He costs us 5.38 million this year so that's likely $12 million+ tied up in 2 guards. Sounds like a lot and might hurt our ability to sign another decent FA, no? I guess it might come down to whether or not that money interferes with any other necessary FAs. Cognito is a FA next year so IMO it could essentially be like upgrading the position by swapping LeVitre for Cogs. Ideas?
BTW, we have a nice chunk of cap space next year, too. If we manage to jettison Patterson, Burnett, and restructure Dansby we'll have like $70 million in cap space excluding this year's FA & rookie contracts.
Not a huge fan of the trade up to 22. Especially for a WR. The draft has so much depth at this position, even if the trade value is right, you're still losing out. At 42, you could of still had pick of the litter (minus Keanen Allen and CD) With Miami having drafted so poorly (In the last 2.5 decades really) in 2008 and 2009, it's kind of important to acquire as much talent as possible. I don't think CP is better than say Bailey or Patten at 42 with an extra third. With your draft knowledge, I think you could of turned that 3rd into something solid. Although, I do love the Kelce pick. One thing you commented on in the commentary box was he plays with anger and aggression. It's an attitude that I think this team needs. If you can get another WR in the 3rd, I think it was worth passing on Bailey for him. Although that depends. Anyway... At 82, I would really consider Swope for the following reasons 1. Talented Player 2. Good size at 6' 205 3. Good speed and quickness 4. Fits scheme And the final two reasons I'd highlight specially. 5. Tannehill's development 6. Immediate impact. Patterson is raw. his development will likely take at least a year or more. You wanted CP because you didn't feel completely comfortable with Wallace/Jennings/Bowe being available at the right price, making the right impact, etc... So who are we going into next season with at WR? Swope presents an interesting dynamic with his knowledge of the offense. You're essentially drafting a veteran with his knowledge of the offense. Tannehill came in knowing 85% of the offense. Swope will likely be the same. Plus RT and RS clearly have guy love going on. Chemistry isn't in doubt. That makes Swope more valuable to us than any other team. Also, Tannehill needs weapons for his development and production. One of the reasons I hated passing on so many WR's last year is because of this reason. Tannehill maturing as a QB is going to be more difficult with WR's who are either average or too raw. Ryan Swope can close that gap a little. And he's certainly has the ability to develop into an even better WR with time and experience. Win-win.
Where can we see the details of all the trades?? I'd really like to see how many picks the Cardinals got for bailing completely out of the 1st round from pick 7.
I checked their page and see no details of what they got to move out of 7. I see 2 extra 2s and 2 extra 3s. Also an extra 6. Not sure how that was worth it. I guess I do see it, but do not really understand how to read it. He made like 3 trades down in the 1st and I don't think he gained much for doing so. But WTF do I know. He has 3 in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd, also 2 in the 6th besides the 4 and 5.
LOVE what you drafted so far CK. Honestly I hope we re-sign Hartline for a reasonable contract. Re-sign Chris Clemons. Sign a big contract CB, sign a depth CB and then make our 2nd big contract a deal for one of those excellent RT's. So that's 2 big contracts, 2 med sized in Hartline/Clemons and a cheaper deal for a depth CB. Then those picks fit right in and you can go a little nuts drafting WR's. I'm a big believer in getting a DE in the first (well I like Warmack to...but good luck passing that with the fans ;p)
What's nice about this kind of mock draft is it gives a good idea of what type of players may be available in the later rounds. Puts up a good relationship of all the prospects available, in the face of there actually being only 32 teams. So while some of those late round guys are graded with earlier round grades, it is quite realistic that these guys would be available in the later rounds in the actual draft. CK, why don't you be a trailblazer and take the lady kicker? Elite measurables (boobs).
Heck of a draft so far. Here's a crazy thought, how about double down on TE? I have to think Fauria and/or Toilolo will be there in the later rounds. Grab one with a 6th or 7th. That'll be some move! Also, since you don't have any more picks for a while, a o-lineman should be good here. That unit needs some help.
Oh I know. Trust me it will be a temptation. With such a strong blocker already in the fold though in Travis Kelce, Toilolo isn't as much of a temptation unless I plan on bulking him up and playing him at OT. The REAL temptation will be Fauria...who would be like a true Michael Egnew re-do.
Ireland does have the "double down" history that may indicate this is a possibility. And man, between him and Patterson, talk about upping team speed. That can have a big impact quickly if they prove to be good players in their own right. Many of our offensive and receiving troubles come from being overall slow - this would help fix that in a hurry. CK are you in this mock figuring on keeping or losing Bush?
Alford and Swope now gone I see, Swope at the end of the 2nd (might have been better for us if he hadn't ran so damn fast at the Combine!) and Alford at the beginning of the 3rd. Do you think some of the players that were available to you in the 5th-7th from the 1st draft might not be available this time as others are more aware of them now?
Just updating this with who remains available, adding some names to it. There are 11 picks left until I'm up at #82. WR Chris Harper, Kansas State WR Mark Harrison, Rutgers WR Marquess Wilson, Washington State OT Xavier Nixon, Florida OT Terron Armstead, Arkansas-Pine Bluff OG Brian Winters, Kent State C/G Brian Schwenke, California LB Sio Moore, Connecticut LB Khaseem Greene, Rutgers CB Leon McFadden, San Diego State CB B.W. Webb, William & Mary FS Phillip Thomas, Fresno State FS Shamarko Thomas, Syracuse I also may have three trade options on the table: Trade #1: Trade back from #82 (180 points) to #89 (145 points), receive #153 (30 points) in exchange. Trade #2: Trade back from #82 (180 points) to #92 (132 points), receive #124 (48 points) in exchange. Trade #3: Trade back from #82 (180 points) to #105 (84 points), receive #121 (52 points) and #141 (36 points) in exchange.
Taking Terron Armstead would essentially be an admission that you're letting Jake Long walk and replacing him with Terron Armstead. You sure you're cool with that?
Do trade #2. with the guys on the board, you'll still get one of approximately the same talent level at 82 and 92, imo, plus pick up a great asset at #124. You said it yourself, you want to accumulate mid to late round picks. you could even trade #124 back for multiple picks and position for a big crop of late picks.
Ain't that just the way of the world. Trade #2 is off the table, Trade #1 is off the table, the guy from Trade #3 is non-responsive, and now I've got a possibility of a Trade #4 from 82 to 88 but we haven't discussed terms yet. Also Sio Moore is off the board.
Better pull the trigger soon. Don't lose sight of the BIGGER plan in the minor details of pick numbers, players available etc right now. You wanted to amass late picks. Do it.
That's not very nice. I learn new online abbreviations daily. Phinsational is going to earn a trip to the woodshed when he gets home from school. After the missus washes his mouth out with soap.
