http://www.dailynorseman.com/2013/3/7/4077680/trade-percy-harvin-and-sign-mike-wallace The speculation is that Minnesota may be willing to sign Mike Wallace and trade Percy Harvin for a 2nd round pick. Well, Miami has 2 second round picks, and they have a GM that was dead set on drafting Percy Harvin in the 1st round back in 2009. So, if I'm Miami, I'm really amping up my interest in Mike Wallace, hopefully getting Minnesota to up the anty and pay him. Then, I swoop in with a 2nd round pick offer for Harvin and get the deal done. Unlike Wallace, Percy is a fantastic fit for the offense Miami runs. He'd be Randall Cobb on steroids. You can line him up all over the field. He is quick, is the best runner after the catch at this position in the NFL, and is a great route runner.
While I would like to see him in a Fins uni. I have heard that for his new contract he wants a figure per year in between the numbers for Fitzgerald and Megatron, a number like 16.5 million a year. So there is that.
I think Percy Harvin is way too much of a personality issue for the Dolphins to be interested in. I'm sure they would absolutely love him in terms of other issues, though.
Interesting that Percy Harvin was a social and behavioral sciences major and has all of these issues. I think he'd be a great fit schematically. But after Chad Johnson last year, it's hard for me to think that Joe Philbin would want someone like that on the team. People can certainly change, and maybe a change of scenery would do Harvin some good, but I'm skeptical of this happening.
Agreed. But im not sure he will want to give up a 2 when harvin is rumored to be asking for megatron money. Hes basically asking to be the 2nd highest paid wr. Thats gonna drive down the price down and scare off some teams....
So does Mike Wallace: http://blogs.sacbee.com/49ers/archives/2012/03/the-49ers-inquired-about-mike-wallace-but.html
Do you feel Percy can play all 3 WR positions? Or do you feel he is more of a slot/motion/mismatch guy? Also, how do you feel his character issues will mesh with Philbin's philosophies?
Harvin can play all three, line up in the backfield and play special teams. Hell of a talent. Hell of a headache too.
Not sure the money and headache are worth it for a team with so many holes. I can see Harvin going to a team that is just a serious offensive weapon away, whereas, we really don't have any offensive weapons at this point......
How is it that you keep blasting Brandon Marshall for being a bad teammate, but are gung ho for Percy Harvin? Percy Harvin is a far worse teammate than Brandon Marshall was ever imagined.
I have no interest in Harvin. He sounds extremely immature and his contracts demands are crazy. Love his talent but what comes with it isn't worth it
I wouldn't say he is "far worse", but he is definitely just as bad. Different type of bad, but just as bad.
Marshall was not nearly what a certain segment of this board portrays him as; conversely, Harvin is worse than is portrayed.
I like Harvin, but when I see this highlight, I think Tavon Austin, and how much easier - and cheaper - it would be to acquire him.
Well, Reggie can do some of that, but he's likely gone. While I like the idea of Harvin in this offense, I heard on NFL radio that he's looking for more money than Wallace - wants to be the #3 paid WR in the league. 14-16 million. the last part is laughable.
Easy now. Anytime you point a finger at somebody, you have four pointing back at yourself......just saying. I have no idea what people in here have portrayed Marshall out as. I wasn't around for that, but I think that earlier in his career, he was about as bad a team-mate as you could have. I think that changed to some extent, but I also know that throwing the ball at the opposing team during a game is out of control.... Percy Harvin, for all indications, is a bona-fide A$$-hat.
Yep, I think letting Bush walk is going to be a very very bad mistake in the long runs...and even in the short runs (Anybody see what I did there?)
I agree with the theory that Harvin fits this offense like a glove and better than other WRs avaiilable but I doubt Philbin will want to add another distraction. Having said that I think he would be less of a problem than Marshall was .BM was openly critical of coaching and teamates and wanted the ball thrown to him all of the time .He was disruptive to the team both on and off the field. In comparison Harvin is not a selfish player,he is a good teamate and only is a problem sporadically.Apparently he has overcome his migraine problems. I would to love to see him in this offense.
Harvin's a prima donna and he has been ever since he was at UF. Urban did him no favors by bowing to his every whim. I hope we stay as far away as possible.
Truth is, I LAMBASTED all those saying Bush would be the next "Better than Barry Sanders" when he came out, and I actually hoped the Jests would trade EVERYTHING to move up 2 spots to get him in that draft. We all know it didn't work out that way..... That being said, I think he could be the key part of us being successful or not this season regardless of who we bring in at WR. He does sooooo many things well and contributes on just about every play. Lamar Miller will not be able to fill the void.....and we will struggle, especially early on because of it.
It has nothing to do with finger pointing, nor are we discussing ancient history here. KB blasted Brandon Marshall as recently as last week.
I agree. We are a team lamenting the lack of playmakers with $30+ million in cap space and we are unwilling to use $4 million of that space to keep our best playmaker (and who appears to be one of our hardest workers and best leaders). Seems very short-sighted.
And you are blasting KB as recently as within the last hour. I personally don't see the difference or the point....but that's just me.
I would give up a two for Harvin. He's worth rolling the dice on, provided he's willing to agree to a reasonable, incentive laden deal.
Youre assuming Bush would take a 4 mill deal without even testing the market to see if he could get more elsewhere. I'd call that pretty shortsighted as well.
I'd rather have Jennings over Wallace. But I'd rather have Wallace over Harvin. Not based on talent, but based on potential headaches.
And, I would say that calling somebody out, without any knowledge to the contrary is very shortsighted
It's not short-sighted, it's an estimate. Obviously, we don't know what he'll get. and I didn't say anything about his not testing the market. But knowledgeable people who have made estimates of what Bush will get have put it as 4 yrs, $14-16 million. Reggie publicly said he wanted to stay with the Dolphins and it was widely reported that he was disappointed and "confused" that they didn't make him a meaningful offer, so there is (or was) reason to think he could have been signed before free agency.
