If that ain't the truth! Those safeties gone be runnin' around with their heads cut off trying to pick up all the blown coverage.
And with pick number 54 in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select.... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...Tight End Travis Kelce, Cincinnati.
I knew you'd like it. In the end I think Miami should go all out on the free agent corners. In addition to Sean Smith whom I'd still pursue to come back at about $7.0 million, I would love to sign E.J. Biggers, Derek Cox and/or Chris Houston. I think all of them can play ball and veteran corners are the way to go over rookies, IMO. I was still tempted to go back to Stedman Bailey. I love him. Adore him. And push come to shove, I don't like Miami's free agent options at that position. I don't like Mike Wallace at his price tag. Dwayne Bowe makes me nervous with his past and hints that he's been a bad work ethic guy, and besides the Chiefs seem firmly committed to keeping him. There's an evil rumor floating around about Greg Jennings' asking price, but he's still the guy I would pursue if he's reasonable at about $7 million per year. The only other free agent option I even remotely like is Domenik Hixon, who can never stay healthy. I don't like Brian Hartline at his price, either. Who knows if the Miles Austin option will ever materialize or if the Cowboys are asking too much in trade. So make no mistake, there is room for Stedman Bailey. But in the end this offense needs some energy, toughness and savvy in the middle with a guy like Travis Kelce. I kind of like that there's rumors that he's a loose cannon, with anger issues. It shows up on the field. He's a nasty player. He's the anti-Egnew that way. Teammates will be immediately impressed. He can do it all as a tight end. He can block, he has extremely good ball skills, he runs with the ball in his hands (note he was a wildly successful wildcat QB as a freshman), he can get open up the seam from the slot (see the winning TD against Duke), he gets up the field as fast as Cincinnati's fast wide receivers, he's balanced and stays over his feet, does the little things when it comes to getting open on the route...just everything. And did I mention he's nasty as hell?
So with pick #82 I have the following players on radar: WR Ryan Swope, Texas A&M WR Chris Harper, Kansas State OT Xavier Nixon, Florida OT Terron Armstead, Arkansas-Pine Bluff OG Brian Winters, Kent State C/G Brian Schwenke, California LB Sio Moore, Connecticut LB Khaseem Greene, Rutgers CB Robert Alford, Southeastern Louisiana CB Jamar Taylor, Boise State CB Leon McFadden, San Diego State CB B.W. Webb, William & Mary FS Phillip Thomas, Fresno State FS Shamarko Thomas, Syracuse
So far you got 3 beasts. Keep up with that theme. Get another beast, cause that's what it's all about.
Some nice players in that group. Hopefully they don't all feel the same way. What about Sylvester Williams?
Why? There is room for both Kelce and Fasano IMO. I'd run 2 TE, single back as my base offense if those were my top 2 TEs. Seems like the Packers carried up to 5 TEs when Philbin was there. Fasano could play Y and Kelce could play Joker. Those as often as Fasano was lining up as an H-Back late in the season I'd guess they could interchange.
what about a 6th round interior rusher like Everette Dawkins if he makes it that far? Wait, what positions you targeting?
I'd guess there was very little chance you expected him to be on the board for #82 anyway. I'd be looking for a corner there or Swope if he is on the board.
IDK, if Kelce is the physical presence at TE I'm not sure Fasano is the most ideal compliment. You wouldn't prefer a true Hback with some better speed and playmaking ability to compliment Kelce? Well if not this year then next and give Kelce a year to acclimate first, so I'll compromise with you.
If we also drafted Jordan Reed to go with Kelce we'd have our version of Gronk and Hernandez. Then I could see cutting Fasano. Thing is though, before we draft any TE this year, Fasano will be either resigned or signed elsewhere. If we do resign him, I can't see cutting him based on this year's draft picks. Even if we took a Kelce and a Reed. I'd just roll with a TE depth chart of Fasano, Kelce, Reed, Egnew. Clay could be mainly the FB.
Yeah I do, but not in the 3rd round. You know what really affected me about him? Sure, he had a great Combine physically. But the bad news is on one of the days he overslept and missed two of his team meetings. You put that together with his history of being in the doghouse and benched in favor of an inferior runner...I'll tell him to go **** himself when it comes to taking him in the 3rd round. If he lasts to my 6th/7th round picks, perhaps...
totally forgot about that. What an dipsh**. Good point on the rest. Yeah, go **** himself. I'll let you tell him though if that's ok.
Of course the player would have to be good draft value. Hopefully at least one of them on your short list will be there.
Ok, so who's out there you'll be disappointed about having to pass on? Cornellius Washington perhaps?
I'm going to be honest. First off many of the players I named, I doubt they get to my pick in the 3rd round. If Brian Schwenke is there I'd take him as a GUARD and not look back. Perfect for this scheme. I'm not as inclined toward the WRs group at the 3rd round level as you'd think. If Robert Alford is there I might take him based on potential. I would also consider B.W. Webb there. But not taking a CB in the 1st or even 2nd round is a de facto admission that I made big moves at that spot in free agency. I really like Sio Moore and Khaseem Greene. Only thing? We don't really need either, at least not in 2013. Neither would play middle linebacker in place of Karlos Dansby. Truthfully, this could come down to Xavier Nixon versus Shamarko Thomas. Two guys I have very high conviction on. Taking Shamarko Thomas would signify that I'm letting Chris Clemons walk via free agency, which is fine by me. Taking Xavier Nixon would signify that I'm allowing Jake Long to walk in free agency, and honestly I'm not sure I'm cool with that.
Would definitely be a physical first 4 picks. I'd like to know what Philbin & Ireland have planned for the Oline b/c I'd love an excuse to draft Schwenke. Separate from Schwenke, what about cutting/trading Incognito and putting his $4.3 million in cap savings toward LeVitre?
I don't think we need to cut Incognito to afford Levitre cap wise do we? I'd sign him and move Richie to RG.
Really could imagine this coming down to B.W. Webb, Brian Schwenke or Shamarko Thomas. Love Xavier Nixon but I'd rather just keep Jake Long.
