Signing Pitta would cost us a 2nd round pick. I do believe we have an extra second round pick this year.

IMO it would be worth it for Pitta. I wouldn't do it if we only had 1 2nd round pick. The fact we have 2 gives us the flex to be able to make a move like this.

I don't like Keller as he is not the tall, seam-attacking TE everybody wants today. However, with the addition of Wallace, Keller can frequently run his best route -- curling/slanting into the flat vacated by the CB. Sanchez accuracy issues hampered Keller's numbers, but I think Tannehill can utilize Keller as a very effective possession receiver. And if the move the chains, then Keller can make a double move to open up deeper passes.

As for attacking the seam, Engew is being prep to do it as an inline TE and Clay has shown some ability from the FB position. In other words, Keller may be a good fit was his skills mesh nicely with other players.

I don't think it would assure anything on the O side with #12. It would tell me we need to go D and look at either Rhodes or Jarvis Jones (if he is still there). No need to draft a WR that high when we have so much invested in Wallace and Hartline. An eventual slot replacement for Bess can come in other rounds or we can pick up another outside WR then as well.

We have holes at CB that need to be fixed and still need an outside pass rusher to compliment Wake. Yes we picked up 2 blitzing LBers yesterday, but we still need that guy to take the pressure off Wake. If Jones is still there he needs to be the pick. If Jones gone then we need to select Rhodes.

I would love to see Eifert as the Dolphins pick at 12. Unfortunately I think the Dolphins will once again be using their first round selection on an offensive lineman.

Dennis Pitta for a 2nd round pick actually sounds kind of tempting.

IMO, you're not going to get a better pass catching TE in this Draft in the 2nd round. Nor will you get one with the remaining free agents unless you're willing to take a chance on Fred Davis.

Just curious. But why are you hesitant on Keller? Do you not believe he would be successful here?

I believe he's a great fit and would be highly successful

Trying to warm myself up to Dustin Keller. He's certainly better after the catch than Jared Cook. But I just don't think he's the seam threat people believe him to be. I get the argument that he had poor QB play and that's true but that can go both ways for a tight end in my experience. Poor QB play can often inflate a tight end's production because they're easy to find and throw to in the middle of the field.

I know we wontsign older guys But we should BRING BACK RANDY MCMICHAEL AND Wes Welker so we can stickit to the pats.

we cant put all our eggs in a tightend who wont be available when we pick in the draft.

why would i want THE RANDYMAN ? well he has a tremendous singing voice , he has a face that mothers and coaches could love, plus he once boxed jason Taylor's ears once upon a time . any man that is willing to put another knot on ole Twinkle toes bald *** head should be a dolphin for life .

I wouldn't give up a 2nd for Pitta and then give him a big new contract. There are several guys who will be available int he 2nd who I think are better prospects than Pitta was coming out. And I think he is more of an H-Back type than a complete TE and I think both Clay and Egnew can handle that role. They haven't been as productive yet, but Pitta was no more productive as a rookie than Egnew was. I view Keller in much the same way that I view Pitta.

I see Eifert as the clear cut best TE in the draft. His body control, route running and adjustments to the ball are excellent. And while he is still more receiver than blocker, I see him as developing into a complete TE. I could live with him at 12, although I really want Tavon Austin and think we may need to take him there if we want him.

I don't know but my nitpicks with Dustin Keller aside, if the Dolphins were to give Keller significantly less than that then I'll say it right now Miami dodged a bullet.

Hey Deej. As I'm starting to see the vision for this offense take shape, I've been considering your posts about Eifert.

I'm trying to justify to myself how he would be worth the 12 and what's holding me back is not a lack of positives. I agree with you on those. But the feeling that I don;t understand his downside well enough.

So I wanted to ask you, his biggest proponent, what, if any, are the weak spots in his game. Because depending on what those are, compared to the unbelievable athleticism, length and catch radius he brings, it may be worth considering him at 12. Maybe.

What a waste that would be when you can get Kelce with that 2nd at a much cheaper contract than you'll end up paying Pitta, and Kelce has more upside, imo.

But what Keller does well is make the contested catch, find the soft spots underneath the coverage, and come up big on bog plays like 3rd down.

He was a great 'spot' by you. I got onto him from E-W Shrine practice reports, but you saw him live, I take it.

He was such a value pick in that draft.

I agree. No giving up picks to sign a RFA. Pitta likely signs his tender anyway, and next year be a UFA. Just be patient.

One of the criticism's I have seen is that he doesn't have much of a run after the catch game. I'm trying to decide if I think that's a legit criticism. It is true that you don't see him gaining much after the catch, but it is also true that he seemed to always be contorting himself to catch poorly thrown balls for which there weren't great YAC opportunities. Physically, there is nothing about him that would suggest he shouldn't be a good run after catch guy, but some guys just aren't, for whatever reason.

I don't know bro, I watched all his reps in 2012, and I saw a big but kind of weak, decent tight end..could not understand why folks were so adamant in getting him, but I sure am glad he's not with us..

Screw Keller and the other FAs...Nab Ertz or Eifert in the 2R or Escobar, etc. further down in the draft.

Armando Salguero ‏@ArmandoSalguero TE Dustin Keller Is now getting a physical and if all checks out afterwords the club and his agent will talk terms.

I can see this happening...Whether we see it or not, I think they want to really see what Egnew can do or at least if he can be better than last year...having Keller allows them to keep Clay and Egnew...

If I'm being honest Bk, I sincerely don't see weaknesses that are even worth noting..he can do it all, his body has room to grow, and he's a smart player,so theres upside in both facets, there is nothing about his game that puts reservation in my mind..I've watched every game, every snap, high school, college, basketball clips, I've studied his body control, genetics, and catch radius, I've combined that specific athleticism of movement relative to his position and combined it with his measurables, the speed at that size, the wingspan, the vertical, it's all beautiful upside.

Your basically looking at a new age type athlete, a complete one, he's a very large receiver because that's how he moves, but he has the size, frame and strength to play in line as well at his position in a traditional sense...

..Im not sure there are three tight ends n the NFL considering all variables, that I would take over him, and he hasn't played a down yet..

This dude will be your redzone threat, your seam threat, has great football awareness to find soft spots in the short to intermediate areas, and knows how to block people out to give his Qb the target..

Another reason why his skillset is perfect for us is because I believe our Qb has a strength, and that is throwing down the seam, with deft touch and accuracy..

There just isn't any place that you can't line him up at, and with Wallace taking the top off, you have space, space where this kid could simply dominate, Tannehill needs a best friend, you can finish the cliche..

Lol. I usually read and cross-reference as many different accounts as possible and look for players who are talked about positively by many different sources.

Also, Pitta's traits stood out to me.

Then your reports here sealed the deal for me. I think that was the same year I like the running back Dixon. Was it Andre?
