Austin or Eifert, at least two corners, at least one safety, at least two offensive linemen, maybe one wr. The draft need list is becoming evident. Looks like Misi, Vernon, and Odrick are going to be used in different ways.
I think since we missed Cook and Bennett that I want Eifert in rd 1. Use him like the saints use Jimmy Graham.
I think if the Dolphins go with Martin at left tackle as is being said, then you don't draft a right tackle at 12. I am guessing Miami apparently is settled with defensive ends? I think that leaves a guy like Austin or Eifert as a weapon, or a cb. then definitely focused on te, ol, and cb in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP Well-placed mole tells me #Dolphins LB coach George Edwards was checking out #Gators LBs Jon Bostic and Jelani Jenkins today in Gainesville Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP And #Gators LB Jelani Jenkins has a pre-draft visit set up with the#Dolphins
Well I hope it's BPA at 12 but I really like Tavon Austin more than most do so I have my fingers crossed for him. I think he's going to be great. It would be nice to have a high powered octane offense with a ton of speed. Wallace and Austin would probably be the fastest duo in the league by a large margin I would imagine. I hope we draft him. If Patterson is there it's hard not to take him and if one of the big names fall like Jarvis Jones it would be hard not to consider that. For those wanting Eifert. Like it or not I think Mike Egnew and Charles Clay are in the plans more than one would think. We burned a third round pick on Egnew and he sat for an entire season. I've heard mixed reviews stemming from he sucks to "we feel really strong about him having a major impact next season". If it were me I would go BPA in the first round but that doesn't mean i'm NOT taking Tavon Austin with that pick. A big part of me wants us to just go "all in" on offense this draft with maybe a cornerback being thrown in the mix. RD 1 Tavon Austin RD 2 Best Corner available RD 3 Best O-Line available RD 3 Best TE available RD 4 Best RB available RD 5 O-Line and so on.
Ireland talked about wanting playmakers. He defined those as guys who score TDs, disrupt the passer and disrupt the pass. Wallace is clearly a TD scorer, Ellerbe and Wheeler are upgrades to our LB pass rush. I expect that the rest of FA will target TE (Keller?) and one or two of the dozen or so CBs. They may also add a RB. Depending on what happens there, I expect the draft targets at #12 are Werner, Jones, Austin, Vacarro, Eifert. And Bailey, Swope, Bernard, Carradine, Cyprien are high on the 2nd - 3rd round board.
You think Matthews is available? I can't imagine why they would even consider that so I'd say keep dreamin
If this happened, even many of the most dogmatic Ireland haters would bow down and worship him. Including me (not a big hater). No way this happens. Too good to be true. Would be great if we dropped a couple of slots, picked up an extra 4th/5th, selected Austin, then traded back into first with a 2nd, 3rd, 4th? then landed Eifert. Youth and uber talent on offense. But, we'd have to land an OT in free agency.
Con, this is only my guess based on CK's rumblings around the forum (and because I pegged him as a target of mine in the Free Agency thread, so I'll take some pride in it), but was your "target" Michael Johnson of the Bengals?
I love mixed women. Does your wife have any sisters you could hook me up with? I could take a little vacation and come over to Bermuda and sleep on your couch for a few months. Broaden my horizons.
Hits like a freight train, plays sideline to sideline with ease. Don't know about his cover ability. Haven't sen that much of him. First impression within a handful of plays- looks like a future star.
I'd love to know this as well. I had heard it was on defense and I assumed it was Johnson. Now Im guessing maybe that stupid source meant Ellerbe?
Con has never told me anything that led me to say that. I just want to make that clear. I guessed that it was Michael Johnson based on clues but it was only a guess.
Question for the gurus: Sherman didn't seem to create any mismatches in the slot, motions and such. Didn't spread bush wide at all. Would Austin be lost on us?
Pick 1: Desmond Trufant or Eifert Pick 2: Terrence Williams (love his game) Pick 2B: Kelce or Darius Slay Id be thrilled with those selections. If we can go Eifert-Williams-Slay (or Jamar Taylor) id be cool...
I hate your pick at 2.11 and I dont think Banks falls that far. If you swap out your 2.11 for Williams or Bailey at WR id be giddy. Also at 4.14 Id ratehr have DJ Swearinger. And somewhere in there Id like to take a shot with Marcus Lattimore and/or Ace Sanders
If Milliner is not there we are picking Xavier Rhodes. Edit: or Lane Johnson depending what happens with Long and Smith.
2.11 is too high for Bailey, and I can't see us taking a WR that high now anyways personally (unless it were Austin). And I already changed my mind since I wasn't sure whether to think Banks would fall far enough or not.
gotta put a safety up there in the first 3 rounds IMO. Clemons for a year serves as a stop gap to prepare the FS of the future. I could see Bacarri Rambo being the guy and let Koyle work his magic with another talented UGA kid.... or Cyprien or Phillip Thomas. There should be a DT in those first 5 picks, too, so we can reduce our cost at the position next year. Perhaps Sylvester Williams or Kawan Short as a Starks replacement...or the less talked about Jordan Hill from Penn St who possesses some interior pressure ability. **The thing to consider with the addition of Wheeler & Ellerbe (IE: the desire to bring more linebacker pressure) is that we might be looking for 2-gap capable DTs who can play head-up on linemen and free up the gaps for bringing pressure. Johnathan Hankins would be perfect in that regard b/c he's a beast but is also athletic enough to allow scheme versatility and can be moved around. Hankins would be an ideal fit IMO and an upgrade over Soliai. There's obviously going to be a corner with ball skills. Perhaps Jordan Poyer with 2b. Gotta have a pass rusher with talent & upside who can begin as a situational guy and STer. Cornellius Washington in perhaps the 3rd if we're lucky would be a coup IMO.
I could also see us drafting a QB late to throw on the PS to develop as the #3 of the future when/if Devlin eventually becomes the #2. Keep that ball rollin'.
.... and it'd be worth drafting a talented guard in the 3rd or 4th to replace Incognito in 2014 and get that positional cost down. Gotta make sure Tanny has time to toss some passes downfield to our new weapon. Brian Schwenke or Justin Pugh would be nice.
