What makes you say that? Typically, these types of contracts include a "fake" year or 2 or a year unlikely to be seen. What leads you to believe that this wouldn't be structured in the same fashion?
Keep in mind that Tanny is on a rookie contract for the next few years. So investing big money in other positions isn't as cost prohibitive as it usually would be with your QB spot being taken up by a relatively cheap contract. Take the Pats as an example. They have a lot invested in Tom Brady, and rightfully so. But that makes it harder to sign Welker or Vollmer (however you spell it). Assuming Tanny pans out, we won't be in that situation for a while.
I think thats an end around, cause he caught the ball then ran around the other end into the ENDzone!
Maybe, I hope not though....Can't believe there are ANY GMs in the league dumb enough to let a contract like that go through nowadays but you may be right.
Reggie looks like he is headed to the Lions or Cardinals and Cook appears to be headed to the Rams. Long is also coveted by the Rams. All this was reported on the NFL network in the last half hour.
Not sure if he is worth this contract, I do think its way too much, he just isn't a GREAT player but he will improve our offense and if we can make a playoff push its worth it. I guess..
I was a huge Long fan and thought it was the right pick at the time. However, I just think he is broken down already and it shows in his play. Bush can be easily replaced IMO. I wanted to keep Fasano… bummed that he is gone...
Here's his career numbers from advancednflstats:http://wp.advancednflstats.com/playerpage.php?playerid=17-M.Wallace&pos=WR&season=all He was pretty good his first three years. He had a down year last year, very down. I'm not sure to what extent that was because they changed their offense or defenses figured him out. Even if we get his first three years I'm not sure he's worth quite what we're paying him. But hopefully we have a plan and he can help Tanny.
The Steelers offensive line was garbage last year. Ben didn't have the time to hold onto the ball for 6-8 seconds allowing Wallace to get deep and wait for the coverage to break down.
It's as much horizontal as it is vertical. What sort of vertical route are the hooks and comebacks that he catches?
Charlie Batch was saying that if he takes a 5 step drop most receivers will be about 42 - 43 yards downfield , with Wallace he said he was 10 yards past that. That is something to exploit imo , and I am sure Miami feels they will.
They are poorly run, for one. He may catch them, but that doesn't mean he runs them with crispness the way Greg Jennings does. Apparently you are not understanding this aspect. You apparently think that if they just run to a spot and catch the football that it is a good route. The details matter. Running a 10 yard out at 13 yards is a bad route, no matter how much you try to make it sound like he can run that route.
He runs them well enough to get open and catch the ball. How do you know if he was running an out route at the wrong depth unless you know the exact play that was called?
Because you can tell where he starts his break what depth the pattern is supposed to be run at. His problem is that he can't make a sharp cut, and then after he rounds his route off, he isn't at the depth the route is supposed to be run at. But, you can continue to think that he is this great route runner that fits in well with a WCO style that relies on precise route running. The thing is, it isn't just me that sees this. Tell Greg Cosell and Bucky Brooks that they don't know what they are talking about when they discuss Wallace's route running, or did you miss this quote from an article I posted: Hey, but the details don't matter.
Ok, fair enough. Let me give you a different scenario as food for thought. Wallace, as far as I know/read/seen, is a stretch the field type of WR with poor->decent route running ability(ie some polish needed). Marquise Goodwin, for example, has just as much speed (likely more, but I am at a loss for Wallace's combine stats from that year) and similar (perhaps not as polished route running ability as Wallace) route running ability. I take Goodwin with my third round pick at 1/12-2/12 the salary of Wallace and also sign Levitre, who has not missed a game in four years, to start at OG and possibly still have money left over from that 12m per year to sign Ellerbe (fantastic signing imo btw) as well. So with that same 12m, I get a similar player to Wallace (Goodwin I foresee being picked in the 3rd round much like Wallace (who I liked coming out of Miss)), a starting OG who will help my QB, RB, and passing game, and possibly a starting ILB or a starting TE for the price of one guy (Wallace). This is what I mean by a cost-benefit analysis or value since there is a cap we have to worry about. I have only expressed my beliefs in this manner, because, I much like you and everyone else here (except the 2 or 3 Jets fans that perk up from time to time), want what is best for our Dolphins. Do I think Wallace is a bad player? Of course not, but I think we could have spent the money in a much better fashion. The move smells just as much like one of appeasing Ross, casual fans, and the press as it does a football move.
just saw on twitter, schefter says coaching staff wanted jennings, front office wanted wallace.... uhoh. KB looking smarter every second
