I dont see anything wrong with trying to get Hartline back. You can say what you want about his TD's and whatever but the guy gets open. He got open this year being used as a #1 receiver, which he is not. You put him opposite a real number one receiver we have a decent receiving corp. Clemens..... I don't care for his play. I would be completely fine if we moved on without him. The problem with this offseason is that as much money as we have, we have created a lot of holes getting that money. We can't lose 8 players to FA and replace them with 3 and call that real success.
I also think some folks are overestimating the market this year, I think we might be suprised in a good way, the cap is flat this year.
I think the players are going to be pissed, especially the veterans. A lot of contracts are created with an idea of the cap increasing. Especially contracts created before the lockout. Now the cap is not going to increase. Which is going to leave some veterans out of a job who wouldn't be under the old rules and leaving a little less space to sign new players. I think this offseason is going to be bad for veterans. I might be wrong, I am not putting the cart before the horse. That is just my prediction.
How many years have you lied to yourself about this team?? It's ok to be frustrated, go on an epic 4,000 character rant. That's Atleast reasonable. What's laughable is defending a poopy organization 365 days a year and actually look at people sideways who aren't afraid to complain. Will all the *****ing and moaning in the world help? Nope. But save the high and mighty approach and when some does justifiably complain about this team??? Just click the back arrow on your computer.
Agree. But 2 weeks into the offseason it will be the same viscous cycle it has been for years. People have every right to complain until we field a team that competes for championships.
I find it laughable that people just think because we want Wallace or Jennings or anybody that they automatically want to play for us. The fact of the matter is that people are not going to sign here cheap. Its not like we can get these guys to come here with the promise of a Superbowl run like in New England.
I said period level, I should probably change that to pregnant level of hysterics. So my bad for underestimating the crazy that's coming this off season.
That's your opinion. I think complaining about this franchise is logical. Unless you enjoy mediocrity.
Everyone deals with underperforming different I suppose, some rant, some apologize, and some keep an even keel. I'm a ranted, you're an apologist. God bless us.
except he's not complaining about the current state, he's complaining about the possible future state. You are pretty far off on this one.
They over performed this past season. Remember how you and everyone else from the "Crap in your diaper and sit in it till you get really, really, really angry" crowd (or the CIYDASIITYGRRRA Crowd) predicted 5 wins or less this past season? The simple fact of the matter is you guys claimed we'd never take a QB in the first round and we did. Then you said we were devoid of talent and we weren't. Then you said we'd never win more than 5 games, then we did. Rant all you want, I'd just think you'd get tired of being wrong.
Its only logical if the argument and reasoning used is logical. There is a lot of logical criticisms made, a lot of illogical ones made.
No one is saying that anyone should be satisfied with mediocrity or not voice their displeasure about past failures but this thread was started with the OP complaining about an offseason that has yet to begin. Thats *****ing just to *****
I'm not in agreement with OP about March being off too a bad start, I'm simply reminding the same group that always rushes to defend a bad team too remember the past before thinking people who complain shouldn't.
Lol, wow. Anyone who thought this was a 5 win team SURE was wrong huh. Apologize all you want, I'd just think you'd get tired of being wrong.
Yes they were wrong. I see the problem....do you know the difference between 5 & 7? I mean if 5 wins is no different than 7 wins. Then 7 wins is no different than 9 wins.
Baby poop vs adult poop....it's both poop. 7 wins gives nobody the right too claim victory, so step down from that mountain you think we climbed.
I don't think it matters what I prefer. It did make your point confusing because it did make it seem you think it is a great idea to yell at someone for something they haven't done yet. You pretty much defended the woman who yells at her husband for cheating on her in her dreams.
Wrong. When some people vent, many others come running defending every move made. Be it Feb, March, April, May, June....and so on.
No one defended any move. No move has been made. In fact it would have made more sense if you said, "Ice cream is delicious."
What victory did I claim? When people are predicting 5 and less wins, and the team does better than that, then those people were wrong. Are you really so angry you're going to argue with that?
It's a challenge. For us to improve, Ireland will have to hit on players above his usual hit rate, plus some of our own guys will need to develop and improve. To replace them, we would have to hit on at least three of the top five picks to start this year, and have one lucky pick in rounds 4-7 and UDFA that could start this year. That would replace FOUR of the seven players (albeit with rookies). Possible, but it's unlikely to have four rookie starters. Then figure in that we keep perhaps three of the seven free agents. That brings us up to our seven players. Then if we go out and get an additional two decent-good players in free agency (like Jennings) we could actually upgrade at a couple spots. That's the ideal scenario. The worst case, but still somewhat realistic (IMO) scenario is if only one of our top five picks is ready to start or play a large % of snaps, and zero of the 4th-7th rounders and UDFAs crack the starting lineup. Perhaps we only manage to keep one or two of our FAs. That would leave us having only 2-3 players to fill those 7 holes. But, keeping in mind that free agency opens BEFORE the draft, many of the best players may be gone, or we may have spent most of our free agency money on one or two impact free agents. So that's 4-5 starter caliber players to fill the seven holes... so now it's post draft and camp is on and you're seeing your rookies aren;t up to the job and you need to go back out and acquire some tier-C free agents to fill the other 3-4 starters spots since your draft picks let you down. The truth is, if things go like in the past, we will end up somewhere in between. Keep three of our Free Agents. Three draft picks pan out. One of our three open market free agent signings pans out and starts at a decent level. That would be par for the course, compared to our history, imo. And it would have us treading water in terms of plugging holes. What you hope is that the new players are better at their positions, and better fits for the system, than they guys we let go.
Not really. This offseason has already started. We know who is signed and unsigned. Free Agency hasn't started, but the offseason has. The fact that, as Paddy points out, we have this many Starters unsigned, is troubling to say the least. You have 22 starters and 7 (or was it 9?) of them need to be taken care of or let go. The fact we have this many FA's at key positions doesn't bode well. Can we pull it off? I'm hoping we do.
How is it a contradiction. We have a hole, doesn't mean we have to buy a $12 million plug. A draft pick could take care of that whole. A cheaper FA plus a draft pick can as well.
I'll try this again.. I AM NOT SPEAKING OF THIS PETICULAR TOPIC, IM SPEAKING IN GENERAL. Hope that helps..
