http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5184/sean-smith at least 24M. If Miami wants him back they may have to throw the transition tag on him. I believe the number on that is 8.9. I'd just assume to let him leave.
If Smith wants $24 million guaranteed, which team is willing to pay him slightly less than that? I can't imagine this number coming out now without his agent having heard from another team that they would pay him near that. In which case, let them take on that albatross.
If I was Irish I would tell him I will pay him annually based on how many career interceptions he has.... so whats that 5? Seriously thats is pretty spot on for him....
This is pretty interesting actually when you look at it.....Smith doesnt seem as "optimistic" as Irish.... then....
When your agent chooses to go public with this information again and again, you earn yourself the dishonor of the transition tag.
Sean Smith should probably sell some of what he's smoking. The sale of quality product as good as to make Sean believe he is worth 24M guaranteed, is probably good enough to cover his salary and then some. Win win.
Does the amount he signs for affect the draft pick value that Miami would receive if he leaves? If so then I hope there is some team stupid enough to offer him $10M per year ... sounds like a 2nd round pick to me
Comp picks start at the end of the third round the following year. It's doubtful that Miami will get any because we are expected to spend heavily in free agency.
Yes, but it depends on what they sign too. You're not going to get anything if you sign a bunch of expensive players.
IDK, I think he's worth the transition tag if it's for the purpose of buying the team a year to either develop a rookie or find his replacement next year so that the defense doesn't take a hit from it this year.
I'm gonna be in the extreme minority here but I wouldn't have a problem giving Smith $24 million guaranteed b/c he owns such a competitive nature that I don't think he could live with himself knowing he's not giving a 100% and it costs an opportunity to prove to himself he's one of the best in the game. Dating back to Utah he's always had that confident mentality & swagger that he can be a star, and IMO that's why he worked so hard last offseason, not b/c he wanted a paycheck but b/c he realized he can't be as good as he wants to be w/o busting his arse for it. Some guys use getting paid as a reason to slack off; others use it as motivation to work even harder to prove to the organization and themselves that they're worth it. Sean seems like the kind of guy who will work harder for it, and he seems like the type of player who will treat the contract as a form or respect & acknowledgement, and in return give his undivided loyalty. I think he's kinda like Wake in that regard. Plus he's an emotional player who seems like he's taken on this Miami defense as a part of his identity. We've all seen it in him how he plays, on the sidelines, and during Hard Knocks. He pretty much took it upon himself to assume a leadership role, and he obviously gets vocal and passionate about it, about the team, and about winning, so I don't see him throwing it all away b/c of a nice guaranteed amount. He simply doesn't strike me as the type to enjoy being a slacker more than working hard to become the best. Just my opinion.
I think if that were true, he'd have played better to prove he's worth the contract he wants to get. Oh....and have you been to the doctor to see if he can find my watch yet?
Good thing you're not going by missed tackles, he would see an exceptiional pay raise. Hopefully we draft a CB who isnt a pantywaste that is terrified of tackling. Say what you will about Vontae, but he is a great tackler.
don't need a doctor to tell you it fell off in Unlucy's ***. I don't think he didn't "not play better" b/c of lack of trying. He was on an island much of the year to free up Jones, so the responsibility level was high IMO. I don't believe that happens if Coyle doesn't trust Smith. I thought he performed admirably when factoring that in.
Sean Smith is a bum, plain and simple. As the saying goes....let the door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya.
some rumors about Philly....he would get his *** torched by Eli, RG3 and Romo 6 times a years....lol..
