I had Brad Jones on my fantasy team. I thought he looked like the real deal. Seemed to often be around the ball.

These mid-level free agents caught my eye. My base salary price tag estimates and comparisons are included. Would be interested in opinions.

ILB Brad Jones (Green Bay): Estimate 3M/yr (Burnett is 4.3 and 5.6 for next two, Dansby is 6 and 9)
DT Desmond Bryant (Oakland): Estimate 5-5.5M/yr, or Soliai territory (Starks will probably get 6+)
OT Will Beatty (Giants): Estimate 6M (Long can probably get 10+)
TE Brandon Myers (Oakland): Estimate 4.5M (Fasano averaged around 3)
CB E.J. Biggers (Tampa): #2 corner price, 4M? (Smith wants 7+)

I would also explore a trade for Rolando McClain. He seems like one of the guys the Raiders would let go for a mid-rounder

$4 million is the price you pay for a good #3 corner, not a #2.

    The WRs are still weak..

That's your solution to the WR problem? Resign Hartline and draft the biggest boom/bust WR in this draft in Hunter?
Your solution to upgrade at TE is to resign Fasano and draft Toilolo?

I couldn't disagree a whole lot more with that. Not to mention the other positions.

I liked your list. people getting caught in the names but look at the values, if we could pull that off we strengthen the team ten-fold. It addresses needs with players that are good players not necessarily players that break the bank

i mentioned signing phillip wheeler and /or victor butler before to add some depth to our very very thin lb core

i would also have a look at Gerald McRath.[The Titans are not expected to re-sign free agent LB] he was injured last year but played ok prior !

non of them are world beaters and non high priced fa ! but useful guys

It's not my solution, what I think they might do.
    My solution would be to:
Sign Greg Jennings and draft Stedman Bailey and later in the draft, Marquess Wilson. For TE I would go hard after Jermichael Finley.

    Look at it this way:

    Our FA's
    FA How to Replace
    Hartline/Resign/Jennings/Draft choice
    Starks/Odrick
    Bush/Miller
Garner/Draft or sign a mid level RT
    Clemons/resign
    Fasano/Finley or Keller
Devlin/interesting case, I like him but wonder if they will go with a more athletic Qb prospect
McDaniel/Randall maybe? I like him more than most do b/c he can play DT or DE

Maybe I'm being on the conservative side, I'm pretty thinking they might re-sign 2-4 of their own and sign 2-4 free agents before the draft.

The problem with Phillip Wheeler is he played so well this year he should be expecting to sign with a team that is willing to start him. You can't expect Phil to like the idea of signing with Miami to play backup for Koa Misi and Kevin Burnett.

I've not really looked at Gerald McRath. The PFF grades on him in 2011 were not necessarily good, but they had positive marks on him in 2010. Is there anything I should be looking for with him in particular that made you like him?

Upon further review I am either taking CB Mike Jenkins off my list altogether, or I am downgrading his pay to the veteran's minimum. He's worth no more than a shot to try and win a job in training camp, sad to say.

E.J. Biggers was brought up by LBsFinest (who wanted to pay him $6 million per year, which is realistic) and by pocoloco (who mentioned a $4 million contract which I think is too low).

That's a good call. I've been watching him. He has his nits but he plays excellent technique, has good hips, and is very athletic. He's very aggressive with his hands in coverage and he stays in the hip pocket. He's versatile and can play a lot of different techniques. The only times I've seen him really burned so far are on physical 50/50 balls where a big wide receiver just goes up and makes a play even though Biggers was right in the hip pocket using his hands as best he could to disrupt the catch.

This would be an excellent signing at market price.

I like your solution better then. Signing Jennings and drafting Bailey would be sweet.
Back to your belief of what Ireland may do...I don't agree on the corners. Unless there is some concern with his not recovering, I don't think he'll cut Marshall. Knowing how cost conscious he is and such a bargain hunter generally in free agency, I think he'll keep both Marshall and Patterson, who are decent middle of the road corners. He probably figures he has two #2s under contract for $4 mill each. Then sign, if any corner at all, one in the middle tiers, like maybe Cap Munnerlyn, or Greg Toler, then draft one in the top 5 picks. I loved Cason coming out of college though and would like to see us get him and hope that he regained his ball hawking ways he had in college.

Talib has too much off field baggage. I think there is about a 1% chance we'd sign him.

As a side note, I read the other day that every cornerback in the NFL was black. Crazy if true

For once we agree on something. Ireland is too cost conscious to cut corners with starting ability, likely both #2 corners in his mind, that he has for about $4 mill each. If he signs any corner, I'd expect another one for slightly less or about the same. I doubt he'll pay $7mill a year for a UFA corner from another team. He'll draft one in likely the 2nd or 3rd, and roll with him, Marshall, and Patterson as his top 3. I hope we draft Jordan Poyer, personally.

Smiley was by far the quickest. Like 5 minutes after midnight I recall it being announced he'd agreed to terms with Miami. Starks was a pretty quick signing too. In 2008, I recall it happening fast and furious for the first week of free agency.

If we get a little pass rush help, I wouldn't give upwards of 6 to 7 sh|ts if we went into next year with Dimitri and Marshall as the corners.

Also, this is by far the ugliest group of chicks you're ever had in your sigs. Seriously, these women are heinous.

Biggers is from Miami as well, maybe he'd be open to coming home. I don't really believe in hometown discounts, but maybe he's still got ties to the area.

Good to see Marshall get some love. I thought he was solid at worst for the couple games he was healthy. I'd love to have him back if he's healthy.

I wonder what the staff thinks of our corners as a whole. Wilson and Carroll are cheap depth and good special teamers, every team needs guys like that. Sean had a good if not great season while stepping up to the #1 spot and losing his #2 early on. Marshall and Patterson are question marks for injury and salary reasons. IMO if we manage to bring back all 5 we have a damn good group.

That would leave us in a spot to focus on getting a better pass rush, some LB depth and maybe even a FS to push Clemons if he doesn't take a Jones type leap. We had a good defense for the past several years, I'd like to see a great one emerge this season.

I would really like them to try to get one of the FA CBs. I think CB is a big need for the team, but, unless it's a very rare and special talent, I usually don't like the team to take one very high. I think that's a position which is good to fill in FA.

I would be interested in Derek Cox and then maybe Chris Houston. A DB and one of the top receivers would be a nice off-season. imo.

U got a point, but was thinking that he is humbled now after the Bucs got rid of him and the Pats don't seem to be interested in signing him.
Even Pacman has a job these days...
Talib is still young and might have something to prove. If the price is right, sign him for a year.

Without looking through the whole thread, one interesting name caught my eye (forgive me if he's already been mentioned) was the Chiefs Glenn Dorsey. I think he's been pretty miscast playing in the Chiefs 3-4 front as a DE. While at LSU, he was a pretty damn good DT. I wonder if he fits the mold that Kevin Coyle might look for as a potential replacement for Randy Starks if they let him walk.

Dorsey goes 6'1" and about 300lbs. I wonder if he'd be a nice fit as a 3-technique DT in this scheme. Stature-wise, he's pretty similar to the Bengals' Geno Atkins. He's got great hands - recall that story about him beasting Tim Krumrie's hands drill - and he showed some great explosiveness while at LSU; pretty much the same traits that have made Randy Starks into a pretty solid player. He's only 27, so he's just entering the prime of his career.

While he might be regarded as a "bust", I think a change of scenery, and scheme, might resurrect his career. And, I don't think he'd break the bank based on his performance in Kansas City.

I was thinking the same thing. Dorsey in the same role Atkins plays for Cincy.
