Benson just got cut. I'm making a pre-emptive strike against any "let's sign Cedric Benson" threads. This guy sucks and he's nuts. He's like Ricky Williams, minus the talent!
good idea, but I doubt it works if Charles Manson could carry the rock, someone would start a thread about him
This isnt FH, I give our members a lot more credit and I dont really think any of them would start that bandwagon.
well said. I dont think anyone in their right mind would want Benson after the offseason he's had. Oh, and lets not forget the lack of production!
looks like FH is back up LOL http://www.finheaven.com/forums/f2/...vers-miami-gets-first-opportunity-222231.html
The hostility towards Benson is fairly baffling. He's ****ed up, but there's alot of guys in the league who have done so, to the point where it's pretty much impossible to have a roster free of them. He hasnt lit the world on fire, and he's been a disappointment thus far, but his production has been on par with other, veteran players on his team. '05- Benson YPC- 4.1 Team YPC- 4.3 Leading rusher(Thomas Jones)- 4.3 '06- Benson YPC- 4.1 Team YPC- 3.8 Leading rusher(Thomas Jones)- 4.1 '07- Benson YPC- 3.4 Team YPC- 3.1 Leading rusher(Benson) Cedric Benson's production has been comparable on a year to year basis in two solid, veteran runningbacks(Adrian Peterson and Thomas Jones) in what is arguably a pretty ****ty situation for a runningback. I think there's a fairly decent argument that Cedric Benson is solid depth, and might be worthwhile to take a flyer on if his legal problems check out.
The problem with Benson is that he hasn't shown any flashes of being special. I could understand taking a flyer on a guy with some questionable (he may still be completely innocent) off-field stuff if you think he has special talent. Personally, I'd rather go with Parmele and I don't know anything about him other than he seems motivated and had a few nice highlights.
I remember back when he got drafted & started crying when Suzy Colber was interviewing him on ESPN. I got a bad feeling about him then. He was 'sad' because the press kept comparing him to Ricky. If he had such an emotional reaction to that, I didn't see good things in his NFL future... Did you see the mug shot? He's smiling like it's a publicity picture.
Off-field incidents aside, the guy is worthless. Cite all the stats you want, he is an unremarkable RB. I think its very fair to label him as a disappointment.
Why would Miami even consider the signing of this joke? There is no room for him with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams on the roster, both of which have more NFL talent in their pinky fingers than Cedric Benson.
I don't know why FH continually has to get dragged into threads with pot shots. They're doing just fine and so is The Phins. Can we ever move on? As for Benson, if a team comes to the excruciating conclusion that one of it's high 1st round picks is such a flop that they cut him, that's an incredible endorsement of his lack of talent. I wouldn't want anything to do with him. I remember a following wanting Benson picked by us that year. Thankfully that didn't happen. HIgh 1st round busts hamper a teams growth horribly.

I was thinking the exact same thing. There's a big difference between tears of joy and the "I get no respect" tears that Cedrick Benson had on draft day. I had him pegged right there as a potential problem child.
For depth, sure. But he is no first-round talent, not even third round. Which is why he was cut. He was making way too much money to produce as much as a third-down back.
