Way to stray away from a failed "principle" Jeff. How impressive.

INB4 Someone says they told us Ireland would never take a skill player that high, when the principles he "violated" was taking a QB with under 30 starts.

Which, should have been in the Top 5 reasons for most people given the way Ireland's tenets are scrutinized.

I thought that was an intelligent pick by JI and ill defend it even it busts because we simply HAD to have a QB. I mean you can talk about how good or bad the rest of a draft is but if you hit on a QB its like an automatic A for your draft.

You forget, things are different here. Here, the Top 5 reasons Ireland does what he does in the draft:

    1. He only drafts lineman in the first.
    2. He's flat out incompetent.
    3. He's scared to gamble.
    4. F$#@ Ireland
    5. He doesn't value skill positions.

People should celebrate the fact that while having a set baseline....that he IS flexible enough to divert from it in some situations.

Interesting that when he mentions surrounding Tannehill with talent he says, "..and also from a protection standpoint."

    Draft clue or captain obvious?

I noticed that too......he seems to want to continue that because if he tells it enough, he thinks everyone will believe it. Sorry Ireland, we know Tannehill was drafted only because Mike Sherman was here. There is NO WAY he picks Tannehill without Sherman already in his ear about him. Because Ireland is way to conservative, and as you see he makes a "big deal" about going outside of his comfort zone.

It just doesn't make sense, and if it doesn't makes sense, then its probably not true. But of course it only benefits him to make people believe his story, and of course his blind faith believers eat it up.

    So, I'm clear......

Jeff Ireland says he was on to Tannehill for awhile but its a lie because Gil Brandt kinda sorta said he wasn't and Pat White was definitely Jeff Ireland's call even though Parcells admitted it was his own mistake.

    I notice a trend here....

No it's because they have always been so secretive, that it causes people to speculate. We never get a full story on anything.

and there is ZERO definitive proof that Ireland wanted Tannehill before Sherman's arrival.

And no I don't want quotes from Ireland from late Jan of 2012 after Sherman was hired. Proof he was on to him before Philbin / Sherman.

I bet there is none, because Tannehill was WAY outside his Parcells Philosophy. Jeff Ireland is a person who is completely loyal to Parcells and believes wholeheartedly in the Parcells Model.

That is why I don't believe this whole time with Ireland & Philbin will end up successful. One or both will probably be gone by the end of next season.

I don't particularly care for the job Ireland's done but most of the evidence does seem point to Parcells driving the bus on that one.

Ireland could've stuck to his principles and drafted Russell Wilson. Or is he too short to meet Jeff's principles?

Exactly which principles is Ireland willing to violate?

Personally, I take the view that White was a Parcells pick (because Parcells admitted this to Peter King after the 2009 draft; that got sucked down the memory hole in a hurry) and that Jeff Ireland did not want to take Tannehill prior to Sherman's hiring (and still views Tannehill with some unwarranted skepticism, in contrast to his "I already know Chad Henne is a successful draft pick" view in early 2009).

The common thread here is that Parcells and his tree aren't very good at quarterback evaluation and prioritization, IMO.

I honestly don't know what's true about when Ireland got turned on to Tannehill. I think its silly to say with conviction one way or the other. In the end, Ireland did pull the trigger and that was the right call, IMO. I will say, I have less reason to believe what Gil Brandt says considering he's talking about what a GM said in front of a reporter BEFORE the draft. I know people hate Ireland but there's nothing to suggest he's loose lipped about his intentions leading up to the draft.

Ya know, I don't buy this. The one thing that Irish has shown this past year was his ability to draft what the coaches want, even if the guys in question weren't Quitcillian's spec'd guys. Having Sherman whispering in his ear about Tanny isn't a bad thing and Irish listening to him (whether that was the case or not) isn't a bad thing either... This is crazy, he gets bashed for sticking to his tenet of players, then when he changes that tenet to fit his coaches, he still gets bashed...

His biggest criticism among his detractors was that he didn't take skill players in the higher rounds. Now that he's done it, he's being called out for it and only his "blind faith believers" think he was right...talk about being hypocritical...

No one is happy where this team is yet and how long it's taken to right this ship, but it certainly isn't ALL Irish's fault... However, until he is gone it appears nothing he does is right...

And it repeats in a circle that really downgrades the reading experience on this board. Just like there's no need for senseless Ireland bashing, there's no need for sarcastic Ireland defending either. It polarizes the board...
