Using the player rankings on this website http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2013/all you get to pick who you would take if you were the Dolphins GM. Keep in mind you cannot draft a player if they are ranked before the position that the Dolphins pick. I know this is before Free Agency and yadda yadda, but I figured it would be a fun way to pass the time. Also if you want you can do one draft without trades and one with trades. Here is what I would do (assuming we sign Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings which is a very high probability in my estimation) (Draft order after 82 does not include compensation picks and will most likely be different come draft time) WITHOUT TRADES: 12.) Jonathan Banks, CB 42.) Terrance Williams, WR 56.) Khaseem Green, OLB 77.) Jordan Reed, TE 82.) Corey Lemonier, DE (they have him as their 97th ranked prospect, a guy can dream right?) 108.) Nickell Roby, CB 139.) Ricky Wagner, OT 203.) Levine Toilolo, TE 210.) Dustin Hopkins, K Damn, what a draft that would be...
12.Cordarrelle Patterson WR 42.Giovani Bernard RB 56.Tank Carradine DE 77.Stedman Bailey WR 82.David Bakhtiari T 108.Joesph Fauria TE 139.Terry Hawthorne CB 203.Blaize Foltz G I went offense heavy.
This is assuming no major additions in F/A, but no major losses either. 12.) Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon 42.) Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State 56.) David Amerson, CB, NC State 77.) David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado 82.) Stedman Bailey, WR, WV 108.) Tharold Simon, CB, LSU 139.) Chris Harper, WR, Kansas State 203.) Joseph Fauria, TE, UCLA 210.) Cierre Wood, HB, Notre Dame Priority FA - Tom Wort, LB, Oklahoma (ranked in the 300's)
12) Cooper 42) Terrence Williams 56) tank carridine 77) Sean porter 82) Stedman Bailey 108) DJ Swearinger 139) tyrann Mathieu 203) Levine Toilolo 210) Fauria Sign Starks, smith, and Jennings. I don't see some of these players available, too good to be true
I don't think Williams falls to our pick in the 2nd. He can fly and at 6'2 that is a great commodity to have. I think workouts are going to help his stock. I think Banks in the 1st is pretty realistic unless we go the FA route at corner because I just don't think Smith comes back. If they sign Smith or another corner then I think one of the TEs, probably Eifert, becomes the move.
Fun, and I'll try it, but it won;t be anything like the draft, because rankings are different than what teams do. Teams will draft certain positions more highly. For example, Geno Smith will go ahead of better ranked plyers at less important positions because high-picking teams are desperate at QB. Also, I would like to make some trades Next post will have my entry.
I hate this no trades thing... but by your rules... 12.) Jonathan Banks, CB 42.) Stedman Bailey, WR 56.) Cornellius Corradine, DE Fauria somewhere later... maybe a Shrine OL and TE too, but not sure who. No clue at the rest yet... haven't had time to look that deep at players. I don't read writeups on them anymore if I can help it. Try to just get names from lists then watch video of them. I have no clue how I'll assess mid to late round guys though. Just so damned many of 'em. Honorary mention to will Ebner for being ranked 750th best in this year's draft class.
This should be fun-this is considering Bush/Long leave 12. Jonathan Cooper OG 42. Eddie Lacy RB 56. Desmond Trufant CB 77. Stedman Bailey WR 82. Sean Porter OLB 108. Brennan Williams OT 139. Duke Williams SS 203. Dustin Hopkins K 210. Marquess Wilson WR
Even if he ends up having a Gronk/Jimmy Graham impact? Eifert could be the best player on the board at 12 and would give the Dolphins something they've been sorely missing. He also honestly might be the single best player the Dolphins could draft in regards to directly helping out Tannehill.
I don't think he would have an impact like either of those players. Gronk and Graham are both helped out by their systems and how they are used. Based on how we used Fasano I don't see that happening.
Just in case we do take him, let's get his name right now. It is Johnthan Banks, not Jonathan Banks. Weird spelling and not one I have seen before. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/members/ratings/profile.php?pyid=90067
I don't necessarily agree about the system comment, as I think both of those players are just big tale talents, but the dolphins system could be very good for a talented pass catching TE. Eifert is not nearly the same player as Fasano so I don't think you can expect the Dolphins to use Eifert the same way they use Fasano.
I'm not sure that you can base how they used Fasano on how they would use other players. I don't think they thought Fasano could do what they wanted, and they didn't seem to want to use him towards what he did best, so they basically turned him into a short area/dump off guy. Charles Clay got used pretty much like you would expect a high end receiving tight end to be used. I think there's a good chance that Eifert is the kind of guy both Ireland and Philbin can be happy with.
12. WR Keenan Allen 42. WR Justin Hunter 56. Desmond Trufant CB 77. CB Robert Alford 82. RB Levon Bell 108. Brennan Williams OT 139. OT Xavier Nixon 203. DE Craig Roh 210. LB Ettiene Sabino
12. Johnthan Banks CB 42. Gio Bernard RB 56. Phillip Thomas FS 77. Jordan Reed TE 82. Stedman Bailey WR 108. Brennan Williams OT 139. Omoregie Uzzi OG 203. Tyrann Mathieu CB 210. Marquess Wilson WR
12. Johnthan Banks CB 42. Jordan Poyer CB 56. Quinton Patton WR 77. Tank Carradine DE 82. Aaron Dobson WR 108. Omoregie Uzzi OG 139. David Quessenberry OT 203. Tyran Mathieu CB 210. Vance McDonald TE Hey... I can hope.
Version 1.0 12.) Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU 42.) Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama 56.) Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State 77.) Stedman Bailey, WR, West Va 82.) Bacarri Rambo, FS, Georgia 108.) Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego St. 139.) Adrian Bushell, CB, Louisville 203.) Levine Toilolo, TE, Stanford 210.) Jordan Rodgers, QB, Vanderbilt
12) Alex Okafor - DE - Texas 42) Stedman Bailey - WR - West Virginia 56) Quinton Patton - WR - Louisiana Tech 77) Robert Alford - CB - Southeastern Louisiana 82) Menelik Watson - T - Florida State 108) Nico Johnson - LB - Alabama 139) Montori Hughes - DT - Tennessee-Martin 203) Terrence Brown - CB - Stanford 210) Vance McDonald - TE - Rice UDFA - Kerwynn Williams - RB - Utah State Quick Analysis: 1) Alex Okafor - I'll operate under the assumption that Miami's not bringing back Randy Starks, so drafting Okafor allows you to move Odrick inside and fills the DE spot vacated by Okafor. If Starks is retained, Okafor can battle Odrick for that DE spot...OR, he can be a 3rd down pass-rusher and perhaps he's groomed as a SLB replacement for Koa Misi. Okafor played quite a lot as a stand-up OLB for the Longhorns, so it's not that unnatural for him. 2) Stedman Bailey - If he's here, I'm taking him regardless of whether nor not Brian Hartline or one of the trio of free agents isn't signed. I'll assume Hartline walks, and none of the big three are signed. Bailey gives you a dynamic weapon on the outside, in the slot, wherever. 3) Quinton Patton - He just seems like the prototypical receiver that Joe Philbin would look for. He catches everything, is smooth, has decent speed. A poor man's Greg Jennings. 4) Robert Alford - I don't really know much about him. Jeff Ireland said he likes bigger corners in his PC yesterday. Alford was the "biggest" one on that spot. He's got some speed too, and he strikes me as more along the lines of what Kevin Coyle would look for having used guys like McCann, Stanford, and Patterson. Alford seems to match up well with their height, weight, and speed numbers. 5) Menelik Watson - A JUCO player hailing from Manchester, England that plays for FSU? This pick's got Boomer's fingerprints all over it. I highly doubt he lasts this long, as he's big, strong, and pretty athletic. I think he could step in and play at his natural RT spot or even LT (like Tyron Smith for Dallas). Either way, he's insurance if Jake Long isn't brought back. If Long does come back, he's a much better option as a swing tackle than Nate Garner. 6) Nico Johnson - This improves the paper-thin depth at LB. I could almost envision a scenario where if Miami got a guy like him, you could cut Karlos Dansby before training camp, or move him in some other way. A downhill guy, he's not for everyone, but he's a nice, cheaper option at MLB. He's got experience in a 3-4 look as well if Kevin Coyle so chooses to incorporate looks like that. At the very least, he's a guy you can groom to replace Dansby or Burnett if they don't do so right away. 7) Montori Hughes - Former UT Volunteer. He's a big body with some athleticism. Reminds me of the Bengals Pat Sims. A project, much like Kheeston Randall a year ago, that you can groom to replace Paul Soliai. I think Hughes profiles more as a NT/1 technique player. 8) Terrence Brown - Maybe you get lucky and this kids turns into Richard Sherman. I doubt it, but I think he's a smart, savvy player. He's good insurance if Miami doesn't bring back McCann and Stanford. 9) Vance McDonald - A project at TE. Miami seems to collect them. 10) Kerwynn Williams - Saw him a bit in practices at the NFLPA Bowl. Quick, shifty guy who could do some of the things Miami really doesn't have a player for if Reggie Bush leaves. He also can return kicks and punts if needed.
I'll do one from purely a BPA ... I'll try to take a player that at least makes some sense (eg I won't pick a QB in the 1st round etc ... ). After the 1st round I'll pick a player that is within +/- 5 of our spot. 12) FS Kenny Vaccaro 42) WR Tavon Austin 56) CB Desmon Trufant 77) TE Jordan Reed 82) WR Stedman Bailey 108) OG Hugh Thornton 139) CB Nickell Robey 203) WR Alec Lemon 210) DE David Bass
Really like those first 5 players, but I'm not sure Austin, Trufan, or Bailey will be there at those spots. I'd actually be very surprised if Bailey lasted that long.
I would have had to taken him at 12 or 42. Would you have done that over Ansah or Lacy? In real life, I doubt Lacy is on the board at 42, and then heck yes I'd take Poyer. With the rankings we are using, we are also caught in a no man's land when it comes to Ertz and Eifert who are 25th and 38th respectively. I don't think we were to make up trades either, just pick anyone ranked at or below the same number as each of our picks.
The more I watch Poyer at the Senior Bowl the more I like this kid. And while I wouldn't take him at 12, I would seriously consider taking him at 42 depending on what they do at 12. As for Ansah and Lacey at this moment in time I don't think Miami will or should draft either in those spots. It's really early in the process, but Ansah has disappointed a bit at the Senior Bowl. Obviously he's really raw, but I thought this would be the beginning of his ascent, and while it still can be I'm not sure he's value at 12 at this point in time. As for Lacey, I absolutely love him. He was my favorite back in college football to watch this year because of how hard he runs. He'd be a great tandem with Miller, but I just don't see Miami taking a back that high. I think they like Miller and I think they like Thomas more than most fans. I also think there's a real chance Bush comes back. Also, you can get a good back through other means than spending a high pick on one. The Dolphins used a 2 and a 4 in consecutive years on that position. I'd be very surprised if they used a high pick again there.
I don't think so. He's undersized, will run close to 4.5, and will likely be pushed down the board a little bit by players who've had a chance to boost their stock during Senior week and the other All Star games, which Bailey did not.
Lacy is probably gone by 42 too. I was just following the overall rankings supplied in the OP, and going by picking players at below each of Miami's picks. They rank Bailey 82nd overall.
Hope u right. And yes, I'd take that draft anyday. As impressed as iam with Keenan Allen that would make not getting him almost alright.
