I'm prob on an island here but I'd like us to take a look at Tebow when he's cut. Could be very interesting strictly at a TE/HB kind of role.

He can be Miami's Bobby Boucher. Legitimate upside for that role.

Well we already have Fasano for that. He's the italian version.

Here's a question, can we transition tag more than one player at once or possibly tag one then trade him and tag another?

You know, he probably should be the top option. It should say a lot that of the so called big three receivers that are available this offseason, Bowe is the only one his current team is making a major push to resign.

True but his history of effort isn't exactly impressive.

I agree, if Tebow would agree to play those roles only. I wonder if he still thinks he has a chance to be an NFL QB.

I've mentioned him several times before but I really like the Giants' Domenik Hixon as a mid level free agent, especially as a cheaper replacement for Brian Hartline.

He will definitely be leaving the Giants because they have Nicks, are trying to get Cruz back, and drafted Reuben Randle. They're hard up against the cap and have to allow a guy like Hixon to leave even though ultimately I don't think they'd like to.

Hixon can do everything we ask Brian Hartline to do, everything the Green Bay receivers did on the perimeter for Joe Philbin prior to Miami. He's taken a little time to come into his own IMO because of his background in college playing both defense and offense at different points. Also, he's taken some time due to injuries.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend he's a star in this league. I think he's reminiscent of Brian Hartline in a lot of ways. He makes people miss more often than Hartline but he doesn't physically break tackles after the catch. This is evidenced by the fact that he's created 12 missed tackles on 103 catches since 2008, whereas Hartline's created 6 missed tackles on 183 catches, but his 3.9 yards after catch average doesn't even compare favorably to Hartline's 4.0 yards after catch average. He does create more RAC on passes that go 9 yards or less down the field (4.8 vs. 4.0). And he's become a good sidelines specialist with the body control to separate at the last minute for the ball, much like Hartline.

One difference though (aside from the asking price) is that Hixon has true 4.39 speed as measured at his pro day, and you can see it on the field as he's able to get open vertically against a lot of different corners. And for you touchdown people he's got 6 touchdowns on those 103 catches as opposed to Hartline's 6 touchdowns on 183 catches.

I just think that the availability of a Domenik Hixon really highlights why you don't pay a Brian Hartline that much money. If he had the same opportunities as Hartline did in 2012, he would have produced just as well, if not better IMO. The tape doesn't lie. Watch the coaches tape as I have and tell me the guy doesn't have the same knack for getting open against man coverage, toe tapping the sideline, making his body available as a target for the quarterback, etc. Watching his tape was scarily reminiscent of when I was putting together all that tape of Hartline from 2011 to show people why it would be foolish to cut Hartline heading into 2012 simply because he was having some health issues. In both cases, all either player needed to be a lot more productive was more opportunities. In Hixon's case, his injury history is a lot more extensive and I understand that. It's a drawback. But if he's looking at half the contract value of a Brian Hartline, I'm comfortable with that, considering I'm already doing other things at the position.

If I'm in charge, I think my plan of attack at the position would start to solidify to where I allow Hartline to go off to a high bidder (if indeed one appears), I trade something small for Miles Austin since the Cowboys are looking at cutting him for cap relief anyway, I make a genuine attempt at pulling in Domenik Hixon in free agency, and then I look at drafting two players from this deep group of receivers.

The only reason I leave Greg Jennings out of that plan is because I think he and Miles Austin are more of an either-or situation, and right now we don't know how much Jennings will cost on the free agent market. There's a scary $14 million number floating around out there which stinks of rival agents trying to put untrue information out there, but it also could be true for all we know. I'm not comfortable paying Jennings any more money than Anquan Boldin got with his new deal in Baltimore.

I like Hixon, my major concern with him is injuries, he always seems to be hurt.

Which is so weird because in college he was Mr. Durability. Played a bunch of different ways and never missed a single game in his entire college career.

But I'm serious about the tape. Watch his 2012 tape and tell me it's not eerily reminiscent of Hartline's 2011 tape, with only one difference being Hixon has better speed. All Hartline needed to produce more was more opportunities.

I think you misunderstood what part of his statement I was responding to.

edit: And I'm seeing it over and over. I was correcting and refuting the point of Brown being chosen over Wallace in a vacuum. It has nothing to do with his breakdown of Wallace's play.

Only if he'd be willing to stick to those roles, and publicly disavow any interest in being a QB in the NFL. I say publicly because the last thing we would need is a QB controversy if Tannehill hit a tough patch, and it would be a controversy unless Tebow backed Tannehill 100% and said he wasn't interested in being the QB.

Hence, "strictly at a TE/HB kind of role."

I think he'd be pretty successful as a RZ option too :couch:

well it better not be the duo of Hartline and Bess I have had enough of them and i want to see us get two playmakers . the thing is if we reign Fasano does that mean we wont draft a stud tightend in the draft ?

I keep thinking about Ireland's quote of needing "pressure up the middle" and wonder if Henry Melton might be in the equation.

I'm really not quite sure how you came to that conclusion, alen. He quoted me and posted that.

Physically, Tebow reminds me of James Casey. Not sure if he's that heavy though. So I guess Tebow could do the same things Casey does.
