Anyone else besides me shocked at FinYank's planning ahead in creating this thread? Med-induced moment of clarity?
Back from surgery, ready to mix it up with Finkle in the baseball thread and watch my favorite time of year football season wise bro.... BIG BIG off-season for the Fins of SoFo......
Any clue what plan B may be? If it's indeed true that they were coveting Johnson it shows they're serious about upgrading the pass rush. Hopefully in the draft. I'd love Carradine but I have a feeling it's gonna be Moore in round 2
That was my thought as well. My guess has been that improving the pass rush is as high of a priority for them as improving the WR position. That is why I have thought that one of the pass rushers is very likely in the first round. I figured that Johnson might be a target, but also that he would be tagged. I expected that Miami would land one of the FA WRs or trade for Austin or Maclin. That and the plethora of 2nd round WRs in this draft would lead the team to take a pass rusher in the first and address the WR position in the 2nd. Although I do love Carradine as well. I don't see Moore as a likely target.
Yes, Levitre would fit. Once the bidding war starts, he's going to get seriously over paid. Not sure I want Miami to be the one to overpay him. And Jake Long's FA status leaves some major question marks at the tackle position, which may be a bigger priority if Long isn't resigned.
I would agree with that, but if it is true that Michael Johnson was their top free agent target, then it only makes sense to me that they were planning on using the draft to address the other top needs on the team - wide receiver, cornerback, possibly tight end. It will be interesting to see if they change their draft strategy now that Johnson has been franchised. I've been thinking all the talk about Mike Wallace was nothing more than dot connecting. The team needs speed, and he's the fastest receiver on the market. There's been no discussion in the media, outside of Greg Cosell, on whether Wallace was a fit for Miami. It's all been "He's a speed threat, so he's a target."
I think that generally Ireland tries to fill the major needs during FA so that he can go BPA in the first. Since Parcells left, I've noticed that most of the contracts have gotten shorter (all but Wake, I believe), so I think that even if they added a guy like Johnson they would also add a WR, CB, OL in FA. Then in the draft they could draft a pass rusher, WR, CB/S or OL in the first depending on how the board fell. My guess is that the top three Ts will all go before #12, but that at least one if not two of Werner, Jordan, Jones, Mingo will make it to #12. I think one of those, Rhodes, Vacarro, Allen or Patterson will be the pick. Personally, I really like the WR talent in the 2nd so I would pass on the WRs at #12 and pick from the others.
Maybe. But this is more supposition on my part. There have been rumors who the first pick is, and the player they'd like at #12. And for the record, I've never said Johnson is the target - just so everyone is clear that I've never definitively said as much. I cannot be definitive and protect a source. If Johnson was a target, then there are players in the draft that would fit the mold of 270ish, long defensive ends who can move in space as well, and play on both sides of the defense. I've said one player's name several times as one to watch and honestly, I think its a serious option.
I never said nor have you ever implied that Johnson was the target. Just asking if you had any idea what plan B may be. I'm newer to the site so I'm not sure who you're referring to as the player you have mentioned a few times. Is he a draft eligible player or a FA? I'm assuming draft
Don't worry mate, it isn't you specifically. But I had a source tell me player x was a target. I can't say the name outright due to the fact this is a general forum - which could lead back to the source etc. I have to make sure that person is protected - so I can continue to get info. The player I've referred to is Millaciah Goodman.
If you send him $19.95, he'll give you not one, but two scoops on the Dolphins targets. Act now, this is a limited time offer. He only takes money orders and even though its news, he charges shipping and handling. Pay no attention to the fact the first three letters in his screen name spell Con. Also pay no attention to the fact his real name is Dick.
I would hope that they try to go after Michael Bennet who's a FA with the Buccs. He could really help the Dolphins.
