Just letting everyone know I'll be starting up as Dolphins GM on #MockTwo probably tomorrow or the day after.

I think you can follow the progress here:

    http://www.mockone.net/MockDraft/MockDraft.php

If you're not familiar, #MockOne was an effort to pull a bunch of different writers together to act as GMs for various teams, engage trades, etc. It's all organized through twitter. #MockOne is finishing up right now.

I'm open to suggestions especially as this is all happening before FA so we're really just spitballing here.

But my one idea so far is to solicit trade downs wherever possible and accumulate as many 5th, 6th and 7th round picks as possible. Here are some players that went in those rounds in #MockOne.

    5th Round
    DE William Gholston, Michigan State
    LB Chase Thomas, Stanford
    WR Ryan Swope, Texas A&M
    DS T.J. McDonald, USC
    WR Mark Harrison, Rutgers
    LB A.J. Klein, Iowa State
    LB Zaviar Gooden, Missouri
    DS Duke Williams, Nevada
    DE Cornelius Washington, Georgia
    WR Marquess Wilson, Washington State
    WR Kenny Stills, Oklahoma
    DE Joe Kruger, Utah

    6th Round
    DE Devin Taylor, South Carolina
    RB Christine Michael, Texas A&M
    RB Mike Gilislee, Florida
    WR Conner Vernon, Duke
    LB DeVonte Holloman, South Carolina
    LB Vince Williams, Florida State
    RB Dennis Johnson, Arkansas
    OT Xavier Nixon, Florida
    RB Ray Graham, Pittsburgh
    CB Adrian Bushell, Louisville
    WR Denard Robinson, Michigan
LB Travis Johnson, San Jose State

    7th Round
    CB Terry Hawthorne, Illinois
    CB Nickell Robey, USC
    RB Zac Stacy, Vanderbilt
    WR Corey Fuller, Virginia Tech
    CB Brandon McGee, Miami (FL)
    CB Sanders Commings, Georgia
    TE Joseph Fauria, UCLA
    CB D.J. Hayden, Houston

Judging from this...I'm going to want to accumulate as many of those guys as I can.

    Suggestions on picks/strategies always welcome!

Wow when it's laid out like this there are some solid guys in those rounds. If we could get say 2 picks in each of those rounds and come away with say Klein(lb) and Wilson(wr)in the 5th, Taylor(de) and Nixon(OT) in the 6th, and Roby(cb) and Fauria(te) in the 7th, that's 6 quality players at 6 different positions that I could see def contributing next year and possibly 1 or 2 starting at some point.

My advice, find a way to get a better receiver than Robert Woods.

If we added Jennings, Woods AND a receiving TE then we'll be fine.

But just Jennings and Woods.... Better but not explosive.

Still, don't underestimate how productive Woods can be in this offense. He's a good receiver.

Wow, if some of those players were still available in the 5th-7th rounds in real life I, and I hope Ireland, would be like a kid in a sweet (candy) shop!

You're competing against some very incompetent GMs for most of the other teams apparently.

Good luck Chris. Who you looking at with pick #12? With the news of Starks as a potential tag victim does that change your strategy at all?

Absolutely it changes the strategy. The bummer is that with the heart condition you could easily see Star Lotulelei fall to me at 12 and I would LOVE to take him. However, I don't know if I can in good conscience with Randy Starks and Paul Soliai already here. Tough one.

It's underway. Already Geno Smith goes #1 overall (again) and Ezekiel Ansah just got taken #2 overall.

This is a high conviction crowd!

but there is no heart condition. It was dehydration, likely from too much sodium while trying to drop weight from what I'm hearing.

I've got the St. Louis GM already asking me if I want to trade up. He's got picks #16 and #22.

If this is anything like last year (and I'm already hearing the same was true in MockOne) then everyone will be looking to trade down, not up. The deals will be way below market for the people trading up.

I could offer #42 and #54 to get hold of the #16 pick...or I could offer #42 and #77 to get hold of the #22 pick. Both are significantly below market deals. But doing them would give me picks #12 and #16 or #12 and #22 and at those picks I could get some pretty great players. Imagine getting Lane Johnson AND Cordarrelle Patterson, or Cordarrelle Patterson AND Tank Carradine.

Looks like I'll be consummating a trade.

I'm giving my #42, #54 and #108 picks to St. Louis for picks #16 and #174.

Gives me an extra 6th round pick. I've targeted the 5th through 7th rounds for a spot I'd like to ultimately have at least 5 picks. It also allows me to pull two mid-1st round caliber players out of the 1st day of the Draft.

IMO, that would allow the Dolphins to take a guy like Jonathan Cooper and not feel bad about spending a high pick on an interior linemen with other, more pressing needs.

Theres plenty of value in the 2nd round. IMO thats giving too much. You should try for a 2nd and a 3rd instead of of two 2nds. Or maybe try to trade down from the 12th to recoup a 2nd round pick.

Sucks for him. That was a great deal for St Louis considering they still have another pick in the 1st round from Washington. That deal would leave them with 1st, 3-2nds, 3rd and 2-4ths. 7 picks in the first 4 rounds is awesome.

It seems to me there is a lot of value in the 2nd and 3rd. If it were me, I'd try to trade down from 12 to the 20s and get an extra 2nd and 3rd if possible.

That would be hard to believe unless the guy was totally unrealistic because right now pick 6 is on the clock.

I don't think it would be accurate to pretend I'd be getting raked over the coals on that one. We're talking 104 "point" chart premium in my favor on the trade.

There's a bidding war going on right now over the tackles. The Rams guy is trying to trade up from #22 to #6 or something like that for the ability to grab Eric Fisher. If he is able to get Fisher then his deal with me would've been to replenish some picks he'd be losing in that deal.

I didn't say it was a bad deal for you, but it was a better deal for the Rams because of the great value there is this year in the 2nd round. IMO you should look to exploit that.
