Yet that timing based offense took a massive step in reverse when we made Tannehill a statue in the pocket.. Perhaps Philbin has other ideas on how to use his mobile QB, much like the rest of the NFL has adopted. If Harbaugh could adapt on the fly and play to the strengths of Kaepernick, why is it so mind bending to assume that the coaching staff and the FO may adapt their strategy with Tannehill and roll him out more and give him space to make plays outside of their set formations?
Because we have been shown Philbin has had zero to do with personnel moves since he got here, right? This one just happened to go over regardless of his input? Come on bro.
One track mind… lol Does it ever occur to you that Joe Philbin may know more about football than you do?
Fine....what ever. My point is...your making statements as though youve consulted an oracle and they are written on some clay tablet some where. I understand your feelings on the issue. My only problem is how youve seemed to demean anyone who is actually happy and excited about this signing. We arent casual fans....we are here pretty much every day. Our offense will improve this season...thats a good thing. How much remains to be seen....but...damn...dont rain on anyones day.
honestly answer us what leeway Philbin earned last year this so called offensive guru had us having our worst total offense since 2007 you guys remember that year we won 1 game
I can't speak to how Philbin is rationlizing it, but I doubt Ireland does this with Philbin being less than fully on board.
When you count the extra receptions, yards, and TDs that we get from Hartline, Bess, Miller, and Cook (?) the value of Walllace increases, how do you give a tangible number on that value?
I myself know that fans will expect the ball to be fed to him because of the contract. I think he was payed for what he can do, he does it very well. He demands extra coverage and can take a 5y catch to the house. If he does what he did the first 4 years in Pitts and continue it here, i will be happy. Philbin must see something more in him to want him this badly, lets see how it all plays out. Then we can be happy, or ***** about how dumb Ireland was lol.
Glad to see that Ireland finally did what was necessary to upgrade the WR position. I guess those reports that Philbin wasn't that high on Jennings must have been right after all. Last year he didn't want to overpay for Flynn and he obviously thinks Wallace will do much more for the offense than Jennings. I agree.
If i was Philbin, and I'm not, I would have Tannehill throw to the open receiver, not the one with the biggest $ on his jersey. I'm not sure how Philbin will do it though.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Tannehill is no Henne. Henne zoned in to Marshall and it hurt the team. Tannehill is properly coached and mentored and has a far better understanding of the pocket and where his balls need to go. This is going to be great, especially with the rapport he has already built with Hartline.
How Tannehill is used has nothing to do with limiting what you can do from the X receiver position to nothing but vertical stretches and all but eliminating the timing aspect of the offense based on the contract you just gave to a one trick pony.
YES!!!!! It's so nice to see something we've been talking about since October come true. Now, let's keep it going!
Half of your argument around this signing is that it is being forced on Philbin. Are you accepting the possibility that Tannehill may be used differently going forward, thus disproving the theory that Philbin is locked in to a specific style of offense that won't adapt to Tannehill's mobility?
You are talking about a GM that went behind his head coach's back and and accompanied the owner on his trip to court Jim Harbaugh. Basically, if Ross wanted Wallace, that's what Ireland was going to do.
In a bid that quite possibly would have Miami hoisting a Super Bowl trophy in 5 years. After 35 years of ineptitude. I would say Ross made the right move with Ireland to upgrade the coaching position from the wreck that Sparano and Parcells left here. It failed. But I would make that move 1000 out of 1000 times if there was even a 10% chance of us landing Harbaugh. It was the right move then, and it has been proven to be the right move 2 years later. To make that jump and then infer that Ireland disregards and cares less about Philbin, who did a phenomenal job coaching and mentoring the team last year, isn't based in anything factual.
This idea that he will change the coverages the team faces is such an overrated aspect. I'm still waiting to see a quantity that applies to the value that brings. Aaron Rodgers is mobile as well, so the quarterback's mobility has absolutely nothing to do with the system Philbin brought here from the Packers. From a receiver standpoint, it has EVERYTHING to do about precise route running, interchangeability, and complete route trees that bring diversity to the passing game. Now, instead of diversity, we have an overpriced deep threat that doesn't do much of anything else on the field. Wait till you see his half assed attempts at blocking.
I just watched a 4:30 minute highlight video of Wallace that was at least 70% slant routes....I'm sure you know more than me but, isn't that a timing route?
Wouldn't a seam busting TE mitigate this, assuming that Wallace can't catch in the middle of the field?
I feel like I just married the flashiest available gal with a reputation of a one trick pony in bed and not the best with her hands when it counts. Oh had to promise a $65 million pre-nup too. So: cautiously hopeful
Didnt Rice make a living on Slant routes? Yes before you say he ran all routes I know that. The slant was his bread and butter.
There's a difference between agreeing with his opinion and valuing/respecting his opinion... KB is quite knowledgable about the game... although I disagree with him on this topic.
No. You have to zone in on him to keep him happy, or else he is a tremendous problem in the locker room.
Truthfully, I wasn't impressed with Wallace at all. Didn't see one jaw-dropper in the whole video, and precise routes weren't in abundance, but what I did notice was his strong suit was bailing out Big Ben when the QB had to scramble for time....THAT is where he is going to earn his money ...clearing out the coverage for the underneath guys to work and taking the top off the D are about as much as we can expect. But that's somethig we NEED.
