Problem is to start over with a new stadium would likely cost close to a $billion, more than likely, Ross just isn't going to invest that much into a city that doesn't fill the stadium no matter what we do. (Bearing in mind most don't go because they've made it too expensive to any average fan who isn't wealthy.) JMHO
Because, if your a smart business man, you don't conform, what you do is create the ultimate action arena, which has NEVER!!!! been done, one where the fans are so close to the action they become engaged into the game, and can IMPACT the game.. THATS, how you get fans to a stadium, i repeat, make them feel like they can have an impact, and they will come, not offering 30 percent of your space for fu&$ing tvs and sh&$, where losers are watching news on other games and the redzone channel drinking cocktails... Build a state of the art Intimidation complex, and I guarantee it will be the most exciting sought after arena in sports.. The people building stadiums the last 20 years are morons...like for real, it's really a joke.
Oz I really am not sure what your saying here, but I believe you just made my point how moronic Wayne H was when it came to the stadium.. This rule should be exposed by the media, dolphin execs at the moment, there should be a campaign along with the new renovation vision that's says that rule will now be replaced with the standing and screaming your *** off for your fu&$ing team rule.. I'm getting really pissed right now brother, need to step out.
The only renovation I care about is the renovating of the Dolphins back into a perennial playoff team.
I truly don't believe in any sport, any team can reach the pinnacle of their sport, without great support and enthusiasm.. I don't think our culture can produce either at this point, and imo, that makes it all the more difficult to turn things around. But yeah, building a stadium that stands 25 thousand who have cocktails in one hand and their iPhones in the other should do the trick. I cannot believe this rule that Ozzy's told us about, it really makes me angry man.
Don't we have rights once we buy a ticket, like if we wanna stand and cheer, and someone tells us to sit, we can tell them to piss off?
To my simple way of thinking, accrual of talented players is the main thing needed to turn things around. If a good product is put on the field, the fans will come.
That's correct, but accruing those players, keeping those payers, getting the most out of those players, is becoming increasing more difficult in this culture and in that stadium. I'm sure you've read this many times by me...but I will repeat it, " it's gonna take a special kind of player to win in this town and in that stadium"
Yeah and the dad that brings his 10 year old son to his first game, doesnt want him hearing a drunk cursing a-hole blocking their view the entire game. There has to be a happy medium DJ.
Take a look at the UM B-Ball team! Their arena has been a ghost town until now. The team has created a buzz. The fans are finally following that buzz. The team is used to winning in an empty stadium. They've had no trouble doing it at 9-0 this season. Win and they shall come.... As for the rule. It's not like they gave us a handbook but so many fans think that they pay so much money that they should be catered to and WH let them run his asylum so to speak. I actually had seats in the club level, which are really expensive. I spent one season there and bailed quick because I was a very unwelcomed rowdy fan.
Nope! The rights were given to the ones who spent the most money for tickets. As in the club level, where tons of older fans sit, and the sidelines where tons of lazy fans sit. When I got to the endzones, I was estatic! The first thing I noticed was this big ol dude wearing a T-shirst that said "No. you stand up" written on the back in majic marker. I thought to myself, I'm home! BUT a fan could still run to the ushers and have them ask him to sit. It happened a few times but the rest of us (the regulars) would break their balls for the rest of the game and usually they would give in......
Really it's not. If Jeff Ireland finds a superstar, the fans will automatically increase. If he improves the team considerably the fans will further increase. If the coaching staff actually teaches the players and they get it, which happens in Davie, not the stadium, then the fans will come in droves.... We all want a better product on the field. So a special kind of player just has to be a special football player. Not a football player who is special because he can play well in front of 20 people or 2 million....
Yes, the happy medium us usually when the Dolphins defense is on the field and especially when it's a close game. It's not just the drunks though. I have not had a drink in almost 25 years and I am the culprit of getting the fans to stand and scream. When the offense is on the field, I encourage quiet. When I was 9, I was one of those kids and it did not bother me a bit because I would climb up on the seat and could see fine. I was molded into being this way but in Miami (now) we have a bunch of fans who do not know when it's time to sit and when it's time to stand and scream. They love to start the freaking wave when the offense is on the field and when our team is driving or does something great, they won't shut up for ten minutes...
then get the son off his *** and get him involved in the game, and the guy standing doesn't have to be cursing, just everybody engaged, you know kind of like what they do in some other places.
I get that man, I also get that the intimate packed house, the proximity from stands to court, the energy provided by that helped that team elevate their play..I watched the whole thing very close.. What you don't seem to understand is we can have a good team, the fans will come, and we won't have the same luxuries, were still too far apart from our players...why is it that so many folks can't get this..I mean come on, you have a billion dollar proffessional franchise telling you it directly and indirectly all the time...I guarantee if you ask Mike Dee what the most important part of the project is he will tell you getting the fans cler to the action..what's it gonna take Oz..
It might take a bit with a new stadium but once you have a night like the canes had, where the exposure was there, the energy and visuals are all there, people will want to come, more season tickets will be sold..that's because they want to be a part of what they saw..it's called fun.
I agree 100%. I am the fan standing on D, sitting on O, and standing/cheering on big plays! During those times, the people need to stand to see and join in!
If thats the case, then perfect, i agree. But telling someone to "piss off" that tells you to sit (at odd moments, not exciting moments like stated above) that's wrong. Look, my name is "sick", I am all for loud crazy crowd. We have a product worthy of selling out, and it will happen.
That's wrong, and there needs to be a fundamental change in the approach and the message your sending to the fans, a literal message to the Fans.
I think the self motivation, passion part of the character of the player needs to have a higher importance put in it when it comes to an evaluation...I think you have to find players that will create identity to help the culture build.
I disagree, we have won in that stadium before. The stadium has been LOUD LOUD LOUD. It's the same thing as the people complaining about the baseball field....it's an excuse. We won on that field, we also sucked on that field. It wasnt the field, it was the product playing on it.
DJ, I can pretty much guarantee that I said the seats were too far away long before anyone on these boards. Like the very first game at Joe Robbie stadium. I was there and loved the stadium but hated that fact. I've said it for years on these boards. From the old AOL board DD, to Rivals, to DolfanTalk, to FH .......to here.
Yes it will. It can be better with seating closer but It's a fact, when there is a good product in that stadium, it's plenty loud enough to distract the opponent.
I still remember the epic comeback against the Bills several years ago when Frerotte went down and Rosenfels won the game in the 4th quarter. The stadium was less than half full, and we got fairly loud IMO.
http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/03/27/3309488/miami-dolphins-pledge-to-pay-back.html Looks like this contractor was spot on.. This is happening.. Especially when you consider these concessions.
They're not. They're asking for a 1 percentage point increase in the bed tax to pay for this. Something local people won't even have taken out of their pockets.
Wasn't it back in 95, the last game that Montana and Marino played against each other, when the fans were so loud (and wouldn't shut up) that they drew a 15 yard unsportsmanlike?
He's been scooped on the uniform/logo and now the stadium. What's he good for anyways!? Just kidding Section
I understand you realize the distance is there, I just don't think you understand the disadvantage that comes with it.
No it's not, and when you have the variables in place that we do, /bad configuration, not full to capacity really ever), your compounding the problem, and crippling any type of consistency you could generate with closer stands..
weve won some games, sure, but what have both programs really won in that building? It's all relative..not something you could ever prove..crowd noise and energy as it relates to logistics as it relates to elevated play and sustained adrenaline that is.
we had 76% home attendance last year. that was the worst in the league. I hope Ross doesn't feel he needs to move this team. I dont even know if the NFL would approve a move. The dolphins are an NFL staple in Miami.
