That's when the cap is no longer flat though. Might be workable long term, sign more now when they are cheaper, less later. I guess it depends on how much the cap jumps.

Why? We could use a sturdy/Pro Bowl caliber guard and we don't have a right tackle on the roster worth damn.

We can add Wallace, Jennings, Fitzgerald, Wes Welker and Jared Cook....they are all useless if Tannehill spends his time looking up at the sky after a sack or running for his life.

If this team was smart, really smart, they would march him out there and have him in something with the new logo on it. they signed the big fish and will be all over ESPN today. Nothing will get this much national exposure until they start playing games.

Now 12 goes to whoever the best player is standing at the spot. Jonthan Cooper or Lane Johnson would be amazing fits to this team. Titans now that they took Levitre probably won't go guard.

His contract is probably curbed so that it will inevitably take the share that Dansby is making now, just a few years down the line. To me, this makes CB or Ogletree priority in the first round.

i understand the cap talk but the cap will increase, plus it is more likely than not that the contract gets restructured somewhere down the road.

I 100% agree with this. The smartest thing they could do right now is put him in front of people wearing that new logo. It would be a HUGE positive PR move for the dolphins and its exactly what fans want.

Because eventually you need to quit drafting Oline in the first round and actually get some playmakers. It's not like we cant go Oline later on in draft also. I just want some game changers, on offense and defense. Oline is just not a sexy pick when its where you keep going in the top rounds. Martin, Long, Pouncey.... Long prob gone. I see other teams go later in rounds, just want to see us mix it up. Thats 3 high picks on oline, our line should be awesome, yet its not.

So if he scores 32 tds in the next 4 years are you going to be mad about this deal? When we can drop him the last year if we choose? We need to spend money on someone. Dansby will be off the books and the salary cap is going to rise over the next few years. Its alot but to get someone who can hopefully open our offense up I think it was needed.

It is not about landing marquee guys, but instead the RIGHT guys. Who cares what ESPN, etc says we need and do not need; oftentimes the press does not know their hand from their butt and are just looking for a story.

Imo, we will rue the day we caved into pressure to appease the casuals (fans) and press with this guy. Such a deep draft class and you spend 12m per year on Mike Wallace...Our OLine was largely horrible last year in both facets of the game and they do not sniff at Levitre?

Oh, don't get me wrong. It's not all bad. This is a great day, in many regards, but we will have to be especially prudent around the cap overt the ensuing years. We certainly won;t be taking this approach every offseason.

I think, in some ways, Ireland earned this spending spree precisely BY being prudent up til now. Sometimes, you gotta spend. :)

That does not mean you give up on the position, considering if the position is terrible you can have all the playmakers you want, they will mean absolutely nothing.

The offensive line has a MASSIVE hole right now. We have no right tackle and our left tackle (as of now) is a question mark. the only "set" position as it stands, IMO, is center.

Bite your tongue sir! We are taking Tavon Austin at 12. We'll have our most formidable pass game since the early 90s. Me and my adopted son Phinsational have deemed it so. Tavon at 12.

I doubt Joe Philbin was consulted much on the scheme fit with this signing, because it is easy to tell that Mike Wallace is a poor fit for a timing based offense. I just hope they can get someone to take this contract off their hands in 2 years.

From when he signs the contract at 6pm to whenever he leaves us, he's a Dolphin. Whether he plays great or not, no-one can 100% forecast, so until he leaves he gets my support the same as any other Dolphin.

And I'm sure Philbin is even now working out what he can do with his new toy.

That is a good question. I hope he takes an "80's" number. I dislike seeing receivers wearing numbers in the teens.

    Incognito? Meh.

Even if I give you that one, do you not think the offensive line needs some talent/help? Would you not agree it is kind of important?

i doubt anyone was going to go guard before us…

personally, I dont have a problem with OL in the first as I believe the game is won there… would like to see how they address CB, TE and pass rusher via FA before I form an opinion as to who they should take in the first.

I agree it has a massive hole, but we have thrown 3 high picks at it over the past few years and still have crap to show for it. Maybe we need to change things up. You can still go oline later in draft, it doesn't have to be solved in first round. The best playmakers always go in the first round, then some hidden gems get found in later rounds. I wouldnt have an issue with them drafting 2-4 players on the oline, but we need weapons also or the qb can have all year to find nobody who is open. Just want a balanced mix.

I don;t buy that for a second, Keith. Philbin and Ireland say they work in very close consultation on personnel.

There is no reason to think Philbin isn't 100% on board with this.

Not with a guy who the consensus believes only cares about money...

I may turn out to be wrong in the end and will admit if so, but I think the cost/benefit analysis or value of signing this particular guy to that much money does not make sense in my mind...

Im sure they talked about the signing of one of the biggest free agents with their head coach. Maybe he hasn't done certain things in the past but that doesn't mean he won't be able to in the future. Just being able to take the top off a defense is huge, DC are going to have to game plan for him every week and he will make safety's play it safe and open the field for everyone else.

Do you seriously think Joe Philbin is all about paying a one trick pony $13 million a season? Because you know what this contract says? It says that they have to feed the ball to Wallace in an attempt to justify the contract. Some of the naive on here think that the philosophy will stay the same and that Philbin won't cave to the pressure.
