https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/302454474889379841 He's supposed to be a cap casualty. Hopefully we can coerce both him and Mr Jennings to take their talents to South Beach.
There are going to be a lot of cap casualty players hitting the streets in the next few weeks, a lot. More then we have ever seen and some of them are very good players. Ireland is sitting in his boat, nursing a beer and just waiting for a real good one to hit on part of his 40 mil plus bait. ( At least thats what I would be doing )
Haven't watched him closely this season. Does the dude still have the physical ability to compete? He must be pretty old by now (lol. he's probably younger than me, so it's weird to say that.)
He was the worse of 6 Green Bay CB's. Rated negatively. Hasn't been a positive PFF player in 2 years.
Lost a step but still forces TO's. Id take him for the right price as a roaming DB backing up safety and playing some CB
I thought he was playing safety too. I remember at end of season, listening to NFL radio, think it was Kirwan mentioning Woodson's value, much of it was at the LOS, blitzing, causing turnovers. Not really interested in picking him up. spend our FA money elsewhere.
Pass. Woodson isn't the same player he used to be. And it really doesn't make sense to spend the cap space to get a 1 year rental.
He may not be what he once was, but he's still a playmaker, which is exactly what the Dolphins defense is missing. I would definitely take a look if I were Jeff Ireland.
We act as if we could just grab this guy as a reserve? Woodson will have no interest in Miami. He'll go to a team that has a shot at a title this year. He's not going to ride the pine or go to a place to nurture young DBs on a developing team. He will likely go to a place like New England (unless Ed Reed comes available - BB has a man crush on him). But, Clayton noted that Seattle may also have interest or Baltimore if they release Reed. I'd also think the 49ers might be a landing spot (given how their DBs played in the SB).
I don't see why he would be interested in coming here unless we offered him a ton of money and he's not worth it anymore. I don't see this having any chance of happening. We could use veterans in some spots on the team but he just doesn't fit what we are trying to here IMO. We shouldn't be just signing names to fill cap space, hopefully we stay away from guys that are years past their prime.
I'm not sure I agree. First of all, playing nickel corner is not riding the pine. You are on the field more often than you aren't in today's NFL. Secondly, I'm no sure the demand for him will be what you think it will. He's old and he won't be getting offers to play starting corner anywhere. A team like NE could have interest at safety, but I don't think 15 or more teams are going to be banging on his door. Also I think Miami is more of a draw than you are giving them credit for. I think many people around the league believe with the right moves they can be a good team rather quickly. If Miami can sell Woodson on the fact that they have the money and picks to spend to bring in the talent to put them over the top that could be very appealing to him. Not to mention the city of Miami is a big selling point for athletes. And then there's always the Joe Philbin factor. Being a defensive player I'm sure he didn't have much interaction with Joe, but I'm sure he was well aware of how much he was respected in Green Bay and that could be another selling point. I'm not saying he would sign with Miami if offered, but I also wouldn't completely rule it out.
Still probably better than anyone we've had in recent years... With his age, he'd probably go to a team that actually makes the playoffs consistently though, unless another overpays.
Could you imagine ever having a guy with the production of a Charles Woodson.. 55 booking int's...lol..29 forced fumbles...I love that dude.
