Considering the options on the table I don't think the idea of starting Steinbach was all that unreasonable.
They signed him the same reason they signed the other players on the roster, to play football. There is no such thing as a player on a roster who is not there to play football. There is no starting basket weaving position.
Why do you think he was signed? To hold Philbin's hand in his first oh so difficult year as a head coach?
I'd rather get another OT cheaper than Long - I just don't think Long is going to be a great LT anymore. He was not that injured last year and he was mediocre. I don't think a 2nd year Martin will be any worse than Long was last year. But, one could be wrong about that, of course! I'd prefer to spend & draft other positions that need serious upgrade.
Bull****. You don't know that. You can't prove that. You're basically just making things up you think should be true.
So you have no clue. Just throwing crap against the wall. I cannot understand why even the most loyal Ireland or Philbin supporter would defend the signing of Steinbach.
I have as much clue as you do. I'm not defending the signing. I'm saying that its not like hurt us or affected us, and that the familiarity between him and Philbin was probably the ONLY reason he was signed. That would tell me was signed for other reasons than to be a player.
Who the **** cares about Steinbach? They thought he'd be a cheap alternative that Philbin was already familiar with. So they tried to save some money and turn a cheaply signed player into a patch and it didn't work. BFD it happens on teams every season.
IMO, it is ludicrous to think any player would be signed for a reason other than to play, with the exception of those 1 day sign and retire offseason contracts guys like recently Jeff Saturday sign with their original team. I'd guess they thought Steinbach had a little left in the tank, but a short time in training camp showed that he didn't.
Oh ok. As long as you think its ludicrous than clearly I'm wrong. I guess we didn't trade Vontae, because you thought that was ludicrous too.
Huh? Do you think I'm comparing Steinbach to Vontae? Really? I'm just saying whether MrClean thinks something is ludicrous or not has no bearing on that something having happened or not.
I'm expressing my opinion, same as you or anyone else does. What the fk is your problem this morning? Someone piss in your cheerios?
Um yeah, you might want to go back a few posts to see where the attitude started, here's a hint, it wasn't me.
I said, IMO (In My Opinion), it is ludicrous to think a player was signed for any reason except to play. Then you come back with a smart *** comment about the Vontae must not have happened because I think that was ludicrous too. Apparently you had some problem with me expressing my opinion.
Which was all brought about by your suggesting there could possibly be another reason for a football team signing a football player than to play football.
Well if we were interested last year but his price was to high then, this might be a situation where we let him go for the year and now his price has dropped yet your still getting the same player you were interested in, just at a lower price.
Yep, market for Oline is completely flooded this year, including the draft. Next year is a different story althogether, will be slim pickins for Oline and the price will then go up. Said it before and will say it again. If a team is in the market for Oline this year is a buyers market. Not only is there plenty available there is also plenty of quality out there in FA and the draft. I would have to say if Miami and Jake decide to really call it quits we should hear we signed Winston no later then Thursday. If Miami truly wants to move on from Jake, which I doubt, then we may hear we signed Winston on Wed.
He visited with the Chargers over the weekend... Eagles and Texans also mentioned of interest. Dolphins not mentioned in the article. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/12/eric-winston-visited-chargers-over-the-weekend/
