I find it hilarious how other team sites such as the bucs, pats, Philly and kc are gushing for this dude! They rave about his press game and how he matches up against the big Wr's. I remember smith tweeting during the playoffs or something I think the Seahawks maybe, anyways he was like "man it must be nice to be able to play your own scheme at corner and press and added "one day, sigh". I have a question for you guys, I keep hearing that we want to play press but played a lot One last year?? Im a bit confused by that, and oh yeah, please don't hang me for bringing up Sean smith. I know how much the fin nation hates and blames him for anything.

But I will say this, since he is only 25 years young it would be a shame if he went to the pats or another team and just finally blossom into what we Seen in his first or second years when he graded out very high for the cb position. Adam shef is saying that he's price range is in the 7- 7.5 area. Don't think he's asking to much, Anyways thoughts?

For a guy who has mediocre ball skills and cant create TO's it too much. For a guy that allowed almost a 71% completion % against and tied for 5th in TD allowed (6) 7-7.5M is overpaying. It might be what the market calls for but I wouldnt want to be the team giving him that for a 3-4 year (or more) deal when 2 years in hes going to be a cut candidate imo. His physical skillset is appealing but mentally im not sure hes there. Plus Ive been reading we want to play more zone where he doesnt fare well....

I'm glad Jonthan Banks tested like crap, so maybe we can get him in the second round, where we got Sean, and replace Sean.

Sean is a decent corner, and may even be worth the $7m, but I don;t like his attitude. The sense I get from the guy is that he's looking forward to leaving Miami and that rubs me wrong.

Back to zone and some quarters, Kiss of death. :pity:
You're right though. Smith is in a bad place with his development. He'll have to grow up.
Pains me to say it. I had hope for Sean. Top CB on the market?

Yeah I guess, but aren't slot corners pay rate like 6 mill a year (cough, Marshall, Patterson) so smiths dens of 7 mill really isn't that bad at all. In no way am I defending him to stay especially if we can get proven talent like grimes, drc, and cox, but like I said before. I just hope he doesn't go loff to another team and ball! IIf he does, I'd be happy for him. But thank god for Kevin coyle, the secondary guru. It's been Said .that he likes to mold he's own corners,

Sean Smith is a very good press corner but I doubt we offer enough to keep him. The press man teams are going to value him more and we will be looking for a guy who is more versatile.

Zone is fine if you have CB's with ball skills and can cover in space. Guys like Sam Shields are excellent in this (and I bring up Shields because Philbins desire to play more zone probably stems from what GB does)

Top CB on the market....IMO Grimes.

Interesting thought I just had...what about signing Marcus Trufant as a dime CB and drafting his brother Desmond on a trade down in round 1? Could be a nice solution....dump Marshall add in Grimes and youre left with Grimes-Desmond Trufant-Patterson-Marcus Trufant....

Patterson makes like 4.5ish. Marshall should never have gotten what he got unless we intended to play him at FS where his metrics were excellent in Arizona. If Smith goes somewhere else and blows up good for him but it doesnt seem to be happening for him here.

Can't wait for that show to come back.

It doesn't surprise me to see other fans getting excited for Smith. They don't watch him play every game. They see he's young, big, and has talent. They don't see the inconsistent play. I don't think he's worth the money he's probably going to get, but it wouldn't be a total shock if he put it together on his next team.

He did very well taking retreads and rejects and turning around their careers. More with safeties though.

He has been pretty effective against bigger WRs. problem is our main rival is New England, so Smith is as useless as the poopy flavored lollipop against them.

I'm sort of tired of watching this franchise drafting young talent and then allowing it to walk away after they wrap up their first contract. So in that regard I hope that we can keep Smith around a bit longer.

That said, he's certainly moving into the dreaded D word category in terms of attitude, so I don't know if bringing him back is the right move. Yes he's a great match-up for us, especially against New England, but he's still prone to immaturity and lacks big play ability. Essentially I think he tries to get by taking shortcuts and doesn't buy into scheme, which is why he sometimes finds himself out of position and gives up big plays.

Personally I'd let him walk. Cornerbacks his size are rare, but at the same time I don't think he's irreplaceable to this team.

I think he's grown up and shown a pretty good work ethic over the past two years. If he could hold onto half of those dropped interceptions, Miami fans would be begging for him to return.

We may. Changing to more of a zone scheme would fit a corner like Porter.

For the same reason that phins fans gush over some other teams FAs when their message boards are "WTF why would anybody else want him?"

Fans rate players from other teams based on their highlight reel and measurables. Fans rate their own players based on how they play for the whole season.

It's easy to get a hard on for a girl where you get to see her glamour shots, but when you have to wake up next to her every morning things change.

Smith can go. I wish him well, but I won't miss him. Remember that pick against the Saints in his rookie preseason? I really thought we had something at that point. Now after watching him the last few seasons I have to wonder if he had just eaten a honey sandwich or something. He must have been a horrible receiver!

He won't get "paid" in New England. I bet he will go to Arizona and sink into obscurity.
