Great first episode!!! Good story line. I wonder why it's never been done before. You would think after the Silence of the Lambs (and the sequels) that it would have been done before.
I liked it, but they're setting it up to have a good 10 15 minutes of each episode being bacon sitting in the interview room with the serial killer having some super heavy allegorical conversation. Not that it's a bad thing but it may get old eventually. I like it so far, but we'll see. From what i read about this writer it usuallu takes a few episodes to get into full swing. So I'll give it time
Yeah thought it was alright so far... Spoiler kinda mad the hot girl from lost/taken was already killed off though
Little more wary about where this is going after this week. It's turning into law abiding citizen in my eyes. Keep waiting for villain to say "it's gonna be biblical" to Kevin Bacon. Are they gonna have a new secret agent surprise bad guy in every episode? We'll see. Still too early to judge but its just my concern
Law abiding citizen was better than this show... I'm really disappointed with TF so far. Being a huge fan of Rome, I became a huge fan of James Purefoy (Marc Antony). He's doing the best with what he's got to work with, but I the writers are shooting blanks IMO. Episode 1 was cliche and tacky. Episode 2 wasn't that interesting until the end... I'll watch a few more eps. Hopefully the show finds its groove.
Ha, true about the movie being better. i'm in your boat. from what I understand about the writer it usually takes a few episodes for him to get into his groove.. whatever that means. I'll give it about 5 ep's, and then i'll make a decision.
I love Kevin Bacon, but this is losing me fast. The links to Poe are so arbitrary it makes me wonder if the writers have ever read any of his stuff besides cruising through the Cliff Notes section of Barnes & Noble.
was just watching old super bowl commercials, and found one from 1996 for Tabasco Sauce.. look familiar? good to see this sparked a career that would someday land him alongside kevin bacon on tv for a few eps
Yep I'm just about done with this. Every single episode is going to have a surprise victim/cop being a cult member as the twist? Stupid. also each episode they seem to catch or kill one cultist and gain another. I'll give it one more ep to show something original
I like the show, it's definitely an interesting idea and like others have said I'm surprised it hasn't really been done before. I do agree with the whole new members of the cult thing and how each episode seems like a surprise twist. I keep waiting for an FBI agent to be revealed as part of the cult. I'm going to stick with it mainly because there really aren't any new good shows out there that I watch but I do worry that this show might be a 1 season mini series. I mean how long can they possibly keep this up with holding the kid etc. As once they get the kid back you'd think there's no real need of Joe and/or the cult anymore. Perhaps each season will be a new season long case?
I want to start watching this but I don't want to be pissed next year when they decide not to renew ala Alcatraz.
Guys. Generally the first 6 episodes a network is really in the show runners face to make shows episodic. What happens is once they are happy with the first 6 episodes they tend to give it less focus....that's when show runners start to flesh out stories more etc. I'll give it a full season..and if it doesn't pick up..then I'll drop it. Dollhouse was a good example of this. First 6 episodes sucked...but as Joss gained more control and branched out from mission of the week scenarios the show got pretty good.
I thought Monday's episode was very good, felt like an old school episode of 24 (minus the time gimmick). I still wonder/worry where the show will go once and I'm assuming they get Joey back. I hope it's not a trade the kid for the wife and now you have to find her thing.
Haha, last night's episode was definitely a mix of 24 and Lost. I am starting to get tired of random "followers" helping keep Joey kidnapped. I mean I get that the lady cop would be bad, it makes sense, but these "followers" are starting to be a bit too conveneit. It's almost like hey how can we get these bad guys to escape? Just have more followers show up to save them.
Ive missed the last 2 weeks and it sounds like it was much the same of what I figured it'd be. Until i hear that it turned itself around I don't think I'll bother catching up
The last two episodes were actually, for the most part, pretty good. Again my main concern is they're trying to stretch out the kidnap storyline way too long and once they get Joey back there's not much use for Joe or for Ryan to "play the game".
If I'm not mistaken, you have to show ID and sign in to see a specific prisoner. If the FBI in the show realized this, this would be a mini series at most.
Exactly... the last episode was really dumb. They had the place surrounded... FBI people everywhere, and these outside followers can shoot their way in and out scott free. Stupid. Kevin Bacon is good, but the rest of the actors are getting on my nerves. I was kinda hoping Claire would get killed.... I mean really... You're going to go meet some strange guy in the hopes of getting your son back. Dummy.. I have no attachment to anyone on that show and could care less if they die a horrible death in the context of the show of course
I wouldn't even think it needed to be said. Natalie Zea is smoking. The key to enjoying the following is to give up on any expectations of realism. This isn't that kind of show. It's not CSI meets Silence of the Lambs. The Following has disappointed me in a number of ways, but I enjoy it for what it is, not for what I want it to be. I can only hope Purefoy gets more screen time though. He's being wasted. I hope the writers have an end game vision for him. Certainly, sitting in the interrogation room for the rest of this season and (maybe) beyond would be hard.
Scenario: You've tracked a serial killer whose just escaped a prison transfer entourage (complete with surveilance helicopter) to a crowded building. You look up from the main floor and see him conversing with an associate two floors above you. He has not yet seen you. This may be your only chance to recapture him. Do you: (a) Leave your partner on the main floor to keep an eye on the target while you look for a staircase with which to quietly sneak up on him. (b) Call for backup to cover the exits and the roof (maybe even, I don't know, with the aforementioned helicopter, which now has nothing better to do). (c) Yell "FBI!!!!!" and clumsily bound up the escalator, gesticulating wildly. I want to stop wasting an hour of my life each week on this show, but it's such a train wreck, I can't keep my eyes off it. I need to see how much more horrible it can get. And it only has eight weeks to go. Eight. Weeks.
Because of Kevin Bacon that why it was renewed, 5 minutes into the show and you know already what was going to happen with the prison transfer. Looks like there might be 50 followers after they all came out of the House.
I actually enjoyed last Monday's episode. I did what Clark Kent did and just accepted this isn't a realistic show and just try to enjoy it for what it is.
lol yeah I just watch it for the hell of it knowing its not realistic at all like clark said, kind of pisses me off sometimes though.
Kevin Bacon is good but the scripts are unrealistic and make you think you are watching science fiction rather than watching a cop show which it tries to be. If it would be based in the future it would pass but who in the world would believe that a serial killer would be a professor at a university and whose specialty would be Poe and that he would act out Poes poetry . I find it hard to believe that a professor of literature would have the werewithal and the charisma to hipnotize an army of followers. If they were so inclined you think he would have chosed a different profession. I am still watching though ...
I don't think him being a professor is that out there, I actually think it makes perfect sene really. I mean as a teacher he is probably well aware of how to talk to people to get them interested and as a teacher those people probably make it easier to trust him and to follow him because of his profession. And of course he has axcess to hundreds of kids during the years he was teaching. I mean I think him being a teacher makes sense, I mean someone like a banker or store manager or accountant wouldn't most likely be able to relate to younger minds etc.
Anyone still watching this show? It's gotten more interesting but less realistic but it's still decent. Season finale is next week and should be interesting to see where everything leads to heading into season 2. I will say about last night's episode that Spoiler I was very bummed out they knocked Jacob off. I really thought he was going to play a bigger role in Joe's ultimate take down. Kind of a wasted death where they kept teasing him to do something but never really did outside letting Joey go free.
