"even if" was the operative part of what I said. Meaning...even if that's all Wallace can do, we'll be a better offense.

I don't think he'll make us the best we can be because he is limited, but we'll certainly be better.

Philbin has flat out stated before that this is the nature of their conversations and that he doesn't talk numbers with Jeff Ireland to even the slightest degree.

I am guessing maybe you are referring to a trade as a possible way to obtain that, like the two guys from Oakland?

Talking "numbers" (contract $$$?) and talking skillsets/player philosophies are 2 totally different things, no?

I think Miami gets Wallace. There will be pros and cons to that. I can live with them. However, I am more interested in how they address the OL, CB, and TE.

    Or the Draft.

For example, the moment Cordarrelle Patterson steps on the field, defenses are going to respect him deep. They know he's got 4.3 speed at 6'2" and 216 lbs. Marquise Goodwin the same thing. They know he runs potentially faster than any player in the NFL (if not NFL history). They MAY afford the same respect to Justin Hunter because he's 6'4" and runs 4.40 and teams will not forget that prior to his ACL injury he was a vertical threat every time he stepped on the field. Maybe Markus Wheaton although they may want him to prove he can get off the press without widening his track a la Clyde Gates.

So we then can assume that Philbin wants a skillset like Wallace, but Ireland's decision to overpay for that skillset is obviously the reason for some folks concern..

I can understand that, but I've got a feeling that dawn aponte and Ireland will not let it get us into a precarious cap situation,

I still think fans get too caught up in the money. I've never payed attention to how much a player is making because I couldn't care less. Players usually get more than they're worth, that's nothing new.

Mike Wallace is probably not worth what he's asking, but he would be an extremely valuable addition to an offense in desperate need of a diamond. So I'm not going to turn away from him because he'll be getting paid too much. Most players are.

I don't want to get cute here. Supreme talent is available and we need to go out and get it.

Mike Wallace is a talent, but he's not a supreme talent IMO. Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones, AJ Green, Victor Cruz...those are supreme talents IMO.

I am still skeptical of Patterson and Goodwin. Justin Hunter I like a little more. I understand the 13 million dollar price tag, and I know you know your football. But the front office is addressing this from PR perspective, the need to be preceived as a desirable place to play etc. Do I care about that? Not really. But I do believe for better or worse, Wallace will come in. We can only hope he justifies at least part of his salary. And much like KB, I don't normally pull for Ole Miss Rebels, being a Southern Ms grad and Georgia grad. I have no dog in the show so to speak. I can take him or leave him.

Actually, the bears deep threats are Johnny Knox and devin Hester, not Brandon Marshall. They had to use BM that way due to injuries. With both those receivers out, the bears look drastically different then they intended to look.

Fair enough, but my view still remains that we need to get better despite the cost.

If he brings 32 TDs in the next 4 years will anyone care? just him personally. If he does that, does that not open up the field for Miller to run withour 8 men in the box. Allow Hartline, Bess, whatever Rookie WR, and TEs we rbing in to work on an island versus players not as good? Does this not make teams just a little more nervous to blitz because one on one he is going to burn anyone? I think answering yes to any of these makes you realize that he is worth alot of money. I think Pittsburgh is going to suffer without him in their lineup. Look at the one game they played last year without him, they were terrible on offense and were lucky they were playing the Browns.

I just don't think it's up to the fan to make moral determinations, and therefore, make your on field evaluation based on them.

Trust me, there have been great presidents, and leaders that have been terrible human beings.

Not true. It's "paid attention".... and "couldn't care less" is a double negative. :shifty:

This isn't the argument of the thread at all, but just compelled me to respond. Victor Cruz is not in that class. He isn't a supreme talent in my opinion.

Vikings just created more cap room...

The Greg Jennings to Miami watch is officially on as the Vikes will try to break the bank to get Wallace.

I honestly dont think this has anything at all to do with Minnesota and Wallace.....the Winfield cut. It has more to do with Winfield not taking a pay cut...

They do have 2 1st rd picks so it would basically be a Harvin for Cruz and a 1st 3 team baseball trade.

It would make sense to me, their spot in the 1st round is pretty palatable to give up for Cruz, especially after picking up Seattle's 1. From their point of view it would be Harvin for Cruz straight up, while picking up two mid to low picks for the trouble of moving 2 spots down in the first.

You're gambling on the Giants not matching but I'd take that deal.

The Vikings did just resign Simpson, and want to resign Loadholt, and are rumored to be going to sign Jennings, so all those things could play into the Winfield cut.

Simon is saying the same. I hate to say it, especially before the ink dries, but if we can grab those two AND grab 3-4 contributors in the draft we are going to be a serious problem next year.
