And the first move is made, what 6 starters to hit FA?

Still need some better quality depth, McD pulling down 4 millie is not likely to happen again, and backup De's, aside from Vernon, did not show a whole lot no matter them publicly saying Shelby did fine.

"If" Odie is to be moved out, I'd suspect a draft day trade and IMO, Jason Jones showed a lot in Seattle and can play strongside DE or DT..he makes a lot of sense as Soliai's situational replacement.

Starks just got tagged because Ireland considers the DL a team strength and wants to keep it together. So why on earth would he trade off another part of what he just used the Franchise tag for to keep it all together?
I'm betting Odrick is not traded. It would be more likely another starting DE is signed and Odrick moved inside to be part of a 3 man rotation. Soliai only have one year left on his deal.

They ain't getting cut till better corners are on the roster. Frightening as it may sound, they are right now the best we got.

Can't cut both our slot corners, we have no starters at CB as it is. They will cut one, once we have solidified our starters with at least one signing.

I don't think it's official. I haven't seen anything from the beat writers (or other known sources) about it.

    Edit: Here's one.

Yeah, I think that's key here. So too, I think, is Ireland stating that they want to get "more push up the middle" to rattle the likes of Brady. Given that, I never thought the speculation about trading Odrick made sense. If anything, I'd be inclined to think they'd add a DE, move Odrick inside if they can and perhaps even trade Soliai while they can get something for him.

I am depressed at the lack of movement by the front office when it comes to resigning our own players.

Has there been many re-signings period? Most guys at this point get to test FA..find out the grass isn't greener and come down from their pie in the sky mindset. Also a lot of signings tend to get done in the week before FA. Usually one side will blink in negotiations at the wire and it gets done.

Also I hope they find a way to re-sign Clemons. He may not come up with a lot of game changing plays...but the stats that are out there are just too solid to let him walk.

2 INT's..however only targeted 28 times (11th in the 75% snap count range). Only 57.1% caught which is top 10 (based on a 75% snap count which 43 safeties counted), 66 YAC yards allowed (5th), 52.4% QB rating on those #'s. Pretty solid numbers and the reason I did it based off the 75% mark is the fact safeties are on the field all the time. Position shouldn't be skewed by safeties that perhaps only show up in dime etc.

As long as the money is right I'd like to see him back in Coyle's system for a 2nd year.

Edit: By the way...best QB rating in the 75% snap count goes to Reshad with a nutty 38! QBR (#1) on passes attempted against him. We have got to re-sign him before his contract is up.

Also consider the large increase of snaps for the interior players. If we sign or draft a DE then we add to the depth of the unit and also possibly allow more of a rotation along the interior, which should help Starks and Soliai along with continued flashes by Randall. Having 4 interior players that can rotate is key given how many fronts we would like to use.

Why? How many other teams have brought back their own FA's? If not many have then why are we any different?

We just tagged Starks to ensure he goes no where. Chances are we looked at getting him done early as he is likely along with Hartline and Clemons the top 3 guys we need/want back.

Starks has NOT been tagged. This is according to Joe Rose who said that he confirmed it. We'll see. Closing in on that deadline.

Hopefully that means that a multi-year deal is still on the cards today, if they were far apart then the tag would have been confirmed by now.

I'm hoping this as well. Based on Starks' tweets, this may very well be the case. The impression I got is that they are negotiating a long term deal. We'll see.

He was carrying extra weight that his body didnt need, which goes for 75 percent of the NFL, but it can only help him out there in no mans land..

He's also got a lot of miles on those tires, Starks had a rough season dealing with his mom being sick, then dying during it, I'm sure it affected his play.

At def end, with a specimen like Odrick, Odricks body doesn't need to be at 300 lbs, A lot of players are not playing at their ideal weight, or body fat ratio.not getting the optimum performance out of their machine..I actually think the trend is getting better though, and the idiots are becoming more clear, and steering away from those idiots is becoming more of the right strategy..I know I have enough examples of failing players and prospects to support my theory.

Omar thinks the Dolphins are bluffing Starks saying they are going to tag him, but trying to get a long term deal done. I think he might actually be right on this one. :wink2:

I don't think they are bluffing, they are waiting till the final hour in hopes of getting him signed so they can use it on someone else.

Furthermore there is nothing Starks can do if he does get tagged, so he has no incentive to sign a long term deal BEFORE the tag...

If Starks doesn't want to be tagged then I imagine the bluff would be a threat. If you don't agree on a contract that is going to keep you with us for a long time, we'll use the tag on you, which you don't want to happen.

sure he does... the assumption is that the long term deal gets him more guaranteed money than the franchise tag. I think that's a fair assumption. Sure you're getting (just throwing a # out there) $15m guaranteed on a long term deal... but that is more than the tag. If a player gets hurt (and that's what they are afraid of) he's in a better position surely.

or he can go to FA where he will most likely get better deals....it all depends what Miami is offering which has to be under the tag number...

He can't go to FA if he is tagged, and that will only get him $8M guaranteed. I'm sure the dolphins are offering less than that for 2013, but I'm sure the guaranteed money is much more than $8M.
