I was under the impression that the Dolphins were interested but didn't want to pay him the kind of money the Chiefs were offering on what would be contingent on a pretty wink-nudge physical.

He did play well last year, I'm not sure you shouldn't be interested.

right tackle market is fairly deep in free agency here if we think martin is a long term solution at left tackle.

This could be good. Anyone know how well he played? I don't think I watched 1 snap of Chiefs football last year.

He had a +15.1 PFF rating... I didn't watch much of the Chiefs this year to confirm their findings though.

I'd be interested. Don't fudge around. Sign him. Also his wife is as hot as Jake's wife. :)

Those big uglies on the OL sure do find themselves some hot women. The one dining with Pouncey last year on Hard Knocks was drop dead gorgeous too.

He played 15 games and 1024 snaps last season. Rated by PFF as the 9th right tackle with an overall rating of 13.2.

8.1 pass blocking and 7.2 run blocking.

Bring him in if the $-$ is right for a back up. Can't be any worse than the Colombo fiasco.

He is going to find starter money and a starting job somewhere. Why would he backup here? We have no right tackle.

He's played 1,000 snaps since 08. He's 29. He has experience in a ZBS. We are going to lose Jake Long.

Ireland needs to bring him in.

He was rated the 9th best right tackle in the league last season and you want him signed as a BACK UP??????? The second the ink dries on his contract he'd be our 2nd best offensive lineman after Pouncey.

Would be a good signing. Especially if the plan is for Martin to play LT.

We should be all over him.

Another bonus is that since he was cut he doesn't factor into the compensation pick formula for next year. That's why we should be looking at guys like Abraham and Robinson from the Falcons as well.

Knowing he was released we can pick him up before free agency begins. I say we do it! It is a no brainer. Hopefully Ireland does not try and low ball him. This guy will be a great addition, we have the cap space. I hope Ireland gets this done!

They also won't have to pay him 6.5M/year the next 3 years.... and there's no way anyone would trade for him at that price.
Seems obvious KC wants to move Albert to the right side and draft Joeckel.

  24. MrClean

Or, play Joeckel at RT as a rookie, then let Albert go after 2013. and move Joeckel over in his 2nd season. I heard that suggested by Daniel Jeremiah.

So the question is, do you sign him fairly quickly before the Jake Long situation is resolved, and go w/ Martin at LT, or do you wait it out on the chance that Jake comes back down to earth and re-ups with us, but then risk that Winston signs somewhere else in the meantime?

This is why GM's make the big money and get to make the big decisions.

I don't think Jake Long is coming back but what does Ireland think? This is a tough one. If Ireland wants Winston he will have to jump in quickly and get money on the table. I'm glad I don't have to make this decision to be honest.

Long was on NFL Live via phone for an Interview. To me it didn't sound like he was coming back at all, talking about he knows he's gonna' find the right spot etc. The only good thing that I took from the interview was that he said Tannehill was going to be a super star in this league, me likeyyyy

personally would I would rather have Winston at 5 mil per on the right side, J Martin on the left side then Long at 10+ Mil per. I think who ever give Long big money is going to regret it fairly quickly.

This is what good GMs do, make these kinds of calls. Here's a chance for Ireland to show us he's a star GM, instead of the brain-fart many of us think he's been for 5 years. This is his 1st big test this off-season.

We should only target Winston if it's a certainty that Jake Long is a goner.

Even then, I think we have bigger fish to fry than RT. WR1, CB1, CB2, and FS1 to name a few…

The draft is deep for CB and WR in the first 3 rounds. Also I think Winston at 6 mil per year is a better value than Long at 10 mil per year, better value

    SIGN...SIGN...SIGN!

Put Martin at LT and pray he is the answer, and plays better there than at RT. Sign Winston and put him at RT. Long and his payday can hit th bricks.

I believe Winston wouldn't count against us when computing next years compensatory picks either, because he was released as opposed to finishing out his contract.

So signing Winston at $6M as opposed to Long at $10M might also net us a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Jump on him today! Long is a long shot (no pun intended) to come back for money that makes sense. The whole comp pick deal has to be a factor. As another poster said the cut players are the ones we need to target this year, as long as the money is right. If played right we can fill holes and pick up a few 3rd & 4th round comp picks next year.

At Sean Smith's average performance level, it is not a particularly difficult hole to fill and I'm unsure if someone already on the roster cannot do it.
