I am surprised, in a good way, to see how many don't want Harvin here. We are not to the point where we need to pay someone $16,000,000. per year, ESPECIALLY when they bring that much baggage with them. We have to many holes to fill. Lets draft to fill our needs and THEN pay someone to fill that last spot when we get close.
How? When has Percy ever thrown his quarterback under the bus the way Brandon Marshall did Kyle Orton, and Chad Henne, and Matt Moore? When has Percy openly pouted because he wasn't getting enough passes thrown his way? When has Percy ever been a detriment to his team on the field because he wants the quarterback to force the ball to him? The only thing with Tavon is that while he has Harvin's quicks, he doesn't come close to having Harvin's power and physicality. Because of that, I think Austin is going to have a harder time when he has to play on the perimeter as opposed to the slot. That's what I've seen. That's the difference between Harvin and Marshall. Brandon Marshall is all about himself. He's one of the most selfish players in the NFL. Percy Harvin has never been a selfish player. He's never demanded that the majority of targeted passes be towards him. The fact of the matter is this though. Harvin has a lot more effect on the game than Marshall does, and the reason is because he can do more than be just a receiver. He can line up in the backfield as a running back. He is the most dangerous return man in football. What he's done in the NFL, along with what Randall Cobb did this past year are the biggest reasons teams are going to be all over Cordarrelle Patterson and Tavon Austin in this draft. Personally, I'm a Tavon Austin convert. I was skeptical at first, but the more I've watched him, the more I can see some Harvin/Cobb potential. I'm still a little concerned over the lack of size and whether that will effect his ability to transition to the outside, but he can effect the game in so many ways. It doesn't seem too short sighted when his negative runs outweigh his big plays. The fact of the matter is, Reggie is not a zone runner, and that's the philosophy the Dolphins want to use in the running game.
Wait, Mike Wallace wants more money than Larry Fitzgerald? C'mon son. As for Harvin, I like him a lot but he seems to be a headcase and he seems to have injury issues. I wouldn't be upset if we did trade for him though. He's electric.
assuming Harvin's contract demands are posturing (giving him the benefit of the doubt) and that he might come down, what would you be willing to pay for the guy. personally, I don't even think Calvin Johnson is worth Calvin Johnson money. and given a lot of the statements you made last year on the real value of WRs, I'd be surprised if you were willing to meet Harvin's contract demands.
The numbers that have been tossed out there for Mike Wallace. 5 years, $60 million. That's what I'd be willing to go to with Percy. Percy is that much better than Wallace.
man if we sign a guy like Harvin we would be better off bring back Chambers he is more durable the Harvin because Harvin missses so many games that he would not be a upgrade.
If by sporadic you mean being a pain in the arse at every level and team he's played for then yes, it's been sporadic
If it's the same deal I'd rather have that 2nd and Wallace. When has Harvin thrown his QB under the bus? He was too busy throwing weights at his effing coach! You criticize Wallace endlessly about his holdout and Harvin's camp is hinting he'll do the same, unless he gets almost Calvin Johnson Money http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--mike-wallace-in--percy-harvin-out-for-vikes--032959743.html I like Percy Harvin and I don't know if it's scheme/QB but he's a talented athlete who hasn't had a prolific season. His best season 2012 with 950 yards receiving and 300 yards rushing. It's a damn good season. But guy wants higher than Bowe money. Plus it'll cost a 2nd? Forget it.
Tell you what, if we can find a way to keep Reggie Bush and add Percy Harvin OR sign Mike Wallace to some ridiculous contract, I'm going with option A. Two is better than one.
I tell you what, you throw a weight at someone, you're lucky they don't come over there and kick your ***. Thats what should have happened.
One thing is for sure, if Minnesota does sign Wallace you better believe they're going to have a problem with Harvin. If he got upset that Aaron Hernandez got a new contract after his second year, how is he going to feel being the second highest paid receiver on his own team? No way he'll deal with that. He'll be throwing weights at everyone in the building
Don't you know Bush isn't a fit for this offense? KB said so. For me the problem with Harvin isn't his ability or whether he is a fit or not. The problem is between his ears. The problem is the chronic migraines and his blow up with Frazier. Those are both giant red flags.
Harvin might be bigger than Tavon Austin..... but Austin will cost only $10 million and has great potential as a receiver. At Harvin's asking price (including a 2nd rounder) we could sign Jennings or Wallace and draft Tavon.
I think the key is that IF we could keep Bush, and bring in ANY big playmaker that's a huge deal. Sign me up for some of that *Just don't make it Harvin. Kid has Prima-Donna for a tramp stamp me thinks. I don't know that for certain...but me thinks....
Hard to argue against that. what if we take it one step further: would anyone be okay with the scenario of trading our 1st rounder for a lower 1st and a 2nd rounder, then trading the 1st rounder for Victor Cruz who would also command about the same money? I'd argue Cruz > Harvin > Wallace.
from that same scenario and cost we could sign Wallace and trade back and take Tavon Austin for the slot instead. Wallace & Austin > Cruz IMO.
You are not taking into account the scheme change that will need to be made to accommodate Wallace though.
Hide yo receivers. Hide yo quarterbacks. Hide yo coaches. They're throwing weights at errbuddy up in here.
I could see him going anywhere between 12th & 20th. Tampa at 13 could gobble him up to finish the offense they started last year. Jackson, Williams, and Austin... with Doug Martin. wow. Carolina at 14 could use his services. Dallas at 18.... grouping him with Dez, Miles, and Witten. They've got s*** at receiver behind those 2. Plus we know Jones loves the flashiness. Chicago at 20 could round out an impressive trio of Marshall, Jeffery, and Austin.
I'm not really a Wallace fan, nor am I really a Harvin fan, but a combination of Harvin and Bush on the field at the same time? That's intriguing.
Percy Harvin is headache-free. The Minnesota Vikings receiver hasn't had one of his debilitating migraines in five or six months, he said Friday. "This is the best I've felt, probably, since I've been in kindergarten," he said. The Landstown High School graduate has spent the NFL lockout mostly in Gainesville, Fla., where he's been working out preparing for his third pro season. Blissfully absent have been the chronic migraines that caused him to miss two games and dozens of practices last season. Harvin was reluctant to go into much detail, but is cautiously optimistic he's found long-term relief from a health issue that has dogged him since childhood. "I met a couple of doctors," he said. "There were a couple of things they found in my neck that I won't get into - some things they found and fixed, along with diet and the rest of the things that can cause them. "It's been great, and knock on wood, it'll continue." http://hamptonroads.com/2011/06/percy-harvin-chesapeake-migraines-may-be-history
I don't think they plan on keeping bush I wish we did keep him but it seems there going to let him walk
See the problem here? 1. Miami runs a zone running scheme based around the inside zone and outside zone. This running scheme requires the running back to be a downhill runner and decisive, neither of which is a strength of Reggie Bush. Reggie Bush likes to go east/west looking for the big play. He doesn't stick his foot in the ground, make a cut, and get going downhill. Instead, he dances and moves laterally behind the line of scrimmage. As a result, he has more negative runs than he does big plays. 2. Miami's passing offense is a timing based passing offense. It is based around the quarterback and receiver being on the same page. The receivers have to run precise routes because their route in any given concept is directly tied to the quarterback's drop, whether it is a 3 step or a 5 step drop. Precision route running is not a strength of Mike Wallace. 3 Dolphins fan point of view = "They make big plays. We should sign them." The flaw here is that you are ignoring scheme fit, and you are also ignoring the other external factors that contribute to those big plays. For example, you ignore the fact that Ben Roethlisberger is a big reason for Mike Wallace's big plays in the passing game.
I don't think I have ever said bush is a every down NFL back and losing him makes perfect sense if you cant get him at the right cap number but bush has a place on any team in the NFL as a 3rd down passing back and hybrid slot wr/kr/pr. Also I'm not as high on Wallace as you seem to think I am I would still rather have B Marshall on this team or draft a wr with the 12 pick over dropping 12 mil a year on him.
I love Harvin as a player, but he is notorious for being a problem child. Before the issues he had with his coaches in Minny there were reports of him being a problem at UF. I also believe the rumors that he's seeking a deal in the Fitz range. Given all of that I'd prefer to draft Austin a little too high. (I'd still want to pair him with Jennings and Hartline).
Get a guy like Bennett, get the two West Va kids at wr, and address OL and cb as well in the draft. If you don't get a tight end in free agency, you draft one with at least one of the good receivers. The Cincy tight end Kelce with Austin maybe.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Harvin is one of those guys that can be productive in any offense with any QB. I'd love to see him in a Phins uniform.
