? The 1st couple of years it would be in the hundreds of millions.

If that's the case then kudos to Ross for not waiting for the city to get something done.

Yeah but they can get bored if they see one place too many times.

Trust me, no matter what, Santa Clara is getting that Super Bowl. If you remember Miami is also in line to compete for 51. Go back and listen to the press conference from last year. We could get that one, but 50 is a LOCK for Santa Clara

51 is a good bet, but 50 is a pipe dream. I think Ross knows this, but he wants those renovations done as quickly as possible. I think he believes that is part of why people aren't going to games.

There are many possible side stories to all of this. Many possible scenarios. I just posted one above.

I agree with you from an investment POV...but I surely do appreciate Ross doing the things he's trying to do for our fanbase, its obvious now that some of the right people know there's a problem inside that stadium..

I hope that we all can think about these gestures a bit more, and maybe start to support our owner a lot more..

I'm sure as hell not mad at him for flying across the country to speak to the best coaching prospect ever..FU$$ Sparano, FU$$ Parcells, and fu$$ the Diaz bruthers...our owner likes to spend money on our franchise, and promises to keep us here for a long time..

Hey Rush?, anything you can find out about what's really gonna go down in terms of moving concrete closer?, or is ADDING some seats at the bottom what were talking about here?

If you wanna get anymore superbowls or big time World Cup events, it has to be done eventually, lets get it done, if we don't get 2015, we'll get 2016, no problem if its done right.

If it were any other Super Bowl I'd say you're correct. Santa Clara will get their Super Bowl, there's no doubt about that. But IMO I think Miami has a legitimate chance at getting SB 50 because I think there will be a number of owners that will want the landmark Super Bowl in a location that's proven as a Super Bowl host and which has the requisite amenities to handle all the extracurricular activities.

Well...for 1....if the NFL is trying to appeal more to overseas....it's better for the SB to be on the EC where London is only 5 hours (11pm) vs. 8 hours (2am) to watch the Superbowl. Imagine how many more Americans would have watched the World Cup if it wasn't coming on at 2-3 in the morning.

The owners with the longest tenure and the most money typically have influence in the league. Its just how power politics are played out. While Ross is a new comer, he's one of the richest owners in the league. Don't think for a minute that that doesn't play a factor in politics of the league.

And while the weather in the Bay is nothing like Minnesota....a 50-60 degree Bay area with a breeze isn't going to beat out a 72 degree Miami in February. It just isn't.

DJ I can't believe you are this naïve - he's doing this for the fans ? Really ? How many Dolphin fans will go to the Super Bowl unless we play in it ?

He is doing this for one reason, and one reason only - his pockets. Give me a break......

and let him pay for it.....its private property, of which HOPEFULLY the county wisely doesn't wish to own. I hope that proposal to sell it or whatever to have the county operate it, doesn't come to fruition.

The only problem with Santa Clara is the distance from San Francisco itself. It's much closer to San José. I believe its close to 50 miles from SF to Sta Clara.

But that said, SF has hosted political conventions before, and lest everyone forget, we played SB XIX in Palo Alto, which is less than 10 miles from the new stadium.

I guess you haven't noticed, but the Super Bowl, no matter where it has been played, has started about 6:20pm EST for the last 20 or so Super Bowls. It's been in Phoenix, Miami, Minneapolis etc, and each and every time its started at the same time.

When it comes to Super Bowls, it doesn't really. Other than being the facility housing the game, unless the Dolphins are one of the participants the Dolphins have no influence on the game. What is Ross going to do if they decide not to play it here ? Stamp his feet and throw a tantrum ?? The NFL can tell him, if you don't like it, sell the team......his money has no influence here. All NFL owners are either big corporations or very wealthy people who aren't going to be bullied by a new comer owner.

Don't you remember the whole reason for this ? It was raining for the entire Colts vs Bears game a few years ago. And it was like 60º the whole game. Yes the weather is better here, but its no guarantee.

IMO, the whole reason this is being done is to make Ross back some of the money he paid for the Dolphins. Its not our fault he overpaid for the team & stadium, and made a bad business deal.

He's our owner, he using his resources to improve our city and our team, he has the right to want to make money in the process, his vision is correct in this case, and I'm grateful that he wants to make changes to improve the atmoshere of the building.

Also to add both Colts Super Bowl wins were in Miami, and in adverse weather.

Back in Jan 1971, the Colts beat Dallas and that was cold and rainy that day. I know because its the only Super Bowl I ever attended. Tickets were like $ 25.......

I'm grateful he does too, but its his private property, and let him do it with his own money. Don't ask citizens to do without firemen, policemen and teachers so he can have his play-palace.

XIX was the only SB that's been held out there though, and that was almost 30 years ago. To me, I still think that for such a milestone SB they're going to want to go with familiar surroundings that are a bit closer to the action.

If this goes through he will have done more for this team in 5 years than Huizenga did in 20.

Put up the money, made the hard decision to rebuild ( not trade draft pics and avert the inevitable rebuild like Wayne)

For all the hate Ross has taken, he has done more than the previous owner who left him a pile of dung. Ross could have easily not taken the hit on blackouts and could have abandoned this large investment like another owner in this town
