I semi believe in the power of positive thinking, but im a naturally pessimistic dude. Tough conflict.
Don't buy the media bs this time of year. Ireland doesn't really ramp up negotiations with any free agents until the combine.
That's a fairly recent phenomenon though. If you start winning, they will come back. Example is 2008 season tickets were at 48,000 coming off of a 1-15 season. The team went 11-5 in 2008, and in 2009 we had 61,000 season ticket holders.
It's really not about positive thinking, I don't do that for the sake of it, but I do think as a fan there should be some hope and support projected as long as the variables are not determined.
This is so ridiculous. 2 years ago would have been what? A year or two after his rookie season? He wasn't the same player back then, then he is now. Nobody has that kind of foresight. But hindsight is 20/20, so naturally the couch GM's all come out of the woodwork, it's completely insufferable. It reminds me of something...
Dude I talk a lotta shnit but I truely believed we were going to the playoffs before week 8, I'm as delusional/positive as anyone in the moment.
If Hartline gets 5-6 then I'm guessing Jennings gets 7-8 so we are at 12-14 million, Bess makes 4 IIRC so it's 16-18, plus whatever the other guys make so were close to 20 million for the group. If we sign Jennings for 7-8, trade for Harvin (unpopular I know), give him 5-6 million, trade Bess, Hartline walks, we draft Patton and Bailey to go with Binns and Matthews, were looking at 16-17 million total. We have a cheaper group that is IMO more talented and dynamic. With the extra $ we go after Cook or Finley instead of Fasano, or Steven Jackson instead of Reggie Bush, or it could be the diff between keeping and losing Long, Smith or Starks. Sounds better to me.
Well yeah that's better, but Harvin is a head case...basically were still at the same number if we sign Jennings and Harvin, as signing Jennings, Hart and keeping Bess.. I got a feeling that the market is not there this year GM, and were gonna get some good deals on some players.. I'm hoping Jennings for 7 mill a year, Hart for 4, and draft your youngin in the 2nd round, and add to that overall receiving unit by drafting Eifert.
You're assuming everyone is as misinformed and rash to quick judgments as you though. Simply because the opinions match up in your mind (He's not being negative about the off-season?! He's clearly being POSITIVE! I wasn't negative about our playoff chances, I WAS being POSITIVE! We're the same thing!) that type of logic is confusing, at best. You simply jump to conclusions with no factual basis beyond what is on its face. MarshallFan01 or whatever he is, is by far the worst at this. I've never seen someone so proud of their own opinion and so unwilling to learn while being so mis-informed on multiple subjects... it's painful.
Harvin is a high risk high reward guy and any contract we offer should reflect that. Low number the first year, roster bonuses and higher numbers in the later years. But there's no one else like him in the whole league talent and versatility wise. I doubt we go after him but I'd be on cloud nine if we did. I like Eifert if we can get him late in the first or in the 2nd. At 12 I'd rather go BPA or for a higher impact position DE, CB, OT if Long walks. Totally agree about the market. Not a lot of teams with big money to spend, quite a few looking to cut salary. With our cap space and draft picks we should have a very prouductive off season.
No, the nimnode who began all this nonsense by playing Chicken Little before the Sun ever came up, and triggered this steady flow of descending perspective created the vacuum around the board this time.
Reports are coming out saying that Harvin wants a contract in the Megatron/Fitzgerald range. That's 50-60 million guaranteed. Not only is he a headcase but he's also delusional
