Chris Clemons isnt my favorite player but hes still above average. If the team decides to keep him at 3 years and 10M (total) thats pretty reasonable imo. Hes 27 and should have 3-4 prime years coming up where hes still above average. He may not make a ton of plays like an Ed Reed or knock people out like a Polamalu or Harrison (used to) but hes still a good enough player to keep around. For a team trying to come up and for a player whose contract demands *should* be pretty reasonable why not?
One of the best, if not the best, Super Bowl games ever. The famous Jackie Smith drop in the end zone game.
Starks would be #1 priority for me out of all our UFAs. I'd think Langford's deal last year plus perhaps 10% should giterdone.
I guess you can be forgiven for overlooking what happened in 1979, since you probably weren't even a twinkle in your daddy's eye at that time.
Gaining weight doesn't improve your leverage. If it's good weight, all muscle, then he'd be stronger, harder to move, but his leverage wouldn't necessarily improve. Leverage comes from proper knee bend and getting lower than the man you are up against.
I don't think Odrick back at his natural position (DT) is a bad thing assuming... A. We acquire a dangerous pass rusher opposite Wake. B. Vernon improves drastically.
Dont think that was the plan when we spent a 1st round pick on him. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
We don't know. Somehow it's a good idea to substitute Armando Salguero's early off-season deadline solving speculations?
The lack of confidence they show in their own players is amazing sometimes Odie is a natural replacement for Starks
They've done a pretty good job figuring out who is ready to start and who isn't. They're not really throwing out a lot of guys who are in above their heads.
So... we are going to bash Ireland for botching this offseason before it has even begun? Seems rather illogical to me...
As 9 starters pack their bags to leave, with little to no depth behind them. And not throwing guys into games is one of their problems, by the time they are "ready" and contrbute oh look..Free Agency. And of course we "won't overpay". Beat goes on Dpate
AS I've said earlier FN, "**** you pay me" in re Ireland, he had his one yr for drafting Tannehill, we have 9 starters set to leave, by design, and we have the usual "we won't overpay" expectations lowering from Davie. This is yr 6 of this. Watch, Odrick will have a great season, 10 sacks etc, and of course he is a FA at the end of the yr.
So... you're mad about this offseason b/c we have FAs becoming available? As opposed to what... getting them all locked up during the season? You're mad b/c they havent come out and publicly said we are going to spend money like drunk sailors in FA this year? I especially dont get your Odrick comment. Are you mad that we havent extended him yet? I get being upset over stuff from the past. But it is illogical to get upset over things that havent even happened yet.
Who are the great players that we lost because we wouldn't pay them again? Six years worth must be quite the list. Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Evan Mathis comes to mind. Your turn, if we need to add 9 starters, do you see enough resources to do so? And upgrade the Wr and Te position on top of it?
Nope, what I'm less than happy with is by the time they bother to move Odrick to his nature DT position, A) they don't trust him B) if he does have a good year, he is a FA. Don't stop beelieevin'..... Pretty much, we will have to start Rookies if we sign a Wallace, if we don't sign a Wallace we wind up with the usual Ireland "third backup who showed a lot of potential for so and so" type of FA signings. Ireland has set himself, and the franchise, for a rebuild, when really no one should have the patience for it. Unless one really does think Matthews and Miller replacing BLine and Bush is a good gamble Does the name Nanee ring any bells? My God FN, we've sat on this forum yr after yr and watched the same things happen. Watch, we extend Reshad Jones, sign no FA Wr worth mentioning, and Ireland will go on the radio talking about how excited he is about this year.
Evan Mathis started 7 games in the the three years after being cut mid season by the Dolphins. And, that's your list? Maybe, you didn't understand the question? We've done fine at keeping talent, it's getting it in the first place that's been the rub. Or at least getting it for a winning system. **edit** Oh, and having a winning system. That's been tuff too. I've not read of any teams already resigning a lot of their pending UFAs. There is enough to be pissed about that has already happened to worry about things that ain't happened yet too.
The only real contributor I can think of was Langford. He's very good, but hardly great. In retrospect it was foolish to let Andre Goodman and Renaldo Hill go too. We could have resigned both for what we paid for Gibril Wilson. The 2008 defense was the best pass coverage defense that we've had since Ireland has been here. After that season, they didn't even try to resign Goodman or Hill, also I believe they cut and resigned later Will Allen, which forced them to go corner in the draft rather than BPA.
What do you mean they don’t trust him? So, you are mad that they haven’t extended Odrick yet? Or you are mad that they haven’t played him full time at DT yet? If it’s the latter… we’ve had a glut of talent at DT with Starks and the emergence of Soliai the past couple years. If we only had Odrick play DT, there would be a limited number of snaps for him to play. With that said, and without a true edge rusher on the roster to play that DE position, is it such a bad thing that they were maximizing the talent they had on their roster by getting him on the field more? Its not like we would have been better off with whoever was behind him on the depth chart. Odrick was a big part of setting the edge in our very good run defense this season. First, believing what? I’m not “believing” anything. I have my own doubts whether Ireland will actually be able to pull off a great offseason or not, but I’m not going to ***** about or waste emotional energy on something that hasn’t even happened yet. If he does fail this offseason, we’ll have months to complain about it. Complaining before it even happens, especially since there is a possibility that he does have a good offseason, is pointless… You’re jumping around so much I’m honestly having trouble following you. Also, what is the problem with signing a guy like Wallace/Jennings? Why would that be a bad thing? If we don’t sign a FA WR, but instead use some high draft picks on some… why would that be a bad thing? Are you implying that we would not sign any outside FAs, and then in turn not sign our own FAs on top of that? Leaving us with guys like Rishard Matthews to become a starting WR? I do think its an excellent gamble to replace Bush with Miller. But, with Hartline as our current #1 WR, if you are implying that it is even a remote possibility that we would replace our #1 WR in Hartline with Matthews, I think you’ve started to become jaded on your view of Ireland (maybe rightfully so), and have departed from reality. We aren’t going into the season with Rishard Matthews as our #1 WR. What same things have we watched happen year after year? Have we been losing multiple top FAs to other teams… while replacing them with 7th rounders? I see where some of your anger from the past is coming from… but other parts I’m completely lost trying to follow you.
Didn't Odrick take a very large majority of his snaps from a 4-3 DE position? Not sure why a quote is even necessary. The proof is in the position Kevin Coyle put him in
He did. Coyle likes his defensive ends big like Odrick. But there shouldn't be any doubt as to whether or not Odrick can move inside to replace Starks if he walks.
Well there is a difference between saying that Odrick should play 4-3 DE because that is what the scheme requires, and Odrick can't play DT.
That could also be b/c we have 2 very good DT's already in Starks and Soliai... and that we felt he could make a bigger impact starting at DE than being a rotation guy at DT?
Right, which is why Padre's comment was hyperbole. Gibril Wilson was a poor football decision, not motivated by saving dollars, if anything we vastly overpaid for him vs keeping the talent we had. Langford was a numbers game as far as the one position we had a glut of talent in.
