What's interesting is that 5 touchdowns in a season would definitely be a production spike. At $6.5 million a year, the people that like Hartline should be predicting he AVERAGES 5 touchdowns a season. At the least.
I thought you were being clever, saying "6" a year....as in 6points per year. Maybe I overestimated you. How Ireland of me.
Actually I would resign Fasano and take a TE like Fauria in the 5th round. The would leave me in a position to draft a OT and guard in the first three rounds. 1. Rhodes 2a. M. Watson 2b. Bailey (probably a lil high for him but dont want to miss out) 3a. Brennan Williams 3b. Ryan Swope 4. DJ Swearinger 4b. (Comp Pick) Brandon William DT 5. Fauria 6. No pick 7a. Dont Know 7b. Really Dont Know
I"m not basing his value on some belief that he will continue to improve. He is a #2 and that contract is the market for a #2. My expectation going forward is that he'll continue to be a reliable, consistent target for RT. He'll move the chains and keep drives alive. He is capable of the occasional big game, but will never be a great redzone target. If he were then he would be worth a lot more.
Trying not to comment until I see the cap hit, term and how it impacts us going forward. In other words, nothing can really be put together until after the draft.
And what of the opportunity cost by way of the number of TDs Hartline produces at the #2 role versus a different #2 with better knack for YAC and getting into the endzone? Having Hartline out there may move the chains, but having him out there istead of a guy who could average 4-6 TDs a year means you are choosing to restrict your offensive scoring output in trade for a QB security blanket.
Once Miami had a 4th and 16 on the 18. Tannehill threw the ball to Hartline, who got to the one. He didn't restrict the offensive scoring due to being the QB security blanket on that drive.
The ****ing irony of Hartline not getting into the endzone, but making it to the one and going down as if there were an invisible forcefield preventing him from scoring surely isn't lost on you in this example supposedly demonstrating that Hartline is good.
And that guy will have other limitations. If he didn't then he wouldn't be a #2 and would cost a lot more. Obviously it would be great to have two perfect WRs that could do everything, but realistically they're hard to find and fit under the salary cap. So you need pieces that fit together in your system. So while we may find another WR that is a better redzone target, you'll probably be giving up consistency, understanding of the offense, rapport with RT, fitting in a #2 WR role, fitting in with the team culture, etc.
I will say, if we are pursuing Wallace, Hartline's dependability as a possession receiver could be viewed as a necessary balance.
I have the craziest memory for the most useless stuff, and a dumb determination to find it. http://www.miamidolphins.com/media/...-Offense/ecc06650-8ce5-4376-a712-4f460e9306ce The very first clip. It was actually 3rd and 16 on the 19. So if isn't the same play then I'll be damned because they're similar. EDIT: Actually on second thought, maybe it wasn't the same play. It's 3rd and Goal from the 19, they toss it to Hartline who goes down on the 2. So it's 4th and goal. But I'll be damned if someone asks why Hartline cannot score TDs and doesn't watch this. He doesn't have the skillset to muscle his way in. It just is, what it is.
Not a big fan but as long as they land one of the quality TEs and/or WRs and draft a few then I can't mind it much.
I don't think so. Both are rated as top 20-25 players at the worst. Most have Allen in the teens. Eifert is often mocked at 20th to the Bears. More likely combo with Eifert would be Woods or Bailey in the 2nd IMO. I honestly cannot see anything about Allen that says he's better than Woods or Bailey. If we draft Eifert and Woods, then poor DJ. He's gonna have blisters on his palms from fapping little DJ in all his excitement. I expect he may also get cited by local law enforcement for running naked up and down his street in feelings of great joy and exultation.
I think we won't be aggressive on Jennings. It's going to be Mike Wallace all the way unless until he signs elsewhere. Then it will be Jennings. They should wait on Jennings b/c he is asking too much. Wallace will break the bank.
There are a lot of players that don't have that skill, yet are very productive. The smart take from the strong.
I'm fine with Woods. I seldom believe in discounting a player because others from the same school and position haven't panned out. The USC Steve Smith was doing fine till he hurt his knee. So, it's not all USC WRs who bomb. Who has there been lately? Patrick Turner, Dwayne Jarrett, and Keary Colbert I guess. Too soon to know for Damian Williams.
I love Austin, but if we take him we need to do it in the 1st. Given the choice of Austin at 12 and Ertz at 42, or Eifert at 12 and Woods at 42, I'd take Austin + Ertz.
What exactly does Mike Wallace bring to the table that makes those of you who want him think he fits in the West Coast Offense?
Any other confirmation than QAM? I hope they are right, but not they are exactly known for breaking stories...
And? Hartline isn't one of them. There are several skills that lend to touchdown hawking. Hartline doesn't have any of them. Extreme speed. Superior jumping skills. Superior change of direction combined with short area quickness or speed. Muscle.
Love the sig, love the avy, love you you ole fart...how does one fap a a nine year old... That is his name btw..lol..I don't call him Dj, but everyone else does..
