In the scenario in which Dansby is replaced by Manti Te'o, that would significantly minimize the coverage liability of Misi because he'd still be a two down guy.
Yeah there's no way ANY team is getting Darrelle Revis for less than a 1st round pick, much less a division opponent.
it seems the likely scenario is that he goes into the season a Jet, proves he's healthy, and they deal him at the deadline for his actual value. Given his injury history, I think it's hard to envision a team parting with a first rounder in this offseason. Healthy, he's certainly worth that.
its not a trade but what has Dwight Freeney got left in the tank , ,and how much would he want a year ? we just payed mcDaniel $4m to be a back up DT [shouldnt of done i know] could we get a couple of years out of freeney at $2-3m a year ??? not a a every down de but pass rusher ! like trace armstrong was a few year back , i think vernon could be ok as a 2 down de and bring in freeney sometimes any thoughts?
Not much and too much, imo. We need to get younger and give that spot the playmaker it deserves. Anything else is a disservice to Wake.
Could be McD replaces Starks. Miller replaces Bush Martin replaces Long We don't really have replacements for Smith or Hartline on the roster
*I didn't read the entire thread yet, will comment on the OP only... CK- Didn't you mention some potential DE trade bait from Philly during the preseason? With their conversion to a 3-4, who might be available? - RB - Blount - Wouldn't touch him. Don't think we need him either. We have Jonas Gray... Why are we sleeping on this kid? Reggie Bush - I don't see why we wouldn't sign Reggie tbh. I'll be kind of sick if we don't. He's a talented back, who's still pretty young, and doesn't have a ton of miles on the tires. And considering all the talk about getting Miami playmakers, why would we entertain the idea of getting rid of our best one? Another situation where we create a hole where there was none. Without Reggie, our offense would of been even worse. Which is saying a lot, cause it sucked. If you can get Reggie a 4 year deal, with money up front, why not? We have the cap room... Let's not be cheap here. Jonas Gray - He missed last year healing from his injury. But he's a kid i'm excited about. We don't need a short yardage/power guy when we have him, IMO. ACL injuries aren't death penalties anymore. I think we got a steal with this kid as an UDFA. To me, he should replace Daniel Thomas in this offense. Reggie Bush (playmaker), Lamar Miller (all purpose runner), and Jonas Gray (powerback) are young, talented tandem. Let's develop those guys. - WR - Nate Washington might be cheaper then Jennings, but I think Jennings is a better fit for the offense and a more talented player. I think Jennings is an all purpose WR and a perfect #2. Might be more expensive, but we're getting a more proven, consistent player, who knows the system and offense very well. That kind of guy will help Tannehill. Jermey Maclin - For me, this comes down to cost. If we get him for a pick round 3 or less, I'll take the deal. Otherwise, no. I'd still rather have Mike Wallace and I'd rather spend a 2nd on someone like a Bailey. - TE - Finley - Uhhh, no. I want no part of this guy. His hands suck, he's a douchebag by all accounts, and is highly overrated all around. Dustin Keller is the guy. He's a really talented guy with the ability to run, catch, and block. I think a Keller and Clay/Egnew (... maybe) combination would be pretty lethal. A lot of athleticism at the TE position.
2nd and 3rd one i have no probs , top 1 i have major probs with , imo randell showed flashes to build on mcD showed me nothing!
That was 2 yrs ago and his deal averaged 3 mill a season for the past two seasons. Most here seemed to think Miami got a good deal at the time. He is a pending UFA now.
true on all aspects i think , although we are not that old along def line ,starks, and wake are in there prime . just trying to find a guy who wont need to be payed top notch $ in FA , maybe lawrence jackson ,daryll tapp.?? i wanted andre carter last year thought he could done a similar job for us , his prob past it now tho
I agree about Blount. I would not trade anything for him, but if he gets cut, I'd considering signing him as a FA. I also would like to see Bush resigned. I also wouldn't trade anything for Finley, when Keller and Cook are both free agents that could be signed without compensation.
yep i now just stating a fact his cap hit last year was $4m and he wasnt worth a penny of it!! and i wasnt one of those who thought it was a good deal should of been a roster cut before season imo http://www.nyjetscap.com/Dolphins/dolphins2012.php
I was surprised we kept him in 2012 too. I thought Ryan Baker played just as well when we had him, and for a lot less money. Seemed like we kept shuffling in various DTs to cover for the time McD missed recovering from his knee problems, yet when he was finally able to play, the results did not appear any better than his replacements were giving us. Once McD was healthy, seemed like Randall wasn't active for the games, yet he did better than McD in his stead.
If McDaniel is tapped to replace Starks, I'd lose a fair amount of confidence in the people making decisions.
Agreed. Looking only at in-house replacements I'd say Odrick replaces Starks, Vernon replaces Odrick. The only issue then is depth.
I believe that Mike Patterson would be the one most likely to come available due to the system switch. Daryl Tapp could come available. If they move to a 3-4 then I can't imagine Vinny Curry would be thought of as an outside linebacker in that defense, but he might actually be able to play along the defensive line. The reason I'm not sure more than Patterson will be available though is because Chip Kelly seemed to believe really strongly in a lot of defensive front rotation at Oregon especially with how high-speed his offense runs, which can put pressure on the defense's stamina. He'll want to have as many fresh bodies as he can throw out there...but at 6'0" I don't think Patterson is playing either nose or defensive end so he just doesn't fit very well.
Never mentioned McDaniel in my post. Vernon/Odrick/Soliai/Wake is our starting D-line if we're talking strictly about guys under contract.
Going back to Revis for a second, on my way into work this morning Schein and Gannon were talking about Revis briefly. And although it would be highly highly doubtful for the Jets to trade Revis within the division, Gannon said a certain team in South Florida would be very interested IF Revis were to become available via free agency. He does only have one year left on his deal. But he said the Dolphins with a lack of playmakers on defense, particularly the secondary and their inability to track the ball in the air (he named Sean Smith specifically) could spend a nice chunk of their available salary cap room on acquiring the all pro. So the Jets trading him is possibly their preemptive strike to not let him hit free agency next year and end up playing for us. This way, they get something in return and he's traded outside the division where it's that teams responsibility to resign him.
A possible FA candidate, Will Smith may be released by the Saints with their switch to a 3-4, thoughts?
Along with Will Smith I believe that Jonathan Vilma would become available as well. I know he's getting older, but he is a MLB in a 4-3 unlike the big slow 3-4 ILB we have as our current starters. We need more sideline to sideline linebackers on this team. There is no reason why both of our safeties had 95ish tackles this year. We need to improve our 4-3 linebacking core and Vilma and an Arthur Brown from K State in the 3rd would be an excellent start, IMO....your thoughts....
I don't see a trade for RB, if Ireland listens to Philbin. Green Bay has had a long history of getting RB's to fit with their system without giving up a lot (late rounders, etc.). I don't think Philbin will put a premium on that and foresee that they would look to draft a RB or sign another who might be released. Though the Dolphins will need one if Bush leaves, it is not something I think they will see as so vital they have to trade. Trades are such a difficult thing in the NFL these days given contracts and player value (unless the trade involves draft choices). If Ireland trades draft choices for a vet - unless it's 6th round or above - it would be a great disappointment. Maclin however would be a great addition. But, I suspect Chip Kelly will want that talent around for his offense given his first year. You don't want to get rid of a talented WR (in spite of low production b/c of injury) when you are under pressure as a first year coach whose offensive system will be significantly scrutinized.
Vilma may be a 4-3 backer but he's equally slow as a big 3-4 ILB. I could be wrong but I don't envision a scenario Arthur Brown is available in the third, barring some unknown makeup issues.
Well, I think the big question is just how versatile they're willing to be in the running game. If one sticks to Philbin's roots, Green Bay has pretty much expanded their run packages. I don't know if Miami would do the same but I think Blount is just a lot of blah. I don't think he's good at anything, really. He's had some success on power and counter plays but I still wouldn't invest much into him. I'd rather spend money on Cedric Benson if I had to choose between the two, honestly.
At this point he is usually mocked in middle of 3rd round in most professional mock drafts. Of course the combine changes everything and positions will rise or fall. We need to upgrade our LBers and the thought of Vilma certainly crosse my mind as a 4-3 MLB who has more speed than what we currently have. I know Vilma is getting older and sitting out for a year makes him even more risky, but with them switching defenses he will be on the block, and his price shouldnt be too high, IMO. I feel that Dansby needs to be replaced. His solid tackle count and his defensive-playcalling aside he just didn't impact the game enough, and certainly not enough for the lofty price tag. Personally I think Ogletree will be a beast, but how many people would be up for him in the first, ofcourse depends on the combine, but watching him play this year, I believe he will tear up the combine!
I also don't see any New Orleans cast-offs that will be compelling for Miami. That defense was pretty awful and the guys that will be cast off will be cast off for a reason. The guys I would be interested in (Akiem Hicks, Sedrick Ellis, Cameron Jordan, Junior Galette, Martez Wilson), I am pretty sure they aren't going to throw away. I guess I would consider Broderick Bunkley if they threw him away.
Hmm, it appeared that Jumba mentioned McD was resigned? Perhaps I read it incorrectly IMO, knowing Ireland's MO, how about the Steelers Emmanual Sanders? RFA, don't expect the Stealers will tender him with a huge offer
What suggest to you guys that Arthur Brown's valuation is that of a late first or NLT 2nd round? I know you guys know because I follow your posts on this forum and others, just hadn't seen him valued that high as of this time. I'm sure the combine will help him only rise.
Also, what is your opinion on Sam Shields, is he worth SS24 money? I am a Cane fan and I know I can come across as a bit of a homer, but I'm a football fan as well and follow players like you guys. I just feel Sam has grown significantly from being waisted at the U. He has blossomed into a really good cover and with his burst, I feel we would be better off with him rather than the always trailing SS24 who is just an average CB IMO. Him being a RFA, what would his tender most likely be, and whats the highest you'd be willing to offer for him(as in trade)?
Brown has great range. Over the past few years, LBs with that kind of range tend to end up being drafted earlier than projected.
In regards to potential trade targets, I'd like to get my hands on Javon House and Cody Ross from GB. I doubt GB would be interested in moving either though.
I see a lot of NaVorro Bowman/Daryl Washington in him. I think the Ravens have already taken note of him, and I know the Colts have.
I wanted Sam Shields as a late round pick that year. So much athleticism, you have to figure you have a semi-decent chance of molding something out him. The Packers aren't letting him go, IMO. I think if anything they could move on from Tramon Williams and try and go with Sam Shields, Casey Hayward and Davon House in addition to Charles Woodson.
Yeah they're not in that habit unless they get blown away with an offer. As I speculated in the original post though, I could see them putting Tramon Williams up for sale, going with a youth movement.
