If Bjoern Werner is the one with the bow tie then for some reason he's off to the side voyeuristically watching as I hold some hot blond bird in my lap. Well, I guess he IS german...they're into weird things...
Not going to like your lack of pick commentary on their site? And I am guessing you're trading up for Patterson.
I'm still not quite paying chart value...but I'm paying close to it, lol. #42 overall (480 pts), #77 overall (205 pts), #108 overall (78 pts) and #139 overall (36.5 pts)... ...for... #22 overall (780 pts), #174 overall (21.8 pts) and #206 overall (9 pts). I'm giving up 799.5 points, he's giving up 810.8 points. I still have four picks in the 6th & 7th rounds to try and take some fliers. I still have a mid-2nd rounder and a mid-3rd rounder. And I have Bjoern Werner and Cordarrelle Patterson.
I like it. The thing about the earlier proposed trade for the #16 that I didn't like was it costing you your two 2nds, like this one better as you've still got one of them left to use on anyone that slips from 1st or early 2nd territory. Plus you get Patterson.
By the way the commentary is coming. I was at a hockey game last night and couldn't make the pick myself so I had to text it in to the guys that run it and ask them to make it for me. Couldn't believe I had a choice between Star Lotulelei, Bjoern Werner and Dee Milliner.
Thats a better trade IMO than the first one you proposed. You kept one of your 2nd rounders. This is a heck of a trade actually.
So you're leaving round one with Bjoern Werner and Cordarelle Patterson? What picks do you have left? I think it's a brilliant move. You get these two and add Mike Wallace and this team is ready for a run
Rbs Bernard Lacy TEs Eifert Ertz Kelcy S Cyprien Elam Thomas Thomas CB Banks Poyer Slay Simon Robey LB Te'o Brown Greene OL Watson Jones Long Wr Bailey Hopkins Patton Woods Williams Hunter
I have #54 overall (mid-2nd) and #82 overall (mid-3rd). Then I don't pick again until the 6th round (#174). I have three 7th round picks.
Results so far. Tell me how you like it. #012. DE Bjoern Werner, Florida State #022. WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee #054. (still to come) #082. (still to come) #174. (still to come) #201. (still to come) #206. (still to come) #208. (still to come)
I wouldn't be devastated if Werner was the pick but I'd prefer Milliner if he was indeed still on the board. Moving back up to get Patterson is solid. Too bad Ireland doesn't have the stones to make such a move
I wouldn't be surprised if Werner was #1 on Ireland's board come the actual draft day. He's exactly the kind of player Coyle wants from that end position IMO, big strong, and good against the run. The guy can rush the passer too, our D-Line would be elite.
WADR, I wouldn't have traded back up to draft Patterson. I'd rather have the two 2s and two 3s because there are a lot of WRs that are IMO of similar value and could probably double up at WR with one in each of those rounds.
I disagree with this. There are not many wide receivers in this Draft that have Cordarrelle Patterson's total package of talent. In fact I think there's only one, him. I wouldn't have done this if I did not believe that to be the case. The Draft Winds on Patterson is in the mail. I'll put it up when Dave Hyde posts it. There are some fresh videos broken up by category that I think are relevant.
Werner and Patterson are two IMPACT players. This is exactly what the Dolphins are lacking. I do not mean to disrespect anyone when I say this you simply cannot like or not like a player just because you have watched a few games. If you can move up and get a legitimate number one receiver that is as dangerous as Patterson in the open field you make a BOLD move. I agree 100% with Chris here. If you can sign Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline then draft Patterson you are looking at giving Tannehill one of the best receiving units in the league. It worked for Aaron Rodgers
Like this so far. I know you want to use those low rounders in theory to take fliers, but it also gives you flexibility if you want to move up again.
You know after looking over all the picks I think you could have also selected Dee Milliner at 12 and then using the trade-up to select Tank Carradine. Then looking for WR with 2nd and/or 3rd pick.
Psssh, hush up. I like Milliner. But Star Lotulelei is the only one that will keep me up in my decision between he and Werner. Ultimately, the Dolphins seem intent on bringing Randy Starks back, and that's exactly what I would do if I were them.
However, is Tank Carradine a better defensive end than Werner? And is Milliner a better corner than Patterson a WR? How do you feel about Tank Carradine at 12 and Patterson with the trade? I only say this because while Werner will most likely turn out to be a very solid player, it is Carradine i feel will turn out to be the star.
That's quite a haul for the 1st round. Love the Patterson pick. Any target you're eyeballing for 54? Robert Alford immediately jumped in my head.
Is Tank Carradine a better defensive end than Bjoern Werner? No. Is he a better pure pass rusher? You could argue it, but I don't personally think so. Not as consistent. Not as smart. It's nice to get a fresh reminder every now and then that just because everyone starts to like a guy that you like doesn't mean he's the awesomest guy ever. If you want that reminder, watch Carradine's game against Xavier Nixon. Xavier Nixon won that battle. By a margin. Tank got his licks in, for sure, especially at the beginning. But on the whole, Nixon won.
Me likey.... But, I'm trying to imagine the fan reaction of having Milliner, Werner, and Lotulelei all available at #12, and picking Werner... I'm guessing most would be upset about Milliner. However, getting Patterson at 22 helps... But it could've been Milliner & Patterson... Let's hope the real NFL GMs are as "opinionated" about the draft as this mock....
I like Dee Milliner. I've been sure that he was the best corner in this Draft since back when most folks were sure Johnthan Banks was the best. I think he would look fine and dandy as Miami's pick at #12 and have been saying so since many around here were sure there was no corner in the Draft that could be worth that kind of pick. But let's be honest here, he's not Champ Bailey or anything. He's not Darrelle Revis. A year ago part of the reason I liked Derek Moye as a UDFA stab was because he showed the ability to beat Dee Milliner in coverage and catch passes on him. And here's some plays LSU made against Milliner. This is Kadron Boone, not Dwayne Bowe. Boone is NFL Draft Scout's #14 ranked WR for 2014. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uEsU0DOz4&feature=player_detailpage#t=31s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uEsU0DOz4&feature=player_detailpage#t=47s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uEsU0DOz4&feature=player_detailpage#t=227s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uEsU0DOz4&feature=player_detailpage#t=301s Odell Beckham got in a lick too... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5uEsU0DOz4&feature=player_detailpage#t=173s Would I love the opportunity to select Dee Milliner at 12? You bet. Is it a crime against humanity if another player falls unexpectedly into our laps and I choose that one instead? I don't think so.
In this video you see twice Cordarrelle Patterson goes up against Dee Milliner and gets thrown to, and both times Patterson was in position to come down with the catch if only Tyler Bray could be moderately accurate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHDqPnAXCTI Justin Hunter catches a few on him too.
Thanks for elaborating your rationale there. I think it's a win-win choice. But I'm just wondering from a need standpoint, maybe Milliner would be a better target than Werner? Since they're both great options... We'd still have a big need at CB, no? Regardless, I think Dol-fans would be doing backflips if we got Werner & Patterson, even without the extra picks in rounds 2/3.
What sort of trade did the Cards make moving down from the #7 spot? The first pick I can see them making is Ogletree in the early 2nd.
This pick at #54 is HARD. First off, every tight end other than Tyler Eifert is on the board. That means Zach Ertz and Travis Kelce. But I'm not a fan of Ertz so really I'm looking at Kelce. Second, Stedman Bailey is going to still be on the board. I already have Cordarrelle Patterson. But Stedman Bailey...ugh. Third, I really like Kawann Short, but I'm kind of building in an assumption that Randy Starks is back and that I'm moving Jared Odrick inside to be a trio between Starks, Odrick and Soliai. Fourth, obviously I really need a corner because it doesn't look like Sean Smith will be back. I'm building in an assumption that if I were running things then E.J. Biggers, Derek Cox or Chris Houston would be in a Miami uniform next year. One of those. But even so, we need more corners. I really like Robert Alford. A lot. There are others available. I'm not a big fan of Jordan Poyer though. Jamar Taylor rubbed me a little wrong in the Senior Bowl. I realize Alford has Crohn's Disease and I heard Alen's report from his coach that Alford didn't know what he was doing out there but I have to think he can be taught. He's so talented. So basically for me this boils down to Stedman Bailey or Robert Alford. My heart says Bailey but if I do that, how can I field a group of corners next year?
1. As far as TE, I'd be targeting Chris Gragg in the next round. If you have Patterson and Wallace at corner, that will keep safeties occupied. I feel he would function like Ed Dickson or Pita for the Ravens. 2. Since you took Patterson, and will be going in FA after Wallace or Jennings, I do not feel like Bailey is necessary. 3. Too many holes in the backfield to be thinking Kawann Short. I like him, but dont see much of an upgrade over Odrick. 4. For CB, target Grimes in FA or someone else. I would also target Tharold Simon later after picking up Gragg in the next round. Simon gives you the length of Smith who is departing but better ball skills.
