His base salary this year was $6.05M, not guaranteed. Cutting him means we can use that $6M towards someone's signing bonus.

I'm not really sure what your grounds would be for thinking that. Unless of course you're measuring by statlines instead of watching the player.

I do not believe that's why he got cut. It's because Ellerbe is cheaper, younger, and an upgrade. Had Dansby played up to his contract he'd have been kept regardless of the leadership council.

Dansby was a good player we played him out of position and he was hurt or out of shape most the time. Obviously being out of shape is 100% his fault and that with his mouth is most likely the reason hes gone. Ellerbe is not as good a player as Dansby at his peak but he for sure is younger and a smart direction to go..

Good move by Ireland. Dansby still produced but was always a step behind. We got younger and saved money. I like Dansby and hope him the best but don't see him getting another huge contract. Maybe the Ravens sign him???

Been dying to see this happen! With Spotrac's assistance, the math leads to $3.925m of cap room and a $4.65m dead money hit for next year.

I do not think he warranted the salary he was getting paid. We paid him to make splash plays, as he did in ARI (sacks, ints, ff), along with the tackles though this never occurred.

EDIT: My bad did not merge the post (mod fix please and my apologies).

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaloney. Karlos Dansby, AT BEST , was an average LBer. Did not like him with AZ and liked him even less when he was here. Goodbye Karlos, the free money is gone. Watch, nobody in this league is going to touch this guy for anything substantial unless they are really REALLY HARD UP for a LBer.

Karlos Dansby had one good half season in AZ, the year they made it to the Superbowl but that was it. The guys blows.

I was hoping to keep Dansby but in the same breathe he never once really made a difference here. His presence on the field was never truly felt and he didn't make big plays. Ellerbe and Wheeler are guys that make big plays. That don't have to coverage skills of Dansby but both Ellerbe and Wheeler are energetic hard hitting thugs that can really stifle an offense. I watched Ellerge lay Josh Cribbs completely out last year in a game. Wheeler is a knockout hitter as well and that was something we were lacking last season. Both do things that Dansby couldn't do that we desperately needed. Both are young...Both are athletic and fast. We have more speed on our defense now, youth, and health. Dansby was none of those things.

Well is El Jeffe taking a page from the Stillers except thru FA? Releasing older, costlier guys who may be on the brink of decline as opposed to keeping them until they die?
