I would prefer Wallace too and getting Wallace IMO lets the Dolphins be more free with the type of WR they draft. If Jennings is who they go with it would actually cut down that list a bit. I like all of those guys though. I think they all have a chance to be very good and fit in the Dolphins offense.
Hartline comes off, to me, as a guy who will be a total slouch now that he got his big new cushy contract.
I would be the number is higher than that. I doubt his cap hit for year 1 is anywhere near the yearly average. I also think the Dolphins will sign Starks to a longer deal.
Anyone that supports signing Mike Wallace cannot speak of anyone fitting in the offense, as Mike Wallace is hands down the worst fit available in free agency for a timing based passing offense.
more important is the base salary… he gets cut after 3 years he is going to cost the Fins that 12.5 over three (4 mil per). if his base is around 1 mil per for the first three years then you are really getting him for 5 mil per (give or take)
We were at 37.5 before this deal. If he's making the average of the contract this upcoming season, we would be at 31.5. It could be a back loaded contract, though.
Apparently Hartline is the perfect fit for timing based west coast offense. Now that GB is losing Jennings, I wonder if they will call Ireland and steal Hartline.
Good for Brian. Let's hope he gets a good partner to line up opposite of him and get to the end zone this season.
We cannot draft Swope though now. There is a rule against having two white WRs in the game at the same time.
Because he is a friendly ghost. Well we cannot call him The Galloping Ghost. That's reserved for one all time great player. Although, calling him that would be kind of funny in a way. Sort of like calling a short guy by Stretch, or calling a skinny guy Fatso.
Wait, so that's a new forum rule or something? BTW, what are your feelings on signing Mike Wallace? I do not recall your ever saying...
White Lightning for 2013-2014? edit: Just saw lmeister call him this in the other thread.. it's got two representatives.
I kinda hope we don't sign him for a while (if we do)... I mean Hartline is one thing.. Hartline and Fasano in the same week just might cause some people to jump. Better warm up those inflatable cushions under bridges in Miami again.
Oh you mean like your evaluation of Earl Thomas? Only difference is Im willing to give players a chance to fit in to a scheme theyve never been asked to fit in before? Hes never been asked to run the routes he will be asked to run here. Is he a perfect player? No but that doesnt mean he cant work. Hes a better version of a guy like James Jones...
James Jones is actually a very precise route runner. He's also a lot stronger than Wallace....more physical after the catch....better blocker....better hands. I always laugh at the idea that he simply hasn't been asked to do these things. The Steelers coaching staff has spent a lot of time trying to make him a better route runner. Mike Tomlin even made it a point to nick name him "One Trick" hoping that would make him work harder on becoming a more complete receiver. IT NEVER HAPPENED!! He's still a vertical threat that struggles with everything else on the field. He also blocks like Deion Sanders tackles. Much like I warned you how Brandon Marshall would turn out before it happened, I'm doing the same with Mike Wallace. This guy does not fit the west coast offense, and Joe Philbin/Mike Sherman are going to have to limit their pass concepts and route combinations to cater to Mike Wallace's only strength on the field....his speed. Greg Jennings not only is the better, more reliable wide receiver. He's also a much better fit for the offense. Unlike Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings runs precise routes. His cuts are sharp and are run at the appropriate depth. He understands coverages and knows when to alter his routes against certain coverages. There isn't a route in the route tree that Greg Jennings cannot run and run well.
If we end up signing Wallace than I think Philbin believes he'll fit into the offense. I guess that's all that matters.
1. Actually i agreed with you on Marshall. I wanted him to succeed once he was here but i never felt we should have moved what we did for him. 2. Wallace never was actually nicknamed one trick. Tomlin denied ever doing that. 3. You can teach a dog new tricks. Wallace never was asked to play in a more timing based offense. He can learn the routes needed and he'll have to work at his craft but it can be done. 4. Jennings is not a player I want at all. Look at his production. Age and injury are concerns. Unless hes coming here cheap (like 2 years/10m) ill pass. The guy cant even put up numbers with Rodgers the last two years and hes gonna do it here?
Didn't you know? Philbin is going to be on his knees begging for Jennings, but Ireland is going to stomp his foot and shake his finger in Joe's face and say: "No, no, no! You are getting Wallace! That's the way it is and you'll like it!!!"
To be fair , for the FEW that may not know , can you list the plethora of definitive statements you've made over the last several years about players you have been absolutely so dead wrong on ? Also , can you add some sarcasm symbol below your name?
as always when you don't like a player....i think we have all understood by now that you don't like mike wallace in a dolphins uni Sent from my iPhone 5 using Tapatalk
Swiped from twitter: "Over the Dolphins' final 12 games of the season Brian Hartline caught 49 passes for 628 yards and 0 TDs as Miami's #1 WR" "If you extrapolate the numbers from Brian Hartline's last 12 games to a 16 game season, it's identical to Jeremy Kerley."
