We didnt need this, what was looking like a big offseason for us all the sudden aint looking that way anymore. Im probably jumpin too early but i had no faith in ireland going into this thing and lets just say things arent exactly gettin any better. 2 valuable pieces to this team sean smith and starks arent even in negotiations yet, instead we turn our attention to 2 players that on there best day cant even be called an average player. Lets evaluate Hartline - Clumsy, slow, 1 td in a 1000 yard season! but because he played a year with tannehill and developed this so called chemistry he is worth #1 wr money.... Clemons - Non existant, didnt even know he was still on the team, i could replace him with a undrafted free agent, give me a freaking break already. Jeff ireland is trollin all of us, seriously. I would prefer we go with matthews at #2 than waste money on hartline which will eventually cost us a chance at mike wallace. Hartline is not worth anything more than what jordan nelson makes, which is around 3.5 to 4 mil and thats me bending, hes not half the player nelson is but for some reason our gm is about to offer him more than nelson. I just dont get it. All this cap space means nothing if were making terrible decisions like this. I dont mind us going after hartline and trying to sign him back, but when you call it "must resign" you gave him all the leverage to demand whatever the hect he wants. Not looking good at all... Mike wallace is the only thing ireland should be focused on, not hartline type players.
So you think giving mike Wallace 10 mill a year is the right move? Who exactly would you retain amongst our free agents? I think your a bit premature in some of your stress but come march we should know a lot more how this offseason is shaping up. Who knows, maybe Long and Hart don't get what has been speculated, maybe Jake realizes that because of the way he's played the last two years, all his injuries, and most importantly missed games , that he will reflect in an appropriate manner and sign for 8 mill a year..
My disbelief is based on losing all of those starters, having little depth behind them and then being sold that "we need playmakers" by Davie Basically, Ireland will have to have the greatest offseason of all time to make this work without the "rebuild" word being used.
Offseason is off to a start. However since the Dolphins have a whole month before their free agents are free agents, I don't see what the problem is. I do see how people love to whine and moan and create mountains out of molehills.
Honeslty b/c they've given us very little reason to be confident in the job they will do. Marshall for Nannee really did happen DDpree, this with a Rook Qb.
Another year of the same old guys saying the same ole BS. "You're jumping to conclusions" "We haven't had a (season, offseason, preseason) yet, how can you judge" We have been in this lame *** stalemate for too long, one way or the other we need to get out of it, as a fan ofcourse you are frustrated and you have every right to be. We need more fans pissed instead of the guys who constantly apologize for a franchise that has been mediocre the past 10 years. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
So then it makes sense to create scnerios that haven't happened yet and then call Ireland an idiot for the scenerios that you created.
Another year with Lemmings jumping off the bridge before anything happens. Niether type of fans would change anything that happens during this coming offseason. Being pissed off and crying about something that hasn't happened yet doesn't do anything.
If u want mike wallace your going to have to pony up more than 10, you are going to get in a bidding war with someone and the highest bidder is getting him. Im thinking some where along the lines of 12.5 mil per, beggars cant be choosers, we have to give him what he wants and letting go of hartline gives us more money to use. We dont need hartline, he is easily replaceable but mike wallace type player u aint finding nowhere but free agency. I never said anything about jake, i hope he comes back but that depends on him and his asking price.
Bolded for emphasis. Players like Mike Wallace are never valued by the team that actually gets to see what he's all about.
Blind confidence does make more sense then claiming that Ireland has signed Hartline to a 7 million dollar a year deal and given up all ideas of even trying to sign Randy Stark. At least with blind confidence you are not wasting your time. I am wary as anyone, however I have been through enough offseasons to give very small grains of salt to offseason reports. I have seen too many times when a signing was about to happen when there hasn't been talks and when the complete opposite has happened.
Really? By who? Show me another 26 yr old Wr, coming off of a 1k/15ypc season in the NFL to replace him with? Honestly, the problem here is Ireland SHOULD have signed Bline prior to 2012, clearing the field to add talent, ditto Smith, Clemons etc Egnew SHOULD have played in 2012 to make losing Fasano easier. As it sits now, 9 starters are in line to leave, 1 month to go until FA begins.
Im not speaking about thee impending FA process. Im speaking about everyone who claims everyone else is in the wrong for venting about our garbage product on a message board. But by all means let us all sit around and hold hands and say, THIS will be our year!! Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
Yes because that is what I am saying. All I am saying is wait for them to do something stupid until saying they are doing something stupid. If they sign Hartline to 6 million a year, yes call them idiots. If they sign Hartline to 4 million a year and then turn their attention to Stark, calling them idiots was a bit premature.
I agree, same old with this team, nothing ever changes. You think ireland would learn a thing or 2 from little brother the miami freaking heat. Free agency not the answer u say ireland?? well make sure u dont tell to pat riley and mickey arison cause they be laughing at u all the way to the bank. We already got 1 ship with bron and wade and we are about to compete for our 2nd now, 3 straights years in the finals, how about you ireland, how much playoffs win have your miami dolphins built teams won? 0, none , nada. we all need to face reality, this team stinks, and it starts at the top, the ppl running things are all book smart ppl, they have no feel for anything football related outside of pens and papers.
DDupree, I've watched the NFL since plan B free agency, and the last time I can recall a team having this many starters set to depart as FA was Baltimore in the early 00's and maybe Tampa, normally when you head into an offseason with that many questions it means Rebuilding. IE, the 7-9 team(s) are being blown up.
And so it begins. The cascading descent into abject negativity which begins each offseason, and usually makes the political elections season look like Christmas time in comparision. Some of the postings in this time of the year make Eeyore look like a bloomin' optimist! Have fun, y'all.
Are you actually saying that since FA is the key to basketball, it should be the key to football? Are you really saying that? Really?
so u rather not give the extra 2.5 mil for what?? hartline? u think hartline is worth losing mike wallace over? lol, just pure comedy.
Well, hell, let's just arm the players and have them raid other teams for blue chips. Seriously, you guys and your period level emotional freaking out is going to be epic this off season.
FA splurging doesn't win in the NFL. It never has. Why do people like yourself keep calling for it? The most recent example was Philly. But remember Shula's last year. With Shula coaching and Dan Marino at QB, the Dolphins didn't win **** with every big name FA that year. Flip over the goddamn record, we've heard this side 100 times and its been stupid all 100.
^^^^THIS^^^^^ And those 9 were so important to our team that they gave us a winning record? 2 have replacements already here. We don't know what the replacement for Fasano can do yet, but could it be much worse? Hartline had 1 TD. Is that so hard to replace? Maybe we end up signing him and letting him replace Bess. Just another reason to trash our GM. GMs are in a no win situation with this fan base. If he didn't set up the roster to have all the options we do have, people would complain that he should have.
Agreed. FA splurging doesn't work. One or two superstars or marquee players do however. See Anquan Boldin in Balt. Any pick of Bowe, Jennings and Wallace works. WR is a humongous gigantic hole, and if Hartline leaves it's even bigger. One of those plus a draft pick would be quite nice. I like Wallace but don't want to pay him $12 million hell noes.
Isn't that last sentence a bit of a contradiction? Certainly WR is a hole, but does that outweigh having some type of standards?
'set' is a very important word in your post. None of them have departed yet. I remember last offseason when there was zero chance Miami would retain Paul Solia.
I'm sorry, not sure why I responded with the jake comment, lol, I was going back and forth in threads, my bad.. I'm not giving any receiver 12 mill...
