I could see that for 2013 that perhaps escalates a million each year as he proves he can stay healthy and play at a high level. Although, I can't imagine any agents are not going to ask for big $ as a signing bonus given that Miami has $40+ to spend.

Blame Parcells? Parcells sent Henning, Ireland and Sparano to go see Henne, Ryan and Flacco. And they came back and told Parcells, Chad Henne was every bit as good as Ryan and Flacco.

You are tripping. Matt Ryan isn't elite but he's pretty damn good. And you know what, if we had him, then what do we do? We stack our team. Duh. Isn't that the goal? To have a team that's stacked? That one win is 1 more than us over the same period, and those 4 visits are 3 more than ours to the playoffs.

As a pure passer Henne is as good. From a mental aspect though?? Henne was bad news.

I have no problems drafting Johnson or Fisher at #12. Although i think Martin at LT and Jerry/Yeatman at RT could work.

If he leaves, should we sign a veteran LT or draft one? I was thinking Jermon Bushrod would probably play for 6-7 mil a season. He ain't Jake but the Saints won a SB with him at LT. Other options are Sam Baker or Will Beatty.
I bet the plan would be to move Martin over and find a RT, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with Martin covering the blind side unless he packs on some muscle this offseason.

The more he speaks the less I like him. He is giving the team that made him filthy rich one heck of an ultimatedum. Pay me more then I'm worth or I'm not going to play for you. Good riddance to that type of player. It hurts parting ways with a #1 pick after only 5 years but at this point I rather his ungratefull *** not be in miami. Ireland should just wish his egotistical *** good luck in FA and walk away from the table. Time to move on from big jerk long

The problem I have with that would be the game film should have already told them Ryan was by far the better prospect. What could a face to face meeting and private workout in their shorts tell them that made all 3 of them equal?

It's a cutthroat business, the NFL. Teams have no qualms about cutting a player under contract for any number of reasons, so why shouldn't the players try to get as much as they can while they can? I think 99% of us could live very well for the rest of their lives on the annual interest of one year of Jake's base salary. I could without a doubt.
So, I do get your point. When is enough, enough?

I wouldn't begrudge any player getting as much as they can on the open market, but do it quietly. Publicly challenging the team that made you a multimillionaire is a d-bag move.

Agree. The Bears ruined Orton's development.
Quinn would have been a bigger bust. Imagine drafting him. Ginn was an easier booger to flick away.
The conversations would be a little different.

FA classes or signees the last few years, as a whole, has not been great. For the 2012 season I cannot even t hink of a FA we signed that made this team better. Most FA that were signed and were here for OTAs or camp did not even make the roster.

His hips and feet are fine. Now if you said arms and shoulders I would be worried I watched Jake, on a very few occasions, attempt a cut block (which is perfectly legal ) and it was painful to watch.

You guys cut bait on a young Pro Bowler fast. Very fast. Especially one whose play is directly correlated with our young QBs health.

2 years, decent bonus, 8.5M base, plus some generous easy-to-reach incentives might do it. IF Jake is feeling generous.

My guess is that he will have multiple suitors willing to go more years at 10+ per on the open market.

My feeling is that the price has nowhere to go but UP when he hits the market. I could be wrong, but he is a big name. You either get him before March 12, or you don't.

My guess is that he'll be franchised March 11.

Now whose tripping. Like it's easy to stack a team. They gave him a real solid OL, 2 great WR's...a hall of fame TE and a solid stable of backs. The simple fact is the guy is purely average. You plug him into the offense we had this year.......and I question whether he even matches Tannehill.

The Jets cleared $24 MM in cap space today. That puts them $7 MM under the cap with $6 MM slotted for rookies. So they are #1 MM under the cap, they just released 4 starters and their TE, FS, SS, and RB are all Free Agents. Add to that their QB is underperforming and has a cap hit of nearly $13 MM that escalates to $17 MM if he is cut. I don't think the Jets are signing Jake anytime soon.

You're not getting it. You can't separate the pick from the one doing the picking. The implication is if Jeffy and Parcells were any good, they would have picked Ryan, and then proceeded to stock the fridge with good products. If we have a Ryan, we go for a high end WR.

But our guy is picking Phil Merling, Patrick Turner, Pat White, Lex Hilliard, Parmele, etc. etc. etc.

Yes we should have picked Ryan. And then not be afraid to add playmakers to our squad in the draft. It's been 5 years. You figure we would have added offensive playmakers by now. And if they didn't, fire them, and find those who could. He's a top 10 QB in the league right now. It's insane you are downplaying his abilities.

He wasn't drafted #1 overall, so he was ok. Another "safe" pick.

I've seen a few people mention Long going to the Jets, and it makes absolutely no sense. They already have a very good LT in Ferguson and a ton of holes elsewhere they need to fill.

With the new 3 day negotiating period for free agents, it wouldn't shock me if the Dolphins came in late with an offer to Long after Jake and his agent have gotten a feel for his market, especially if they're striking out on their own offers to their main free agent targets. One thing not in Jake's favor (besides his injury concerns) is that it looks to be more of a buyer's market with free agents and some decent draft depth.

While I'm not down with that, on hindsight, it was a colossal mistake pick. It should have been Ryan and we all know that, even those that won't admit it.

So if he leaves basically the 2008 draft was a bust. Smart teams have 5 year on draft picks as the core of their team. Especially ones that were the 1st pick in the draft.

People keep misenterpreting what I said as: "Jake Long is the worst player the team has ever drafted." He obviously is not. Taking him at #1 was certainly the stupidest thing they could have done, though. And yes, Matt Ryan would have been much better, or even that other QB that just won the Super Bowl.

I'd have to disagree with you on that one. An all pro Center is more than just an "OK" pick.

In your opinion, what positions are worthy of a first round pick?

and that is pretty awful, and is the true downfall of the Dolphins organization. Until we can get a GM that is capable & competent we'll continue to see more of 6-10, 7-9 or 5-11.

Any skill postitions>Lineman. This team has been devoid of playmakers for years, and their record shows it. Can't argue with all the "L's" they've put up.
