Even though I think John Beck should start. I also think everyone should get a fare chance this offseason
It could also be that they might be willing to go with upside this season. If they see Chad Henne with more upside than John Beck, they might want to go ahead and take his lumps and climb the learning curve this year and have him ready for next year. My guess (and since its way early, this is just a shot in the dark) is that Beck will start. And he'll play until he struggles. At that point, we may see Henne and depending on how it goes, that could be the permanent situation. I think the coaches hope that they have more in Henne than they have in Beck. I don't know for sure and I am not basing that on anything other than conjecture from what I have seen and heard and what I have not seen and not heard. IMO, if they felt like Beck was a sure fire starter just lacking experience, he would be installed as the starter and they would be psychologically grooming him to be the man.
A cute notion, but one that's about as grounded in reality as the gas prices being lowered by unicorns farting rainbows. Henne is a rookie, and while he's got an arm, he's got pretty much nothing else that an NFL starting QB should have at this point - familiarity with the team and offense, technical proficiency, or experience. The reports of him during training camp and through interviews with Lee show that he's got a lot of work to do. This shouldn't be discouraging to anyone: it's par for the course as far as rookie QBs are concerned.
I was thinking the same thing but this is a guy who started since he was born and he knows the offense as well as the vets so who knows? if he doesn't lose his penchant for staring down receivers then he will have to wait
From the bits and pieces I've read it sounds like Josh McCown has been the most impressive thus far. That coupled with his experience probably has him in the lead IMO. I'm sure Henne is in the mix but he'll have an uphill battle.
Good article the stuff about Roth, and about our LG position, was nice to hear. It's great to hear that Roth is holding down the starting DE position opposite of Holliday. That allows for so much more flexibility in the rotations; especially if Roth can contribute at OLB, which is news to me. I was always a Roth admirer from his Big 10 days. It'll be really interesting to see how the inside of our offensive line shapes up. I like that they are willing to explore all options before coming to a conclusion as to which lineup is the best. That's a philosophy that I can relate to.
